Vinny Vanucchi’s group dinners are reminiscent of our large Italian family get togethers--where everyone gathered around the table for a glass of vino, great conversation, and no one went away hungry.
Just choose from one of 6 menu plan options, pick your entrees, and leave the rest to us. We'll cook up Italian favorites and serve your meal family-style on large platters meant for you and your guests to share and pass around the table.
All entrees are served with baskets of Vinny's piping hot garlic bread; bowls of salad tossed in our sweet Vinny's Italian Vinaigrette House Dressing; and dishes of penne pasta with our homemade marinara sauce. Complete your Italian feast with appetizer and dessert selections available individually or as combination platters.
My wife and I have enjoyed Vinnys in Galena for many years. This was our first visit to Vinnys in Dubuque. While we enjoyed our meal, we both thought that the Galena restaurant is much better. Our server was not very attentive to checking if we needed anything, and was very slow to provide such items as drinks, etc. The food was OK, but appeared that it had been prepared in advance and then heated up just prior to serving. The cheese on the Chicken Parm was not completed melted. We will most likely make the extra drive from our Iowas home to Galena the next time we visit Vinnys.
I am from out of town but travel to Dubuque often. I have long wanted to go here for dinner. We arrived for a very early dinner so the restaurant was almost empty. It was a special occasion and I asked for one of their best tables. They put us upstairs at a table backed into a private cage with a table in it. We had no room to move and were backed into a curtain that blocked the light so my mother-in-law couldn't read her menu. Were were also put next to a family with 3 small kids who were screaming and running all around the upstairs. With the place empty and a request for their best table, I cant beleive we were put there. The food was fair and not worth the high price. The service was not good. We ran out of water more than once and waited forever for the waitress to even check on us. I will not go back.
Excellent food, cool setting and great service by Jodi!
Let me say this, It ain't no Olive Garden, this place is like being in the old country. Hands down the best lasagna I have since forever. A huge piece of Italian sausage, like a meatloaf on one layer and loads of Mozzarella. The sauce, "Forgeta Bout it". The salad and garlic bread really topped it off. Our Server was very tolerant and spot on with everything, thanks Tony (Tone, Toni, Tony). I will definitely be back next time I am in town.
Four different dishes; all good. We had a very enjoyable evening.
Very disappointing! Haven’t tried this location before and won’t go back. Salads appeared prior to the appetizers we ordered with our beverages. Not sure if we would have gotten them if I didn’t point that out.
Veal Milanese was over cooked and arrived with a salad topping, I did check the menu to be sure I didn’t miss that in the description, I didn’t.
Lasagna was very dry, the ricotta was crumbly rather than creamy.
The Sausage Ragu was also poor, sausage was not flavorful.
Only entree item that was well received was Uncle Paulie’s Pasta.
The garlic bread was also tasty. Decided to forgo dessert to avoid being further disappointed.
Stopped going to the Galena location for similar reasons, no reason to give this location a second chance.
Tiramisu was delicious. Dinner was Olive Garden for 3x the price.
Perfect in every way!!!
Really enjoyed the food. Hard to decide what to have from the great menu choices. It was withing walking distance to Five Flags where we went to a concert....no need to find a new parking spot. Can't wait to come back; even the leftovers were wonderful.
My wife and I love going to Vinny Vanucchi's. The food is always excellent and the service is the same. It is about 65 miles from our home so when we plan on going to Dubuque we usually make plans to have dinner here.
Had a new waitress...stayed patient.
There is nothing special about going here. When in DuBuque you can do better.
We had a wonderful dining experience. Our server Riley was professional, attentive and catered to all of our needs. She had a great attitude and really did a smashing job!!! Thank you for a wonderful night. !
We went for Valentine's Day and it was wonderful, our Waitress was so nice and the food was great!
We read reviews and thought this would be a nice place for dinner with family from out of state. We were very disappointed. There were 7 of us and the only person who thought their meal was above average had a cheeseburger. The two that shared a pizza said it was flavorless and undercooked. The pasta dishes were ok but nothing special.
The baked seafood was outstanding! Jam packed with shrimp, scallops and real crabmeat yet there were still bites that were nothing but gooey cheese.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere!! Friendly and very efficient wait staff. Entrees came out hot and delicious
Overall Vinnys was pretty good but not great. Bruschetta was very good. Salad and garlic bread were also very good. Wife had the spaghetti and meatballs and really liked it. I tried a bite and it was pretty typical Italian resturant spaghetti so not too bad although my Noni's sauce will never be beat. The only problem I had was the Alfredo Chicken Fettuccine. Very bland sauce. Didnt taste like any cheese was in it just a white cream sauce. No seasoning on the chicken either which didnt help. I threw on the parmeasean and butter from the garlic bread basket and it was so much better for thosr two bites so that probably tells you all you need to know. Very cool building and ambience was pretty good. I'd go back but try something else.
