My husband and I were in town for a concert and went to Vin Rouge for brunch. Everything was fantastic! My eggs with smoked salmon was delicious and I could not stop eating the frites. Bloody Mary and French 75 drinks were made to perfection. Finally, the staff were super! Friendly, helpful and efficient. Smiles all around!

Had a great Sunday brunch here. The food was excellent and very well prepared. I wouldn't hesitate to do dinner next time we are in Durham. We opted to move to the back "red" room for a little less clamour. The front also got fairly smoky while we were eating. The hostess was on point in explaining these quirks to us before we were seated and was happy to accommodate.

Again our Valentine's Day +1 at Vin Rouge was wonderful. As always the food is superb and what we like is the perfect pacing of the meal. Fast food it is NOT :).

The valentines day meal was absolutely amazing, a very nice menu and the options were fantastic, they really covered all the bases for a wonderful valentines day meal. The staff was very friendly and quick, we got seated almost immediately and our food was out in no time. You only saw smiles from the fellow restaurant goers, and you left with a sense of joy and fulfillment from the wonderful flavors you just had. I will be returning as much as I can.

Once again, our meal at Vin Rouge was great. We've been going there for special occasions for many years, and are alway astounded that without fail their food is so consistently excellent. We love the place not only because of its food, but also because it is so much like an authentic French bistro. An important part of our beloved Durham.

I ordered Eggs Benedict Florintine -- the eggs were not warm and were more like hard boiled eggs. The person I was with also ordered Eggs Benedict -- his were over-cooked as well.

The fries & salad were good, but we wouldn't order Eggs Benedict there again.

The restaurant was crowded, seating was so close that you can basically participate in conversation of the people next to you. The service was sub optimal. It was her first time at a French restaurant, and the waitress had no concept of how to guide us through the menu. Overall disappointing. Seem like a place that should’ve been better than I was. Will not return oh by the way food was overpriced and poorly prepared.

Excellent food as usual and exceptional service. I do need to not wear black next time as the white napkins annoyingly covered me in lint. Offer black napkins next time? A bowl of lemon water for mussel eaters would also be good. Will definitely go back again and again, though!!

My husband had eaten his first escargot in Paris this summer and was hesitant about eating it any where out of France. Vin Rouge did not disappoint. We also enjoyed oysters on the half shell and a wonderful bouillabaisse . Service was great. We will certainly return again. Wow that was a great dining experience.

Entering Vin Rouge your senses are awakened to a complex array of wonderful aromas. Spend a moment to savor it. The dining area next to the open kitchen is charming, small table French style and well lit. The side room where we ate was so dim it was impossible to read the menu or see the food clearly without a flashlight. Romantic, yes, if you’re not really going there for the food. The Bibb salad was simple, fresh and pure, you might say, with just a sprinkle of venegret and water, it appeared.. The liver and onion entree was covered in a sauce so thick it was hard to taste the liver. Parts of the meat were tough. They get points though for putting this on the menu. On the other hand, the Snapper whole fish special was delicious, flaky inside with a light crust outside and dabs of a flavorful cream sauce, neatly apportioned. The wines were excellent. Service was sufficient.
All in all, the experience was a mixed bag

I requested a special table in the small red dining room and I got it! We invited friends and it was important to have more quiet conversation as it can get pretty noisy in the other rooms.
The trout and salmon that we ordered were excellent but the swordfish that my husband ordered was good but quite small for the price on the menu. He will not order it again.
As always a very nice evening.

This restaurant used to be excellent, not now. Steaks were tough, strange flavors, management acted like we were iust difficult to please. Had gone several times in the past and the food was wonderful, won't return.

I took my cousin to Vin Rouge on the recommendation of a friend who used to work there and loved it. It's not typical French food - very creative - and the atmosphere is cozy and unassuming / unpretentious. Loved it and would definitely recommend. The only downside is that there are very few vegetarian options. Luckily I am pescatarian which opened up many menu options.

A Durham classic. The liver pate is one of the best in town. The mussels were delicious, though under seasoned. All the more reason to pair w fries. The hanger steak is heavy on the salt, but one of my favorites.

Vin rouge is consistently excellent. Servers are professional and experienced, food is flavorful, and the atmosphere is romantic and tasteful. One of our three favorite restaurants in Durham, and always meets or exceeds our expectations.

My husband and I had a 12:00 brunch at Vin Rouge.
The noise level was so loud we could not carry on a conversation despite the fact we were at a very small table. The tables were squeezed so closely together that the party next to us kept (inadvertently) pushing their chairs into us.
The food was passable. My eggs which I had ordered poached medium were delivered runny. The English Muffins were soaked prior to breaking the eggs. I'm not sure if this was due to the haste the kitchen needed to function but it spoiled my eating experience. However, my husband had good French toast.
Our server was very pleasant but seemed - as with everything else - rushed.
On the whole, I was very disappointed. In the past we have enjoyed good brunches at Vin Rouge. Not only was this an unpleasant experience - we had to pay for it.
I have canceled our Valentine's Day reservation here.

Our family decided to take advantage of Triangle Restaurant Week for a birthday celebration. it was wonderful except pretty noisy. Thankfully we were in back corner - our last visit was on the terrace which is lovely and of course, not the noise issue. The mussels/shrimp starter with rich garlic/butter/wine broth was the best we've ever had. The trout special was melt-in-your-mouth. My birthday boy son, aged 25, all but scraped the serving "grill" of his salmon. Excellent service!!!! Knowledge of all food offerings as well as great recommendation for our wine selection. I really appreciate great service ..... the entire evening was great success!

Went for a special night with hubby during Triangle Restaurant week. Service was very rushed, did not take time to help with wine, disappeared for looooong stretches. The food was mostly good. We got mussels and shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was over cooked and still had tails on. One had some shell still on. Mussels were fabulous though. main courses were very good. I got the apple bread pudding for dessert. It was very hot - not warm, HOT; rewarmed too long? I've waited a long time to go to this restaurant because it is not cheap. Disappointed and probably won't be back. I'll stick with the place next door.

We went to Vin Rouge during the Triangle Restaurant Week. The salad and trout specials were excellent. We likely will not go back frequently, since it is almost an hour from our home, but do hope to return at some point. We really enjoyed everything about the bistro.

Our service was outstanding. It was Triangle Restaurant Week and the restaurant was very busy. The special menu worked well together and overall the experience was great. The room we were seated was extremely dark and the tables were very close together. There was not enough room for the person being seated next to me to get to her seat, so the table had to be physically moved out and back in. Overall a great choice for a date night.

Amazing homestyle French food with lovely cocktails and great wine list, even some decently priced things. It is very dark in there, making it a little hard to read the menu & know what you're eating. Also, they allowed the people at the table next to us to bring their dog (not wearing anything to indicate the tiny little white fluffball was a service dog) into the restaurant (inside- not the patio) which is disgusting and did not do much for the ambiance either.

Overall, a wonderful meal from the Triangle Restaurant Week menu. Only complaint: the waitress who delivered the chocolate mousse (one reason we love Vin Rouge) shortchanged us. Both scoops she gave us only came out of the metal scoop halfway, leaving a tiny amount in the dessert dish. She appeared to be looking elsewhere, didn't notice and rushed off before we could protest.
