Vinny Vanucchi's 'Little Italy' - Dubuque
I just love this restaurant. Although the service was slow due to a large crowd, the food and atmosphere was great. This is my favorite place to eat every time I visit Dubuque.
The calamari was excellent and loved the salad and bread. The seafood fettucine had a bit to be desired. Noodles seemed a bit mushy. The shrimp and scallops were good that were it it, but the crab meat made the dish seem grainy. My husbands dish was okay, the peppers were giant, he thought they could be cut up a bit smaller.
The only problem is we were seating in the back of the restaurant. When an order was ready, the kitchen YELLED food is was ready or something else. It was loud and disturbing when you are trying to have a meal with family. Can some tell them it's 2019 and not New York City.
We love authentic Italian food and the food and atmosphere were great. We will stop there again when in Dubuque.
Fantasic food!! Fantastic service! LOVE it, will go back again! :)
our waiter was great, my meal came out cold and he fixed the issue right away.
Great environment. Servers seemed to be a bit over committed. Was able to accomodate our party with a wheelchair. Food was good not great. Spicy alfredo was way too spicy, more like an Indian curry. appetizers were really good.
We have always enjoyed dinner at Vinny's in Dubuque. We also very much appreciate the gluten-free options. Entrees are consistently good, hearty and generous, and ambiance is great (and not too bright).
Good service with good food
One of the members in our group said his steak was tough, overcooked and not hot.
Service was fast and friendly. Italian beef sandwich was very good. Wish they had more than two choices for salad dressing.
Fantastic Delicious. Our server was wonderful, pleasant, terrific.
Food was lukewarm. Sever seemed like he might have been new. Brought salad with no plates or silverware.
Was looking for a nice place to take a friend. I was more then satisfied with the experience! Food was delicious, the wait staff was friendly and made us feel important! I don’t normally travel to Dubuque bit will definitely come back for another visit to Vinnys!
Very nice waitress! Excellent food. Nice atmosphere
Service was very good (Ryan): Prices reasonable. Food mixed. Veal Milanese heavy on breading and overdone. I never realized sandwiching salad between a pasta base and breaded veal translated into “Milanese.”
There is so much to comment on...
1. Bartender provided good service and conversation at the bar. Drinks were good.
2. Upon being seated, we ordered an appetizer, it was delivered as expected and was delicious. Salad was as expected. Bread was good but it wasn’t hot.
3. We waited a long time for our entrees. Too long.
4. Waiter was very nice. Apologized profusely about the delay in the kitchen due to being understaffed.
5. Food finally came and it was awful. My entree was inedible. My husband’s entree was over cooked.
6. Lots of staff around, but no one offered to help out. Our waiter had multiple full tables. He worked hard to keep up.
Overall, disappointed. Definitely will choose other options in the future.
Service was good but the food delivery took almost an hour and then one of the entrees was wrong which meant my wife had to sit and watch everyone else eat and then eat 1/2 of her dinner in a hurry.
Vinny's did not have several beverage items listed on the menu; we ordered drinks only for the server to return several minutes later telling us they were out. Vinny's did not have several core Italian dishes that are listed on nearly every other Italian Restaurant menu such as caprese salad, pasta fagioli, minestrone soup and tiramisu; our server said she had never even heard of caprese salad. Service was very poor; the green salad and bread were brought to us when we were nearly done at the end of our meal, we asked for napkins and silverware but our server never brought them to us so we had to ask another server where we could get them. Absolutely the worse Italian restaurant & worse restaurant overall that we've ever been to, and certainly will never return.
Iit is aleys very good
Love the Vinny's in Galena, but since we were staying in Dubuque, we decided to try the one there. Hubby had the Shrimp Milanese...shrimp were a little over-cooked, but still good. I had the Fettuccine Carbonara...pasta was a little over-cooked to my liking...and since it was so hot, it continued to cook while I ate. However, it was still quite tasty. The Bruschetta we ordered as an appetizer was FANTASTIC! With the salad and garlic bread (which were also fantastic - just like in Galena) we probably didn't need the appetizer, but we really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend and visit again...just wish the kitchen were a little better - to be at the same level as the service & atmosphere.
Was there many years ago and wouldn’t go back based on service and the food that day. That was a table of 2 and unimpressed.
