Another great night at Vine Street Café. It requires a ferry ride to get to, but it's worth the trip. We see it as a great place for a special dinner. Our service happened to be slow on this night, due to the season and crowd. We didn't mind as we always see it as a no rush place, but it would be annoying to some people. Our food was excellent, with the exception of a beef entre being cool/cold to the touch. This was corrected immediately with the interior temp as desired. This takes away from a higher rating, but we'll be back.
As usual, food was very good and service was fine. Also, as usual meal tab is pretty high for what you get. It's a shame, this is a good restaurant and on a Sunday evening in March could have a lot more people in it, but the price inhibits people from going there very often. Of course, when the summer crowd arrives they can pretty much charge what they like.
The food here is always amazing and the service always friendly. Can’t go wrong with any dish on the menu. But definitely you must have the sticky toffee cake for dessert.
I have heard such good things about Vine Street Cafe but I felt the food did not live up to they hype or the prices. I had the pork/bacon dish and it was on the tasteless side. Sorry, wanted to love it.
One of the best places on Shelter Island for a good meal. Not quite a “foodie” spot - but definitely serving high quality takes on mostly classic dishes.
Awesome meal as always!
Very good food and nice ambiance, but pricey for what it was. Wine pour was barely a third of the glass for $15. :-(.
Delicious food, great wine selection, friendly, attentive wait staff, comfortable, relaxed setting. In a word -- perfect.
Vine Street is a wonderful and reliable neighborhood place with a warm, welcoming, country ambiance, gracious help and excellent food. My husband and I are year round regulars. Highly recommend!!!
Always a treat - the Prix Fix is excellent and a great value. Food is amazing. Different flavors, especially love the calamari salad! The mussels were excellent in both broths. Love this hidden gem!
Very nice decor and atmosphere but the kitchen is lacking very pretentious wanting to be high end restaurant without the execution, service is nice and courteous.
We had a simple dinner (one entree each and a shared dessert). The food was good but not exceptional. The service was very good, prompt and friendly.
Our ABSOLUT Favorite Spot in ALL the Hamptons 👍... 6 Stars ⭐️!!
This place is always nothing short of perfect -- the ambience, the staff, the service, and that's before we even begin to talk about the amazing food and cocktails.
We've been there often. The food is good, though a bit expensive. It was not as crowded this weekend as it is in summer.
Food is very good but the service lack the standard that I would expect for the price point.
Prix fixe is a nice value, if you get there early (before 6:00). The restaurant was full by 8:00 p.m., even in mid November. Likely a tough place to get a table in season. I did not see or taste anything to support the few negative reviews.
It was a wonderful dinner. The food was delicious and the service excellent with such attention to detail
Good food and phenomenal and attentive staff. I would recommend for small groups or a couple's dinner.
A good meal, but pricey. Vine Street delivers in terms of service and dependability. But does every entree in the Hamptons have to be $30. and up?
Party of 4. Service was eh. Asked for a side of ice with my mimosa, never got it. Had to ask for butter twice. I ordered the smoked tuna sesame. It was not smoked and had little flavor. The others did enjoy their apps. I ordered the special, lobster pot pie. The lobster and seafood filling was delicious but only had a tiny circle of pastry on top. So more of a bouillabaisse than a pie. To be fair, the others enjoyed their meal. Dessert choices were kind of mediocre. One or two interesting items and ice cream. And they couldn’t make a Baily’s coffee. Had to serve liquor on the side with coffee and I had to pour it in myself. No whipped cream. The topper? Prices were ridiculous, even for a quality place.
No need to go again.
The calamari salad is excellent!!! i would go just to sit at the bar with a nice glass and order the salad. The prix-fix has a lot of choices and is a good value. We went twice last week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times.
One of the two best restaurants on Shelter Island. 18 Bay is the other, but has a very limited schedule off season. We were very pleasantly surprised to discover upon our arrival that Vine Street offers a $29 early bird prix fixe menu from 5 to 6 p.m. with just a few supplements. The salmon is a must.
