Vincent's Ratings and Reviews
Very small restaurant. We were seated by the bartender (I believe). The waiter seemed disinterested in waiting on us. I wasn't sure if he did not approve of the wine we selected or he was just not happy to be working that night. The bartender brought water & bread and our meal. The waiter did serve the wine and ask us about our meal. It was a Wednesday and the restaurant was almost empty except for a 2 top that left soon after we arrived and there was a 4 top eating when we left. The Beef Wellington was excellent and we would highly recommend. We specifically went to Vincent's because we had heard the Wellington was good. Would recommend this restaurant. Even though the waiter was "dour" everything else was great.
It was our first time going and we went to celebrate an anniversary. There were a number of very good things and things that weren't....bad, no, just could do better. We had made a reservation thru Open Table making note that it was an important anniversary and which one it was. When we arrived we were seated as it was early but there was no mention of our reservation and the note about our anniversary. What's the point of that input if no one is going to read and react when we arrive?
It seemed the server was new which we don't mind. We are patient with new servers but it seems that maybe the person training wasn't prompting her to interact with my us often enough. Learning the flow of seeing to your tables is an art an it takes time to learn. She was very pleasant and on top of things otherwise.
The meal was superb but it took surprising long to get the appetizers to our table. We had gone early so it wasn't busy yet. We couldn't figure out why the delay. One thing nice was the delay between the appetizer and the entree. Quite noticeable but it felt refreshing no to be rushed like many restaurants do these days. Again, a little too many minutes in between courses.
The entrees were very good and plentiful. We enjoyed them that evening and again for lunch the next day.
We have been to Vincent’s many, many times but this last visit was not pleasant. We arrived at 5:30 for an early birthday dinner so it wasn’t busy. Our server had no clue as to what she was doing. We asked about wines by the glass and instead of giving us a list she said “uh, we have Chardonnay, Cabernet, uh, Shiraz “...no names, no prices. We had to ask what the specials were after overhearing another table being told by another server. I ordered the bone marrow appetizer...”oh, sorry, I forgot to tell you we don’t have that tonight”. Our petrale sole dish barely had had any fish but instead was practically all gnocchi which was terrible. We both left our plates full of the pasta after eating the minuscule fish and the server didn’t even inquire about it. Needless to say it was not a happy birthday dinner ! Not sure if we’ll go back again which is a shame because it’s always been one of our favorites.
I can not give this restaurant enough praise! We have never ever been disappointed! I believe it is one of the top/best places to eat in San Diego, HANDS DOWN!! The menu changes often and the Tues-Thurs. specials are such a value for exquisite food. Can't wait to go back!
I love the warm, welcoming service second only to the amazingly delectable dishes. The 1/2 off bottles of wine special on Wednesday is a great come-on as the the fixed price menu they offer early in the evening. I have had only good food here. It is my go-to place for dinners with friends when I want a setting that is comfortable yet upscale, where I always feel welcomed and leave very satisfied.
We go to Vincents quite often. Very friend efficient wait staff, good drinks and always great food, every thing on the plate is thoughtfully prepared and seasoned well. Never needs salt or pepper though they are on the table. I found this place by looking online for the best French restaurants in San Diego area, they had great reviews and turned out to be close by.
We celebrated our anniversary at Vincents. It was our first visit. With cocktails, salads, entres, and dessert it was a $$$$$ meal. But this was one place where the food, service and ambiance was worth every penny. We'll go back and would highly recommend. It's perfect for special occasions.
Food is always consistent and good but the service is something they need to work on.The waiters are always in a hurry and seem to rush us out. They quickly clear the table before we have a chance to finish our piece of bread.I hate this in any restaurant!!!