I enjoy eating here. The service could have been just a little better (waitress was nice she just forgot to bring us more bread and they weren't that busy). The food was good but not out of this world. Great atmosphere.
A year ago was wonderful ...the last time was so so bad...bland food...cold food...warm salad...food bread though...server was great but the good was terrible . Disappointing for a much needed break from kids weekend.
Everything was great. However, I did NOT get what I ordered. I got some shrimp or scallops with Alfredo which I notified our waitress and immediately corrected it. Our waitress was awesome . And would recommend her to anyone!!!
Stuffed mushrooms were the best. Seafood bake was good although not very warm.
We went there for my wife's birthday with our son. The atmosphere and decor are fabulous! My wife's and sons pasta was delicious, however, my pizza left something to be desired. Should've gotten the pasta.
Family visiting from the East coast was the occasion. They are foodies who love to experience local food and enjoy the ambiance of the Italian dining in downtown area. We all tried different dishes, enjoyed the camaraderie, and lingered long after. The service was great too. Thanks Vinny!
Great food and atmosphere. This is a wonderful place to have a relaxing dinner.
Very accommodating as our group was two more than expected. Food was very good. Parking however (this was a Friday night) was very bad.
We were in Dubuque for a weekend getaway and found ourselves here because of the gluten free options. Food was plentiful and delicious, the decor cute and the service excellent.
My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. It had a nice romantic atmosphere and the service was really good. Our waitress was very helpful in helping us pick wines. I would definitely come back for another date or another anniversary.
Portions are gigantic - WAY too much food. Would be nice if 1/2 portions of pasta was an option. Very wasteful as we were traveling and couldn’t bring leftovers home.
Driving through Dubuque on a trip. It was lunchtime so we looked on internet for reviews. This place was said to be good. I was surprised when we arrived with a reservation on a Sat at noon that the place had 3 tables filled. No ambiance. Hostess was short and abrupt and the waiter was oddly prepared to wait on us. He tried to explain the lunch special which we had seen at the door and was stammering around so much that we gave up and just questioned how much it was. He said at first 12.95 then changed his mind to 10.95. My husband just said ok and ordered it. I had the ravioli and my son had the meatball sandwich.
My initial disappointment was the waiter. He was terrible. Perhaps new? So I decided to just stop being annoyed. We got our lunch. My meat ravioli did not seem tender, but edible. What was the point of trying to complain to a waiter who was already unhelpful and unknowlegable. My sons meatball sandwich looked good and he said he was good. My husbands special was a seafood linguine and he said it was ok.
Then comes the bill. So the lunch special was billed at $15.95, it was neither of the prices quoted prior and it was not posted on the special board when we arrived so we were taking the waiters word for it. I brought it to his attention and he went and spoke to a manager, he came back and said he was sorry but that was the price. So instead of the manager taking $5 off for her employees mistake we had to pay it. The comment from the waiter was "I guess you learn something everyday", well I have learned not to stop here for food again when driving through Dubuque. What I did was instead of leaving a $8 tip on the bill I left a $3 tip.
Portions were too large. Shrimp pasta dish sauce was too thick; veal Marsala sauce was too sweet, veal was under cooked and not tender.
Quaint but so overpriced. $22 for pasta is ridiculous.
Won't be back.
Awesome food. Great atmosphere.
Our selections were very good. The garlic bread was excellent, according to my friends. I had the gluten free pasta in a marinara sauce. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Salad prior to meal came with gluten free dressing. My companions thought their spaghetti entess we're delicious. The 4 stars on service was due to having to ask for a sugar substitute three times before receiving it and one of us asked for a water refill and never received it. It was not busy when we were there. Overall it is a great place for lunch or dinner.
It’s a must to to for special occasions. The only thing better then the food, which was Fantastic, was the service
Loved everything about this place. Great space...very large. Several sections and bars. We ate outside overlooking the river. (That section was still closed, but they very kindly set it up for us. And the waiter was very nice even though he had to run in and out. Thanks guys!) Everything we ordered was terrific. Pasta, pizzas, calamari, salad. My family is Italian, and I can be picky. Very authentic here. Nice beer selection. Good looking interior. Highly recommend.
Loved the atmosphere.
Food was good except didn't care for stuffed mushrooms. Very bready but lots of good cheese on top. I only ate half of one but husband ate the rest. Seafood pasta had a lot of sauce but we generally eat lighter so not used to that. Flavor good but scallops tiny. We would come back for the wine and ambience