The staff was very warm, attentive, and accommodating. When our 11-week-old son fussed, they didn't bat an eye, just continued to treat us very warmly at the same time that they took excellent care of the other patrons. Thank you, Vine Street, for a delightful evening! We will certainly be back.
Everything is so good. Warm bread, miso salmon, filet, calamari salad, bolognese sauce are our usually ordering choices.
Vine Street remains a good choice for an evening out. Well worth the ferry that most people will have to take.
Never disappoints. Staff was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. There's no better restaurant on the east end.
I hadn't been to Vine Street Cafe in a few years, as the ferry ride to the island has increased in price. However, a friend gave me a gift card to this spot and I was thrilled, as it made me make the trip. The food is always excellent. Our waiter got a bit confused during our dinner. He had cleared our dinner plates and we were ready for the dessert menu and he returned with knives and spoons for a first or second course. If he had been a good waiter, he should have remembered our table and known that we were on the third course. Menu choices are always good and the food preparation and presentation is outstanding. I highly recommend Vine Street Cafe.
Had a great night with friends. We were seated on schedule on a busy Saturday night. Diver Scallops, Mussels and filet got high marks. Good wine list. Enjoy.
I have eaten at vine street many times and the food is always fantastic.
I brought friends from out of town and raved about it being the best restaurant on shelter island.
The food was very good. The service was very disappointing. The server apologized about the service but did nothing to improve it. At the price point of vine street , a diner deserves excellent service every time
Unfortunately Friday night we did not get that and were embarrassed to have brought our friends there paying a lot of money for Mediocre service at best
We have been to this restaurant a number of times and find the food to be consistently good. Service is friendly.
Yes there arent a lot of good restaurants on shelter island. This isnt one if them though
We had a truly extraordinary meal at Vine Street Cafe. We were a birthday dinner of five. If you are there on a Friday, have the lobster pot pie.
This was our second visit to Vine Street Café and it did not disappoint! Everything was delicious and the service was very good!
Great food excellent service. It's one of the best on Shelter Island!
What a great meal! The bolognese was excellent. My husband had the steak and it was cooked perfect. We always dine at Vine Street when we are in Shelter Island!
We dined on Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend. This was our third time at the restaurant and we had a 6:00 reservation. The restaurant was fairly empty. We ordered an appetizer then two entrees. The minute the appetizer was cleared our entrees appeared. We had two fish entrees, one was piping hot, the other ice cold and had to be sent back. The minute the protein was eaten of our entrees (read: we still had food on our plate), the first of four different people wanted to clear our plates. We politely declined. They politely disappeared only to have three more people attempt the same. In the meantime, the round table in the corner for 8 was seated with two couples with infants in strollers. They were two of the four infants (under the age of 1 year) seated around us. We finally left our table and retired to the bar since we were not quite ready to end our evening (this was about 7:15). Low and behold, one mother from the table for eight was pushing her fussy infant IN THE BAR AREA IN A STROLLER! .
For a $200+ dinner I do not expect to be rushed, I do not expect cold fish, and I do not expect to navigate strollers. This is not a restaurant for infants.
We left at 7:30 and every table inside and out was full.
We learned our lesson. As wonderful a restaurant as Vine Street Cafe is, holiday weekends is not when it shines. Service, food, ambiance sadly declines in the final push of the season.
Vine Street Cafe is an absolute Shelter Island MUST! My wife and I recently dined here for the 2nd time. We sat outside on a cool summer night surrounded by lit torches. The atmosphere can feel surreal at times. Each dish we ordered was perfect. (TIP: they currently have a Thursday evening special for ribs. Order this as an appetizer. The flavors are strong yet balanced. Amazing.) They have a great cocktail menu, as well as select wines and beers. Any time we come back to Shelter Island, we'll be dining here.
Outstanding! Service excellent
Dinner was fresh and innovative
Bartender super friendly..
Can't wait to come back
Thank you for a lovely evening❤