Went this week with a group of 10 aunts and brothers and sisters.
Night and day. Great food for everyone and service exceptional.
Wish I had the main server name as would have him as a server anyway.
We loved it- very welcoming atmosphere, delicious food at a great value. We were on vacation in Dubuque for 3 days, and this was our favorite restaurant. We loved it so much, we considered going back a second time in our short stay.
Made a reservation for a table for 3 at 6:30. We arrived on time and were immediately seated. However, the table given to us was a "hightop" in the bar area. Although no one was sitting at the bar, I would have preferred a sit-down table vs a hightop.
Great food great staff. Always worth it!
Enjoyed our evening at Vinny's prior to a performance at The Grand Opera in Dubuque. Many choices for each of the four people in our party. Personally, I like the soup, salad, and garlic bread or one of the sandwiches without the bread (so I can just have garlic bread) - more than enough for a modest size meal. We had one person who had a 12" thin crust pizza - which was really a 15" pizza - again, more than one person could eat. Wait staff were fun and we enjoyed her sense of humor! Will go again.
We were in from out out town for 1 night. Vinny Vanucchi's was recommended to us. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.
There was a foul smell from the moment we walked into the restaurant.
The food was delicious and it was easy to make our reservations for a table online as we drove from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque.
Great food and excellent service, my wife and I enjoyed the food and wine
Unfortunately our experience was not good, however, there were many people there and I’m sure their experience was better than ours. We wanted pizza but the pizza oven was broke. My husband doesn’t like pasta, so had limited selections for him. We should have politely said we’d be back another day because of no pizza. My seafood fettuccine was ok but seemed the shrimp was under cooked. This chain is well known for great food. Guess we picked the wrong day.
Waitress wasn’t really personable. Seemed as if she was too rushed to wait on us. It wasn’t even that busy! Food was mediocre for what we paid for it.
Great food and service! Just good home cooked Italian meal :)
My review as left on TripAdvisor: The food was great and if I hadn't eaten both of the very good-sized portions of garlic bread, I might have been able to each more of Auntie Gracie's Sausage Ragu (but I have the left-overs for another night!). Hubby ate every lick of his Fettuccine Seafood. However, slight damper was that when asked about a cocktail, I declined, but hubby ordered a "Red Label on the rocks". The waitress came back and said they didn't have that kind of scotch but said to check the drinks menu on the table for the kind they did have. Looked at the menu - lots of wines and several types of drinks described but there was no listing of the scotch they carried. So he went with iced tea. A little later, I realized from where I was sitting, I could look up and see the bar in the other room. And on the bar back, I could see the Johnny Walker Red Label and the Black Label bottles...so apparently she didn't bother to ask if she didn't understand what a "red label on the rocks" was AND had never reviewed the drinks menu. Not acceptable.
Given the generally good reviews of this place I had expectations of a pleasant meal. Place was fine, no wait on a Saturday night, menu was decent but waiter was a mumbler and it felt like he was reading lines aloud vs talking to us.
Garlic bread came out first and was room temp. I asked the waiter if this was normal and he said he must have grabbed the wrong one. Came out warm (not hot) about 5 mins later and was only so-so, way too smothered in parmesan for our tastes.
She had the chicken milanese and it met expectations. I had the pasta in garlic aioli which was supposed to have some spice to it but there was absolutely none, as in they did not put anything discernible in there. I got some pepper flakes as a stop gap but overall it was a bit disappointing when they don't even follow their own menu as far as ingredients go.
Prices were O.K. Perhaps we are spoiled with good italian restaurants in the Twin Cities and just expected too much from Dubuque but really, all of these issues were brought upon themselves. There is nothing inherently hard about serving warm bread or having personable staff.
Would not go again and could not recommend.
Very nice restaurant and the staff was very attentive! My husband & I were on a date weekend and it was a nice getaway!
Authentic Italian food. Garlic bread always phenomenal!!!. Love Chicken parmesan with spaghetti. Yummy.
Music keeps the Italy theme going live that.
We have been to this restaurant many times and have always been very pleased with the service, food, and atmosphere!
Service was poor... water filled once, said watery and forgot the marinara
A great place for a delicious meal. It was prom night, so a little busier and noisier than we prefer. We did enjoy seeing the students and their dresses and tuxedos. We will visit again soon.
