About Vine Street Cafe
Chef/Owners Lisa & Terry Harwood opened Vine Street Cafe in 2003. Located on South Ferry Road, just 1.5 miles from the South Ferry. Chef Terry works with area farmers, fishermen & vineyards and features their natural bounty on his seasonal menus. We make everything in house and Lisa's desserts, ice creams and fruit crisps are no exception. Recently, we opened a small market behind the restaurant. This is where you pick up take-out orders while stocking your home pantry. Specialty catering is available along with ready fresh meals such as meatballs, chicken salad, bread, smoked ribs, BBQ Sauce and a selection of artisan pastas. Reservations are highly recommended year round.

Vine Street Cafe Ratings and Reviews
We've been to Vine Street many times over the years and always enjoy the ambiance and food. Our last visit was very disappointing however. It took forever to get our food although the restaurant was not particularly busy. Tables around us that arrived when we did were on dessert when our entrees arrived. My son ordered the filet mignon (the most expensive entree) medium and when the entrees finally came it was raw in the middle. The rest of us had the salmon, which we always love and even crave, but it felt flat this time. The waiter took the meat back to the kitchen and we were all done with our entrees when it finally returned. Further, the white plate had a single piece of filet on it - not a garnish - not a small side vegetable of any kind. For $52 they can at the very least include a side. The waiter did not make any effort to make up for the fact that our very expensive dinner was very poorly executed. A drink on the house or extra dessert would have gone a long way to have us leave satisfied. Instead we left thinking that perhaps Vine Street is not what it once was.
They serve consistently good food, but management needs to step up the training of the wait staff. Tell them not to interrupt people who are in the middle of a conversation (unless they say, "excuse me"), and never to ask "how is everything" when a diner is chewing his or her food. I found the two people who waited on us annoying and intrusive.
We love this place, the food is consistently excellent, the service was excellent. Only 1 complaint, I don't think they have AC. So I had to put my hair up to avoid sweating! It's on the pricer side, but then again, anything decent on Shelter Island is and no one is nearly as consistent.
A true find for foodies who can really appreciate a restaurant that tries real hard and delivers in every way. It's warm and inviting, yet not sleepy. A great vibe and atmosphere , attentive staff and the food is fresh and flavorful. Try the pastrami ribs! Try everything. This is Shelter Island's most delightful find. We already made a second reservation.
VSC is a great spot for a fine dining meal. We had a very pleasant experience. The food was excellent though the mushroom risotto my wife had was way more mushroom than risotto. While the room is romantically lit, it could use a bit more illumination. Service was excellent and attentive and each course came promptly. My bouillabaisse was wonderful with massive prawns and a big half lobster tail. Truly delicious!
