Vin Rouge Ratings and Reviews
I've been to Vin Rouge several times and am typically very satisfied with my experience, both for dinner and brunch. Sadly, this brunch experience was unlike others. We were seated in a timely way in accordance with our reservation, which was appreciated. The tables in the front room seemed unusually crowded, which may have been due to an event in the back room. From there, service was so quick and concise, that it felt very rushed and detracted from the experience. Further, I LOVE their French toast and have had it many times. On this particular Sunday, it was not the usual French toast--it was overdone and overly sweet.
Becuase Vin Rouge has rocked it so many times, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and will try them again some day, and at the same time, I won't be rushing back.
This is my home base for comforting, excellent food. My date and I had a fantastic time and were surprised only by the size of the portions for what we thought would be more like appetizers. (Oysters Gratinee, for example.) The chocolate mousse is the greatest dessert in the triangle. The service and ambience are impeccable.
We tell people that this is the best French restaurant in the Triangle and it never disappoints. Food is spectacular, whether you want exquisite French (e.g. Trout Amandine) or comfort food (e.g. Mac and Cheese with Gruyere). Great oysters, too! Authentically French in decor but American in service.
I made the reservation well in advance.
We were given a table next to the kitchen
We had no tablecloth
There was yelling over our heads to the wait staff . Very unprofessional. Very noisy.
The entrance door was opened to let out excess kitchen smoke
Cigarette smoke then came in and hit our table and others
I had to ask twice to get the door closed
We did not have a good experience and would not return to the restaurant.
Vin Rouge is a gem in Durham. A truly authentic French cuisine greets you, with many surprises. Escargot is amazing btw.
The service is top notch as well. Staff know the dishes and make recommendations. Took our server's recommendation for the hangar steak and was glad I did. One of the best steaks I have ever had. My daughter is part vegan and the chef prepared her a special vegetarian dish not on the menu.
We had friends visiting from Pittsburgh and we took them to Vin Rouge ....even though we were worried about the noise level ......the last 2 times we were there it was so noisy we had to shout over the music . However on Tuesday night we had a quiet corner table and there were several empty tables so it was quieter than last time and we were able to catch up with our good friends who we had not seen in a while . Food was excellent and our server , Roy, was great .
Service was less than satisfactory. On two occasions waitress took unfinished dish without asking if we are done and later she did the same with wine glass with wine still in it. Almost looked like they were trying to rush us out.
It was my wife birthday, which I specified in reservation. And they did not acknowledge it. Over the years in many restaurants there was always some sort of "surprise" which was very nice. But not this time.
My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here. We were sat promptly. We were taken care of throughout the entire meal. There are several options for seating. We sat in main area. A bit busy and a little loud but we like the hustle and bustle. There was also patio seating and more romantic out of the way tables for those who want something more quiet. Our oysters were perfect. Chef gave us a couple extra for our anniversary. Our food was delicious, my husband had the hanger steak and I had the trout. Felt that for the value we would definitely return and recommend.
Took my daughter and her friends out for Brunch. It is located close to Dukes East Campus so a convenient eating spot to take college kids. Love the look of the restaurant, nice interior but also has outdoor seating. Enjoyed brunch. Will definitely on our next visit try it for dinner.
