Vin Santo- Wisconsin
The pasta was very good, however I had the fettuccine pasta and it was soaked in oil, it was not creamy. Best Tiramisu I’ve ever had!!
Our favorite place for Italian food. We brought friends with us who had never dined here and no surprise, they were very impressed. The food is always delicious. I'm a huge fan of the eggplant and no dinner is complete without a piece of tiramisu - one slice serves four OOTW.
We go to Vin Santo often - because it is really good!
Great food! Not a huge fan of the layout personally. It's super cozy and intimate but I think if the layout changed the atmosphere would be EVEN better
Lovely meal with good presentation. Friendly, attentive server. Nice setting for conversation; a refreshing change from many of the more common noisy venues that seem to equate high volume background noise with having a good time.
Vin Santo has been around for a while, and the decor shows. We sat under some stained ceiling tiles. It needs to be redone inside, I was hoping the food was going to blow me away, but it was just okay.
A very nice restaurant and total experience. Attentive staff, outstanding food and an overall outstanding experience. I look forward to the next time we dine there.
This is a charming little place! We were able to hear each other talk without yelling; a nice change of pace in a restaurant! The service was great. Not hurried but prompt if we needed something. The food was excellent. I would go back anytime.
Awesome food as always !!!
Another great experience at this restaurant, always a winner
As usual, we had a delicious dinner with excellent service.
Not our first visit, but each time has been a pleasant experience. Greeting us as we came in, we were quickly ushered to our table and even tho' they were extremely busy, our waitstaff was there with water and drink requests. Starting with our appetizer of salmon tartar on cream cheese brioche, to our caesar salad and then to our entrees of Scampi Diavollo and Portabella Ravioli, we enjoyed each. No room for dessert, but we wished they would have a lighter fare to that course such as gelato. What they had was fairly heavy but no doubt delicious.
Cozy atmosphere with delicious food. We would definitely go back.
The service was fantastic. We got the the calamari appetizer and the sauce was amazing. The main course was perfect and it was a huge portion. If you go, you have the get the bread pudding. It’s a must have. On top of the great food, our waiter was awesome. He was so quick and attentive. Great place!
Best in Madison. Always has been, always will be. Everything is superb.
The chicken in our dish tasted reheated. The sauce was excellent but the chicken left an unpleasant after taste.
Vin Santo has been one of favs and will remain so!
The quality of food is excellent. I like that it is laid back and is always a pleasant experience.
Went to Vin Santo with my hubby for an early New Years Eve dinner. We both had the ravioli and shared a salad. Service was impeccable and was greeted by the owner. Got points for open table too. A favorite place for us!
Four of us went on a Saturday night. Immediately greeted at the door and sat right away. Our server was very attentive to us throughout the evening. She went over the specials with us and gave suggestions when we couldn't decide. The food was incredible and well worth every penny spent. The lasagna special was huge and was a great second meal the next day and just as good as the first day. We will be back for sure!
Vin Santo is a gem. When we ask our adult children where they want to dine out when they are home, it is Vin Santo. The food is always superb. While there are many enticing choices on the menu, my go to dish is the Torte ‘al Mellanzane (eggplant parmesan), which is divine. Of course for dessert the tiramisu is a must. Service is attentive without being overbearing and the atmosphere is warm and friendly.
Enjoyed a nice dinner with the family. Food quality was very good for the price. Much better than your average Italian restaurant. Servers were great - helpful with suggestions and very attentive but not obtrusive. Will definitely return.
We love Vin Santo. The quality of food and the neighborhood atmosphere are great.
Vin Santo is a delightful restaurant tucked into Hubbard Ave. The authentic menu is thoughtfully prepared and perfectly delicious!! The portions are generous; The pasta is amazing!
Great food, great cozy atmosphere, what's not to love. The owners are always there making sure every table is happy and well served.
Great Northern Italian cuisine. Well run place. Friendly atmosphere.
A friend of mine from Atlanta, GA, asked that I take him to the best Italian restaurant in Madison area. From his Goggle search he found that the best Italian restaurant started with an L*'s on University Ave. I said, "NO... decades ago - maybe - but no longer true." He was impressed by the preparation, presentation and flavors - and the attentive servers. I, too, and I know great Italian food! Vin Santo is the best! As an aside, their bread pudding was also superb.. and it should be called a "loaf of bread" pudding. Never been there? Go and you will return.
