About Vinny Vanucchi's 'Little Italy' - Dubuque

The new Vinny Vanucchi’s ‘Little Italy’ location in Dubuque, Iowa, embodies every thing loved about our original Vinny’s location in Galena, Illinois. Serving the same Italian favorites including Nana Lu’s Meat Lasagna, Auntie Gracie's Sausage Ragu, and Dee Dee's Tortellini Carbonara, meals are complete with piping hot Garlic Bread, and Salad tossed with Vinny’s Italian House Vinaigrette Dressing.

From eclectic artifacts and family portraits to rich wood floors and checkered tablecloths, we’ll transport you and your family to the Old Country. The moment you step into Vinny’s Dubuque, you'll swear Nana Lu is hard at work in our kitchen. You'll smell the slow-cooking marinara sauce and feel like part of the familia.

Very accommodating as our group was two more than expected. Food was very good. Parking however (this was a Friday night) was very bad.

We were in Dubuque for a weekend getaway and found ourselves here because of the gluten free options. Food was plentiful and delicious, the decor cute and the service excellent.

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. It had a nice romantic atmosphere and the service was really good. Our waitress was very helpful in helping us pick wines. I would definitely come back for another date or another anniversary.

Portions are gigantic - WAY too much food. Would be nice if 1/2 portions of pasta was an option. Very wasteful as we were traveling and couldn’t bring leftovers home.

Driving through Dubuque on a trip. It was lunchtime so we looked on internet for reviews. This place was said to be good. I was surprised when we arrived with a reservation on a Sat at noon that the place had 3 tables filled. No ambiance. Hostess was short and abrupt and the waiter was oddly prepared to wait on us. He tried to explain the lunch special which we had seen at the door and was stammering around so much that we gave up and just questioned how much it was. He said at first 12.95 then changed his mind to 10.95. My husband just said ok and ordered it. I had the ravioli and my son had the meatball sandwich.

My initial disappointment was the waiter. He was terrible. Perhaps new? So I decided to just stop being annoyed. We got our lunch. My meat ravioli did not seem tender, but edible. What was the point of trying to complain to a waiter who was already unhelpful and unknowlegable. My sons meatball sandwich looked good and he said he was good. My husbands special was a seafood linguine and he said it was ok.

Then comes the bill. So the lunch special was billed at $15.95, it was neither of the prices quoted prior and it was not posted on the special board when we arrived so we were taking the waiters word for it. I brought it to his attention and he went and spoke to a manager, he came back and said he was sorry but that was the price. So instead of the manager taking $5 off for her employees mistake we had to pay it. The comment from the waiter was "I guess you learn something everyday", well I have learned not to stop here for food again when driving through Dubuque. What I did was instead of leaving a $8 tip on the bill I left a $3 tip.

Portions were too large. Shrimp pasta dish sauce was too thick; veal Marsala sauce was too sweet, veal was under cooked and not tender.

Our selections were very good. The garlic bread was excellent, according to my friends. I had the gluten free pasta in a marinara sauce. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Salad prior to meal came with gluten free dressing. My companions thought their spaghetti entess we're delicious. The 4 stars on service was due to having to ask for a sugar substitute three times before receiving it and one of us asked for a water refill and never received it. It was not busy when we were there. Overall it is a great place for lunch or dinner.

Loved the atmosphere.
Food was good except didn't care for stuffed mushrooms. Very bready but lots of good cheese on top. I only ate half of one but husband ate the rest. Seafood pasta had a lot of sauce but we generally eat lighter so not used to that. Flavor good but scallops tiny. We would come back for the wine and ambience

The pizza was pretty tasty, and my husband enjoyed the meatball appetizer. Their wine list was a bit mediocre, and my husband had to ask, if they served any beer, and we just got a verbal beer list instead of their being any listed in a menu to review prior to ordering. The service was good. It was an ok place, but I'm not sure that we would go there again next time we are going to be in Dubuque.

We were at the Mississippi River Aquarium with our kids ages 9-18, and the staff there recommended Vinny Vanucchi's for lunch. We all enjoyed the "Little Italy" ambiance, and the food was very good. There is a main seating area and a bar, well separated from each other, so very kid-friendly. Close to museum, so were able to stop for lunch and go right back to the exhibits. Friendly staff.

we were traveling through Dubuque and Vinnys had a good review on Trip Advosor and Open Table. It was not very crowded and we got seated promptly. The garlic toast was some of the best I have had at a restaurant and the bowls of pasta my wife and I ordered were terrific...great sauces and the pasta was cooked just right...fast service too and good salads to start. Was a great choice for us...good location near our motel too.

Great Lunch .... small side salad and then my husband and I shared a pizza. Delicious. We really enjoyed the pizza (cheese and sausage), the sausage has a great flavor and kick to it (not overpowering, just not bland). Jordan was our server and she was excellent.

First time visit. I usually go to V V in Galena. Same menu (many good choices)similar decor (Italian photos) that I believe are family. Lots of different seating areas for privacy and groups. Service was great and on time. Definitely on my favorites list

Portions way too large; weak wine list by the glass - suggest a couple of premium wines in a wine safe dispenser system. Less cheese more flavorful sauce.

The bread and salad were soooo good! You could make a meal out of just that. But I did try other things. We actually ate here 2 nights in a row. The first night I had baked penne. I split it with my son as the portions are fairly large. Mom had eggplant parmigiana which she said was delicious. 2nd night I had pizza and mom had ravioli, both were delicious! Try their sangria too!

We have often visited Vinnis. It's a good restaurant for a quiet dinner. It's also good for when friends are visiting. It's sometimes difficult to get into without a reservation, thus my use of a reservation service. Dinner was good. The service was great. Portions are adequate.

Have had the veal parm every time and it has always been amazing! The lasagna and meat ravioli are favs of my husband. Any time we pass back through we will certainly stop in again!!

I was with my significant other. When we arrived, we were greeted promptly. The atmosphere is traditional American Italian and quaint. It was lunchtime on a Saturday. A young male waiter came to our table to wait on us. He said that our drinks would be out in a few minutes, well, this poor waiter was so slow and disorganized. People who came in after we had arrived got their drinks, bread, salads and entrees well before we did. There was a waitress there who was extremely efficient and was waiting on the other customers, again, we had the young male waiter. The food was very good. The price was good. I would recommend it, but if you see that there are only 2 wait staff, one young male and one middle aged female, ask for the woman to be your waitress. She was extremely efficient and it only made me jealous when I saw her getting her customers' food and drink out before ours. However, the waiter was very kind and apologetic but could not get our food out as quickly as the other customers. He just could not deliver. Hopefully, he will get more experience and be just as efficient as his co-worker.

Very nice menu with a great variety of choices to please our group. Steaks were excellent and prepared the way requested. Food was hot when served, salad produce was fresh, bread was very nice. Wine and cocktails were good. Loved the atmosphere. Service staff were prompt, attentive and pleasant. Only a slight problem experienced as our table was set in front of a wine cabinet which the staff had to access fairly frequently, so there were interruptions to our group's conversation by the apologetic servers who had to reach in over our shoulders. Would like to make a return trip and would recommend this establishment to others.
