The evening started out well when we were shown to an outdoor table! The outdoor seating was delightful, with overhead fans and jazzy music coming gently from 2 speakers. The waitress was delightful, knowledgeable and not pushy. Food was beautifully prepared and delicious! This restaurant has a great vibe!
This charming restaurant delivers in all aspects--great food, service and ambiance. You feel like you are in a cafe in France with servers that speak English! Our table loved the trout and the tournadoes of beef. The salads are large and could easily be split. I will be back!
Not much curb appeal, but don’t let that stop you. Very good experience on both the service and the cuisine. Decor is comfortable old world. However, washrooms are deplorable and really not acceptable. Was a shocker to an overall great evening. Go and have a great time, just wait until you get home to use the washroom!
Server was a bit discombobulated and awkward. Also did not have adequate knowledge of wine or any specifics of the specials available. Ambiance and vibe of the establishment were exactly what I was looking for in a French style bistro.
Meal was over cooked but still great flavor. 4/5.
My daughter usually chooses this place for her birthday. Wasn’t too busy for a Tuesday night but the service was really slow. We waited a really long time for the food. Her steak wasn’t fully cooked. I never received my wine. Everything was good, just a little slow that night.
On Tuesday night we were four people, 3 of whom had the early 3 course special and one who had sweetbreads as an appetizer and calves liver as his main course. The sweetbreads and calves liver were perfect. Those of us having the prix fixe dinners had the always perfect mixed green salad, the soup de jour (forgot which my friend ordered) and the pate. All were very well received. Our main coursed were perfectly cooked hanger steak, medium rare as requested. We had 3 rich, dark chocolate mousses, denser and more substantial than others I have had. The cocktails and wine were also excellent.
We booked well in advance for Mother's Day evening. When we booked, via Open Table, we got an email notification stating:
"Special note about May 12, 2019
Please note that Vin Rouge is serving a $20/person (not inclusive of tax & gratuity) prix fixe menu for brunch/lunch ONLY. Our a la carte dinner menu will be available for dinner."
Sadly, when we got there, (bear in mind we had traveled from out of state) they were only serving a Prix Fixe menu for dinner too. None of the items from the regular menu that we had wanted to order were on this limited menu. The $65 per person menu did not excite us, and was not what we made the reservation for, so we had to go somewhere else and attempt to find seats on Mother's Day evening.
We are long time customers of Vin Rouge and usually love it. We made reservations 4 months in advance for Mother's Day/Graduation. And we actually talked to a staff member at least 3 times - not once did they tell us that the menu was 3 times the normal prix fixe and that our favorite dishes would not be offered (steak frites, macaroni and cheese, chocolate mousse). When we mentioned this to the server, she was defensive. The assistant manager was also defensive and said that the reservation staff called everyone to let them know in advance of the above limitations. I talked to them 3 times, and not once did they mention this. VERY disappointing.
Realizing it was Mothers Day , I can understand some problems. The server had too many tables to pay us enough attention hence long waits for coffee , water and dessert . My salmon came out luke warm but was presented well. The bloody mary I ordered was so full of ice they should have called it a slushy. We have been there several times for dinner and were not disappointed but never brunch again.
The food was great as always! However, when I was contacted by the restaurant to confirm the reservation, they mentioned neither the cancellation fee nor that they were only serving a fixed price menu for graduation weekend. I would have really appreciated having that information earlier to make decisions about a venue for celebrating graduation. It would be great to have this information clearer on the open table reservation as well!
I think the restaurant did a great job, considering it was graduation weekend and Mother’s Day weekend. Food was excellent and our waiter (Omar I think) was terrific. The only thing I don’t like about Vin Rouge is the noise level! It’s always so noisy there! That’s becoming a problem in lots of restaurants these days as people, like myself, enjoy a quiet dining experience.
Loved the atmosphere and great service!
Vin Rouge is almost always fantastic. There have been a couple of times that we have had a waiter that just wasn't really up to the experience we were hoping for but most of the time the service and waitstaff is excellent. This last time in particular EVERYONE was extremely pleasant and attentive. The hanger steak on the Prix Fix menu is a ridiculous deal. Certainly not cheap but for a meal of that quality it's a great value. My only down side is the main room is quite crowded. You can be elbow to elbow in there. I'd recommend requesting the side rooms especially if you're looking for something a bit romantic.
We love Vin Rouge. When I wrote that the noise level was "moderate" as opposed to "energetic" I meant that in a good way! Our table is always able to carry on a conversation and I notice that the other tables are too. Lots of happy talk going on throughout the restaurant. We love the sunny room, the dependably delicious food, and, this past visit in particular, our kind and attentive waiter.
Vin Rouge is always delicious, and the staff is attentive and friendly.
Excellent French food in a cozy restaurant. Antique furnishings and lighting create romance. Great wines and menu.
Everything was delicious, the mussels are a must. And even though it was a busy Friday night, we were able to reserve a table easily on Open Table. The service was efficient and friendly, and the staff was very knowledgeable about the menu.
The waiter Spencer was great. We got to sit outside on a lovely day. The food was fantastic .