I don't like to write bad reviews of restaurants, but the experience we had at Vincent was as described by other people who ate there. We ordered the salmon from the menu. Our waitress let us know that they had run out of the salmon and the other fish that was in the menu. She told us that instead they had a special fish dish. She never gave us the run on the specials before we ordered. Since we weren't interested in the fish special, the waitress offered a poussin, young chicken, special. I ordered the poussin and my husband ordered the chicken dish that was in the menu. After waiting for a long time for the food, the waitress came over and let us know that they had run out of the chicken dish that was in the menu. By this time, we had been in the restaurant for one and a half hour. My husband accepted to eat the poussin. We waited another twenty minutes until finally the meal came. The poussin, which is a young chicken and one would imagine that it would be very tender, was awfully hard and chewy. There was very little flesh that was eatable. Therefore, the portion of poussin was so small that it felt like we barely eaten. At this point we were so disappointed and frustrated that we just wanted to leave the restaurant... The whole experience was a comedy of errors... and that is too bad because the restaurant is cozy and has a nice ambience... I believe that the restaurant is not well managed and the chef either forgot how to cook well or he wasn't there...
We recently celebrated a birthday at Vincent’s . There were 13 of us! The food was
terrific , the ambiance was intimate & delightful. I love that there is a quaint, delicious, French restaurant in downtown Escondido! Thank you for a great evening !!
keep up the good work
We discovered this place a few years ago, and every year we've gone back. We're always reminded of how amazing it is, as if we forgot.
The bartender/server was great. Excellent cocktail, and great service.
The food is top notch. The beef wellington was exactly what I expected, and I have high expectations. Their surf and turf was also perfectly prepared. Taste and presentation were great.
I'm looking forward to going again next year.
Like I told our friend at the dinner table: there are only 2 French restaurants in San Diego we believe worth going: Bertrand at Mr. A's, and Vincent's. We did not come for an ocean view, or a TV-ladened bar scene, or patronizing services; we came for the food, and food only, and Vincent's won us over again. The braised short rib was executed perfectly like our previous visits, and the orange molasses-glazed half duck was just a symphony of food delight. While the pate was firmer and more meat than liver than what we had preferred, it was fabulous nonetheless. See you next time!
We enjoy the Continental cuisine with a creative touch. Everything was delicious. The service was attentive. It's pretty easy to find a parking spot in this downtown Escondido area for dinner. This was our third time at this restaurant. We have always enjoyed the food and service here!
The food was unfortunate. The only thing my husband and I thought was fine was the appetizers which we had was the mushroom ravioli...I ordered the beef Wellington and my husband ordered the beef short ribs papppardelle. Both were not good and we left more than half of our food on the plate and did not bother to take them to go...the desserts were also horrible. Restaurant week is supposed to make people come to your restaurant and to want them to come back but we will not be coming back at all!
We ate at Vincent's after making our reservation on OpenTable, so on arrival, we were surprised to find that it was San Diego restaurant week. There was no mention of it on OpenTable. There was also an end of season event that had the city packed.
The restaurant was overwhelmed to say the least. It's a small place with a small bar, but the tables are arranged so you don't feel too cramped. It looked like they added more tables to accommodate the crowd. The waiting area is a very small entry hall & it was packed to over pouring.
We barely made contact with our waiter, he was so rushed & sweaty he had no time to truly do his job. There was no check back & it took at least 1/2 hour to get an ice bucket. That kind of killed it for me.
After finally ordering, we waited another 45 minutes to get the first course. We were a party of 3, but a double, a party of 6 & another triple were seated 15-30 minutes after us & were being served. No one noticed we had been there for over an hour with nothing on our table. We finally told a bus boy & we had service about 20 minutes later, but it wasn't consistent. We think the waiter forgot to put our orders in.
The food was good, we had filet bordelaise, wild mushroom & short rib ravioli & coq au vin, but French should be served & savored, not dropped on the table & rushed. It wasn't the best atmosphere, but on another night I might recommend Vincent's.
I can't emphasize enough how wonderful the food is here! Downside: the service was average at best - it took some time to be addressed when we walked in, we waited quite some time before our order was taken and they forgot to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday (which I had noted in my reservation and when we arrived). It felt as if our presence was bothersome to our server (a male working there on Friday evening). The gentleman that served our food was beyond terrific as he explained the meals we ordered.
The food was really good BUT the restuarnat WAS so HOT. 87 degrees. They said they could not do anything about it. Not enjoyable at all. My hair was soaking wet. Also they didn't have some of their food items. At least 2 of the things I wanted. But what I ended up with was really good. The heat just really ruined it.
