Vinatería is a beloved neighborhood restaurant, rooted in the rich culinary traditions of Italy and Spain, and the philosophy of using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients whenever possible. Vinatería’s vibrant yet comforting dishes are cult favorites among Harlem locals and visitors alike, from Spicy Veal Meatballs with Parmigiano Polenta; and Pollo al Mattone (chicken under a brick) with caper pan jus; to a selection of expertly house-made pastas. The acclaimed wine list is chosen from small producers, and is full of surprising yet accessible finds, while the artisan cocktail program uses house-made syrups, seasonal produce, and fresh-grown herbs from the restaurant’s own windowsill gardens. Vinatería is built on the enduring relationship between fresh ingredients, deliciously prepared food, and life’s moments of enjoyment.

Vinateria Ratings and Reviews
A great place in Harlem near the Apollo Theatre. I had the grilled octopus app and the whole roasted branzino entree and both were very, very good. The rest of my party had the pan-seared scallops, the black spaghetti, and the rosemary pappardelle - all got rave reviews. Our server was efficient, friendly and adorable. She wrote nothing down during our ordering and everything arrived perfectly and was placed at the right person's seat. They didn't have the wine I ordered and as I was choosing another one, the manager (owner ?) offered me a better wine at the price of the bottle I'd initially ordered. Not necessary but a very nice touch. We'll definitely return on a future visit to NYC.
Looking for a good place to eat in Harlem that would satisfy everyone's pallet. This was the place. There was gluten free, vegetarian, Italian. it was a bit noisy, but we were seated in the back, so we could at least talk across the table. The maple cheesecake was amazing.
The food was tasty and the pricing was reasonable. It was a little loud so I could barely hear the server. She had a hard time managing our table of 8.
But overall it was a cool place and I have already told a few people to go!
Had a lovely meal here celebrating my cousin's engagement. The space definitely gets louder as it fills up, but it's not at all unbearable. Appetizers were great (bruléed cheese salad for me, fried calamari with fried chick-peas for my mom) and the cocktails were creative. Overall, I'd call it an Italian spot, and definitely innovative. All of our entrees were delicious, although my duck was a little too over-the top (duck breast, duck leg confit over a white-bean ragout and, inexplicably, house-made pork sausage - the sausage was just too much). That said, dessert (a pot-de-creme) was excellent and I would absolutely go back! Our server was lovely and we all had a great time!
I recently had a birthday dinner there with 12 friends. Vinateria was so warm, welcoming and delicious! They took the the difficulty out of hosting a large party by allowing me to pre-order bottles of wine and appetizers in advance. Upon arrival my guests were greeted with the wine and food, which made for a lovely evening. Thank you!
If I can give this place more stars, I would! The food and drinks were amazing and the staff, especially Ms. Fay made the experience even more spectacular. Very welcoming environment from the phone conversations to the in-person meet. I would pay my money to dine here anytime!! My new favorite spot
Limited menu (a good thing because everything they do prepare has high quality ingredients & all all we have tried has been perfectly cooked). Their wine list is on the pricey side but the choices are excellent in quality. Service is quite good and staff are helpful and accommodating. Overall, a reliable place to go for a really nice evening out in informal surroundings if you don't mind prices that seem a little bit high to us.
I've been here a few times for dinner/drinks, but this was my first time for brunch. While it has the usual crash of people for brunch, we felt very well treated. The hostess and our waiter were attentive and kind. I went with my mom and she is a hard grader and she enjoyed it! We will be back.
We've been wanting to try this neighborhood spot for awhile, and gave it a shot on Sat. night for a special dinner. Our server seemed bored with us from the start. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The drinks didn't come out until well after the appetizer was served. Then we had to pester our waitress to order entrees. I asked a few questions about ingredients, and the waitress again stared out into space as if she couldn't care less. Our entrees came out super fast, while we were still working on the appetizer and hadn't yet had a chance to touch our drinks. There is no way they were made fresh, given the time frame between when we placed the order and when we got it. The menu was interesting, but when we got the food the flavors were nothing special. Better service would have increased our enjoyment of the food, though- things don't taste very good when you are made to feel like a bother. The best part of the meal was the olive oil to dip the bread, which had a unique garlicky note. We had a delicious dessert, but then waited 20 minutes and had to ask 3 servers before getting the check. The lighting was dark and it could have been cozy, but the restaurant was very loud. The metal wall turned what would have probably been a pleasant buzz into a din. There are too many good options in the neighborhood to come back here for food that is alright and service that is poor.
Excellent, well prepared food and really good service. They handled one glitch in one of our food orders extremely graciously and quickly. The place is popular and crowded so can be noisy, sometimes making it hard to converse easily but mostly was ok. The wine list has limited moderately priced options but the contents of the list are quite high quality. All of our choices of dishes were delicious. In short, not a cheap night out but we'll be back when we'd like to eat really first-rate food in informal surroundings.
The staff was so sweet and helpful. My fiancé brought me flowers and they brought us a vase. We may have dropped some food on our clothes and they brought us tide Togo! Besides that the food was delicious. We eat out a lot and always want to go back to vinateria!
My husband and I went here for our 2nd wedding anniversary and had a wonderful evening. Our waitress was very attentive, kind, and patient with our ordering. Two glasses of champagne were delivered to us upon our arrival and we were congratulated on our anniversary. The food was absolutely delicious. The dark chocolate zeppolis are out of this world amazing. Everything that came out was cooked to perfection. Perfect to take anyone deserving of a treat!
Returned to Vinateria after meeting the owner's mother gracious Faye at the bar 2years ago and wanting to go back:
lovely bartender Ashley welcomed us in and recommended excellent red wine, the dinner was full of delicious food- steak and polenta stood out,- the servers were genuinely friendly and helpful. Excellent!
Pluses: The atmosphere was great. We did not have to wait for our table, and the service was friendly. The food was fairly priced. Minuses: All of the five meals we ordered were over salted, and the chicken special was overcooked and dry. Overall, this was not a bad choice, but not a great one either.
Always a wonderful experience at Vinateria, whether I am doing dinner for two or ten. Recently I brought a large group here later on a Friday night. Our table was set with menus in advance, and a few latecomers were easily accommodated with extra chairs. The specials, such as a watermelon salad with haloumi, were a real treat; and some of the staples, such as polenta with wild mushrooms, were delightful -- garnering raves even from our Italian-born/raised friends. We came close to licking our plates clean! The wait service was outstanding; the food came at a good clip; and our need to put multiple credit cards against the bill was relatively stress-free. Oh, and for dessert just remember these three words: OLIVE OIL CAKE. I can't recommend Vinateria highly enough and have been a repeat customer for the past two years.
This was my first time in the restaurant that pulled me into a different section of Harlem that is up and coming. It was Harlem restaurant week, so we took advantage. The meal was nice and the service was very friends. We got their early, so it was quiet, but I could sense that the noise level was rising.
We were seated immediately. After all, it was 5:15, not crowded at all. We asked for happy hour cocktails which are available only when seated at the bar. The bartender was very accommodating & brought the drinks to our table. Not usual service. The food was good and the small number of customers afforded us the ability to carry on a conversation without screaming at each other. 2 hours later, it was a full house. A very popular neighborhood spot. Great for weekend brunch too.
