Vinnie's Steakhouse and Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We have been going to Vinnie's since it opened many years ago. It really is consistently one of the best steakhouses in Raleigh though its menu over time has expanded to many non-steak entrees. We like its atmosphere, the attentiveness of the wait staff, and the consistency of the quality of the food. In this area, there is always a tendency to compare steak restaurants to the Angus Barn. Vinnie's holds it own with the Barn quite well. In many ways it is better because of its size and because you don't feel like you are an assembly line. We remember the late original owners Rose and Dusty Anderson very fondly. The current owners have done a good job in continuing what they started.
Did not care for the waiter. He had to ask us what drinks we ordered again.Food was not hot, myvegtables were cold. Had to ask him for more rolls. Made a face when one of us asked to bring a vegetable home.Since there was six in are group he automatically got a 20% tip that he did not deserve.
Vinnie's never disappoints. Old school steakhouse with its dark wood paneling, low light, regulars abound, everyone knows everyone and treats newcomers and regulars like family. The steaks are bar none... no better steak exists in Raleigh... the quality and execution far exceeds that of the popular Angus Barn. Service is always impeccable and attentative. Vinnie's has been a regular haunt for my family since 1990 and will continue for many years to come.
Vinnie's is a primarily a very good steakhouse with locally sourced seafood per season and availability. Wait staff is attentive without being intrusive. We began with oysters in the half-shell (from Pamlico Sound in NC) and our party had steaks with one opting for crab-cakes. We had desserts ranging from creme brulee` to key lime pie...all were excellent.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary so decided to go to Vinnie's for a lovely dinner. This is a restaurant where you dine, not just eat.
The server took time to get our orders to perfection. I wish I had noted his name as he was a bonus to our experience! All of the staff was friendly and courteous. We were seated in a room to the side of the main dining room which was fine with us as it felt quieter and a bit more private.
Our salads were fresh , nicely prepared and a generous size. Both of us had filet mignon. The menu offers three sizes so it is easy to customize to your appetite. I asked for medium and it was done to medium perfection. My husband, who is very fussy about the doneness of his steak, was also pleased. The filets were flavorful without being overly seasoned. You are given an impressive steak knife but a butter knife would suffice, the meat is so tender.
The sides are generous enough to share. We chose an au gratin potato and sautéed broccoli. Nothing super inventive about either side but done nicely.
We shared a dessert special, carrot cake with cream cheese and bacon frosting. The cake had a light, spongy texture. The frosting was smooth, creamy and yummy! Definitely worth the calorie splurge!
Vinnie's is our destination of choice for a special evening for two special friends. This has become a regular event now for several years and we are always pleased. The restaurant is relatively small so there is a certain intimate atmosphere. The bartender always remembers our drinks from visit to visit and is super friendly. The waiter was new but was exceptionally helpful and attentive. And finally the food was excellent. The featured seafood was sea bass and it was very good. Desserts are sinfully good. All in all, it is where we choose to spend a special evening every chance we get. We'll be heading back again very soon.
As always Vinnies is all around fantastic. I can never say enough about how Good the food is. Our waiter was great but new. The only thing about our waiter is he didn't tell us about the specials which didn't matter because I was getting steak no matter what
Disappointed this time. My filet was very dry, the house salad came with onions mixed into the greens which were very strong and not appropriate for a salad.
The butter and sour cream came surrounded by bacon and scallions which made it impossible to just have butter and sour cream. Tried to scrape of bacon and onions, which didn't work at all, so asked for aserving of only butter, etc.
Do not remember the salad and condiments as being a problem last time. Also, the previous steak was very good. That was the reason we chose to go back to Vinnies to celebrate our 49th anniversary.
Also did not appreciate our waiter upselling us on our liquor choice and portion size of my husband's steak.
We will not return.
Once again, Vinnie's does not disappoint. From the cocktails to the appetizers to dinner to dessert. Start to finish was simply enjoyable and a perfect atmosphere and ambiance for enjoying wonderful food and conversation. This was a dinner for two, but I've had a meal here with a large party (10-12) and it was excellent then too. Love this local Steakhouse - the best in Raleigh. Consistent and delicious.
Vinnie's is always our neighborhood favorite restaurant when we want to celebrate! The service, cocktails, wine list, and creative dishes, often made with local produce, are excellent. I love the seasonal specials. Our smoked tuna salad which we shared as an appetizer was absolutely delicious. My ahi tuna was perfectly not cooked, just as I like it. My husband's fresh fish from Local's seafood market was equally delectable. I know Vinnie's has always been well known for its steaks, but the seafood and desserts are just as perfect. We are so lucky to have this fine restaurant in North Raleigh.
We have enjoyed Vinnie's since 1996. We go there for special occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays and special treats. The welcome, food, staff, and service is as good as it gets. On this occasion, my wife's birthday, Cat provided exceptionally professional, friendly, and courteous service. We will continue to enjoy Vinnie's in the future.