Really neat restaurant with great French cuisine. You cannot beat the price Or the ambience. Highly recommend
Vin Rouge is the best French restaurant in the area and by a wide margin. The food is creative, fresh and expertly prepared. Their $25 prix fixe menu also is the best value in the area. The staff are knowledgable and friendly. An added bonus: a pooch-friendly patio!
Very good. Loved the food and the funky decor. The baked clams and the cheese board were excellent. I would love to go back.
The food is consistently excellent and the service is good. Unfortunately, the music was blaring from the speakers. We asked for them to turn it down, which they finally did but that didn't last for long.
To say the least, the music did not enhance our dining experience. As Vin Rouge takes pride in their food and presentations, they should revisit the volume of their music.
Best French cuisine in the entire Triangle. Hands down.
We love Vin Rouge. We came this past week for my wife's birthday. I let them know that we were celebrating her on the reservation and they gave us a great table by the window. As always, the food was great.
The chicken was slightly undercooked
I was very pleased that my request for a special table was honored. My bouillabaisse was quite good as I appreciated the delicious shrimp. Unfortunately I had a hard time fishing for the little pieces of fish and several clams had not opened up. A small piece of fish and several more opened clams would have been perfect. I scooped up the very good stock they were in. Since we arrived early the French waiter and I had a nice conversation in French. The service was very good. My husband's salmon was cooked to his liking. And we shared the quite scrumptious mousse au chocolat which is delivered with an icecream scoop into a dish. It was light with little bits of chocolate. We shall be back soon!
I have been a regular customer since Vin Rouge opened. I happened to go two nights in a row this week with two different friends. The Nicoise Salad was typically good. The Hanger Steak was huge but tasteless and thick like a sirloin, with soggy fries and a tiny bit of lettuce without dressing. My friends liked their meals well enough The most disappointing part was the mediocrity of the two drinks I ordered. Usually, Vin Rouge makes a great Sidecar but this one tasted exactly like the Whisky Sour I had the next night! Not sure what kind of bourbon is colorless and tasteless but the drinks both reminded me more of lemonade. Also the wine list is so limited that it was difficult for me or my friend to find a white wine we wanted, so she settled and after my drinks I did not bother.
One of our favorite restaurants. Reminds of our dining experiences in Lyon. It's a fine dining experience but yet a relaxed atmosphere. And the staff are first class.
Wonderful!!! Omar our waiter was fantabulous!
I am an Executive chef by trade with 30 years of experience.
I am constantly served mediocre food with bad service.
The food was on point, very true representation of what I eat when in France.
The service was good from Parker a nervous but attentive waiter with good intentions.
I will dine again at Vin Rouge!!!
I ordered the salmon and lentils, and it was by far the best entree I've had there. The lentils had a nice tanginess to them to complement the salmon! Delicious! The beet salad was good, not great. The service was very slow. My husband had the bouillabaise that didn't feel all that substantial and was barely lukewarm, so he was a bit disappointed.
Delightful and delicious Easter brunch. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals; server was friendly, attentive and fun. We will definitely return!
Excellent food (I can never resist the trout almandine), drinks, and service. We were celebrating my birthday and our wait person didn't hesitate to take some photos of us...as well as agreeing to take photos of the diners at either side of us; apparently, everyone was celebrating something that night! Vin Rouge is consistently superb. A little on the noisy side for me, but not beyond expectations.
Loved the atmosphere, and felt like I was back in Paris.......great menu selections, but waited 20 mins. for our entree after 1st courses.......even our waitress was not happy. I would go back in a heartbeat...delicious food and great wine list.
We have been looking forward to a visit here for some time, but it was very disappointing and we will not return - miniscule serving of tapenade appetizer, sweetbreads good, Poisson du jour (skate) was mushy and very fishy - not fresh, accompanying mashed potatoes watery, salade nicoise was MEH, tornedos (filet mignon) tough and overcooked, server overstretched, absurdly noisy for a 'class' dining venue
Food was amazing
In our recent visit to Vin Rouge, I ordered the oysters au gratin, thinking I would have them as an appetizer. When the dis arrived, I was astounded at the size if the plate and promptly cancelled my dinner order. The staff, thankfully, had no problem with the cancellation. I must say that if I were ever interviewed on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate", that oyster dish would be my choice!! It was exceptionally delishous!! I sopped up as much of the sauce as I could with the French bread toast points. Afterwards, a simple bib lettuce salad topped off my meal perfectly. The only problem I'll have in dining at Vin Rouge again is that I will never be capable of ordering anything else from their outstanding menu! I will forever be stuck on oysters au gratin!
We very much enjoyed dining on the patio. As usual, the food was excellent (and because we live part of the year in the south of France, we’re picky). We enjoyed the charcuterie plate, the frisée salad, the sweetbreads, and the chicken with Dijon-tarragon sauce. It can be a little too noisy and crowded inside, but the patio in the early evening was delightful.
Great evening. Anniversary. Congratulef at desk, glasses of sparkling wine. Waitress congratulated us. Steak frites for dinner/ had the onglet (hanger steak). Great prep, right on point- med rare. Thought the green salad could have had a little more dressing. Frites were as good as the steak.
Loved it. A comfortable, homey dining experience with great food
