Vin de Set Ratings and Reviews
Charles, Sara and new server, Dani made our evening so much fun. They made awesome recommendations and really were fun and engaging. They really added to the evening. Great food, wonderful wine, comfortable atmosphere all wrapped up with a great service team. . . perfect evening!
I found this restaurant when I did a search for Lafayette Square restaurants. I checked out several of them and decided on Vin de Set because of previous reviews and price.
My friends and I were very pleased. My one friend said that her neighbor had actually recommended your restaurant and so it was a coincidence That I choose it.
We went to Vin de Set last weekend for my birthday. There was a slight wait (which surprised me given that I had an Open Table reservation) but it was fine. We were seated in the enclosure that they put up outside their deck and we were seated by the plastic covering over the enclosure. It was a little on the cool side, but it was a nice night and there was a full moon that provided a great view. (Once it gets a little colder, however, I would definitely prefer the inside dining area.)
Though there were several excellent options, we chose to order from the Prix Fixe Menu. It was a terrific way to try a number of things we probably would not have otherwise. Really nice that they offer a prix fixe for three items OR four items and you can pick among them!
I was surprised that the staff had signed a Happy Birthday card for me and it was given to me when we were seated - a very nice touch! Also a dessert "on the house" showed up after our entree plates were taken away.
Vin de Set is a wonderful restaurant for a celebration or just a nice dinner. It would also be an excellent choice for dinner with a small group as well.
Even though this restaurant is known for its outdoor seating and views - its so beautiful on the inside also. We enjoyed a meal with friends and all were satisfied with their meals. I had the duck confit which was done perfectly. Portions were reasonable. My husband was a bit disappointed that his prime rib didn't come with anything else on the plate (the rest of the meals did)- just a slab of meat - but it was an impressive piece of meat! We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine and passed on dessert so I cannot comment on that. I love the old historic buildings of St. Louis and this did not disappoint.
This may not be a fair review because no one got an entrée. We just did soup and salad. The French onion soup was a big disappointment. It was almost all onions and very little broth. And what broth there was…… it was made sweet, not like a traditional rich oniony beef broth. We also ordered the escargots. Again, not traditional and we did not like their spin on it. But that is our fault because there was a description of the way it was prepared and it was not in garlic butter. The restaurant is beautiful so next time we will order an entrée and hopefully will be pleased. The salads, by the way, were very good.
Perfect for a family Sunday morning birthday brunch. The staff was very friendly and helpful in providing a pleasant atmosphere for the entire family, including a 4 month old baby and a 4 year old toddler. The brunch selection of foods was very diversified and provided something for every taste. The items were cooked to perfection and delicious. We will return for the next event to be celebrated.
The food was very good. I had bouillabaisse and would highly recommend it. My gf had a stuffed lobster special and it was excellent. Everything about Vin de Set is exceptional but the price. I thought $140 for 2 drinks and dinner was a bit high. Nonetheless I would go back.
our dinner was ridiculous. the heaters emitted a horrible smell of gas that didn't dissipate. the fish was awful. my husband only had an appetizer and a salad, i had a salad and bouillabaisse, we split a mediocre bottle of wine - and the tab was $150 per couple. if it had been good, or had the ambiance been pleasant...but such was not the case.
We chose Vin De Set for our one year anniversary and were not disappointed. The Maître D' welcomed us and made us feel at home. He (John) even took pictures for us due to our missed photo shoot before hand.
The entire waiting staff and patrons made it an extra special night. They were all attentive and happy to celebrate our occasion.
I couldn't recommend Vin De Set more for a special night out. We will be back.
Charlie, our server. Was absolutely fantastic! This place was very good and the only two draw backs were the street noise was noticeable, and certain items were not as tasty as they sounded and looked. (Scallops and ratatouille ravioli) However, the beat and pistachio crepes and Chilean Bass were fantastic. Overall we really liked the restaurant and staff and experience!!!