We always love going to Vin Santo. The food is great and the restaurant so well-run. These folks really know what they are doing.
For years my family went to Vin Santo to celebrate special occasions or my husband and I would sometimes go for a nice intimate dining experience with excellent food. We also frequently would take visitors there because we knew we could count on it. We have not been there for quite a while so when a small group of friends wanted me to suggest a place for a special dinner, I thought of VS right away. The food was very good, however, the waiter was definitely not what I was accustomed to at VS. From the beginning, I didn't feel the normal warm, good greeting and comfort level like the past. It was Saturday and we had a 5:00 reservation. I felt rushed from the start. I'm sure you needed the table for another reservation after that and that was definitely the vibe I felt. We were served a different salad than we ordered, but I settled for what arrived. After we were almost finished, the pepper person arrived and said, I guess it's a little late and I agreed. Bread was served but it felt like an after thought. I remembered oooh ahhh in the past as we ate the bread dipped in the really good olive oil. Food arrived and there were no problems there. Before I had finished our waitress asked the others if they needed boxes! I knew I did, but I wasn't near finished. So, the others handed their plates to her and she came back with their boxes and then I felt compelled to ask for my box which seemed to aggravate her a bit. A short time later she returned with my box and pretty much said does anybody want dessert....no inviting descriptions and we ended up paying the check and going over to Hubbard Ave for dessert. Your tiramisu is my absolute favorite in the world but it felt more comfortable to leave. We are a group of 5 women who have worked on an annual UW Ext project together for years. This isn't a demanding or obnoxious group. 2 of the 5 had a glass of wine, so we weren't loud at all. Because I have always loved VS I wanted to take the time to write this feedback.
It's been several years since I've been here. Had fond memories of great meals and excellent bread pudding so thought it would be a nice place to go for my birthday dinner. The place seems to be suffering from management ennuie. It has not been well kept up. We had 3 different styles of chairs at our 4 person table, one of which was a metal stacking chair. The wooden chairs were starting to look quite worn. In a restaurant of this caliber I was quite surprised that they were using metal stacking chairs and in fact the whole line of tables against one wall appeared to have only this style of chair. I would also expect matching silverware and table cloths or at least paper table coverings. The décor in general was quite tired and could do with an update. Our server was not polished and our pre-dinner drinks were not poured until 10 minutes after we ordered them even though there were only two or three other tables occupied at the time. My husband did like his dish and mine was good but not great. The bread pudding was not as good as I remembered it but my tastes might have changed in the intervening years. Unfortunately, this would not rise to the top of the list for a return visit.
The food and the service were excellent. We would easily come back if we lived closer! Seek this place out when you come to Madison, it is worth the small trek!
My husband and I were in town for the Madison marathon. My cousin recommended this place and it was perfect. The food was fresh and perfect for pre marathon carb loading. Fresh ingredients make a world of a difference. We’ll definitely be back to max out on apps, pasta, wine & dessert.
Lovely place, quieter than most restaurants, good, fresh food. Worth the trip!
Exquisite smoked salmon crostini starter, cream of mushroom soup and Italian sausage lasagne. Very fine wine to go with it too. And Vin Santo is one of the increasingly rare restaurants where it's quiet enough to have a conversation without shouting.
The food is delicious and authentic. Our server presented the descriptions of the specials well. I had a standby of the Pollo Tuscana. The cream sauce is flavorful and the dish vibrant topped with sun dried tomatoes. Our guests had the salmon special with snap peas. They reported it was very good. The Ceasar salad has a tangy dressing with crisp romaine and crunchy croutons.
I just can’t get over the mish mash of chairs and tables. They don’t fit the quality of food offered here. A trip to The Resale Store to even thing out would help this restaurant immensely.
Excellent food and wine!
Good food, attentive waiters, and pretty quiet the night we dined. We had a delightful conversation with the couple at the next table. Close enough to chat, but not intrusive.
We have good allergies and the staff at Vin Santo always take great care of us and our dietary needs.
Overall, the four of us enjoyed the food, timely service, and ambience very much. The waiter was another matter...he was not warm or genuine, and was quite curt. My 87 year old mother asked him to slow down when reciting the specials, which he barely took notice of and quickly returned to very fast talking. We all felt rather turned off by our waiter.
Fantastic restaurant!! We were pleasantly surprised! We were here on business and this was a recommendation. If your in the area you HAVE TO go there!!!
