Hands down the best brunch in the city. The eggs are fresh and cooked just right, the biscuits are never overworked but always buttery and flaky. The main dishes, from swordfish with wild rice and asparagus, to cassoulet, to prime rib, are always cooked to perfection and with tasty sauces, when appropriate. The toughest part is holding a bit of room for desserts, which are top notch. The brownie and creme brûlée are among the very best I’ve ever eaten. A great value for the price.
Awesome food and service
Great dinner with a beautiful view! The food was amazing and we had great recommendations from our server. We went for dinner and plan to come back for a Sunday brunch.
We absolutely love Vin De Set and it is our "go to" dinner spot when the weather is nice for outdoor dining.
The food is amazing and the views are great. Service is always efficient, although a bit busy this past Saturday.
We enjoyed the special attention from Ryan Buettner for our "two birthdays" celebration.
We really enjoyed our recent dinner to celebrate our anniversary at Vin de Set! The service was a tad bit disappointing, but it was a wonderful night to be outdoors.
The cost of the special that night really surprised us as well, but I guess we should have asked. It tasted amazing, but we probably both would not have ordered the special if we had known it was that pricy.
My husband and I chose this restaurant from others in the area as it was something different. We are British, travelling for work in the US and the towns we are in tend to have similar options, Italian, Mexican and American. There were many items on the menu that sounded appealing. In the end we chose to share four appetisers which is something we do often, it’s a good way to try different dishes. We ordered, Potato and Gruyere Croquettes, Stuffed Mushrooms and Chicken Crepes. The croquettes looked as though they were fried too long, they were very dark. We could have forgiven this but they had no cheese flavour at all. They were just over cooked breadcrumb covered balls of potato. The crepes were described as “pulled chicken ‘ what came was small chunks of overdone, dry, chicken, in a slightly burnt tasting sauce. One of my crepes was not cooked at all.
We did point out the undercooked crepe and the waiter asked if we’d like it redone. We have a policy of not sending food back , so we said no. I left the uncooked crepe and plenty of the chicken. Our waiter was good but told us he’d not been there long, I think someone more experienced would have taken note and possibly removed something from the bill.
However, the stuffed mushrooms were delicious, also the bread and herb butter were good.
It’s a real shame because the menu was great and had the food been good we would have gone back to try other items. Unfortunately we wouldn’t go there again.
I don't think I quite understood what the restaurant was like when I made the reservation. It's on the rooftop of a building - covered with swags of tenting. There is a small bar area up there with some outdoor seating areas. The food was typical French bistro style - everyone enjoyed the food. The night we were there they also had sort of a "fresh catch" area where you could select your fish/seafood and have it grilled for you. The ambience was totally worth it - we were a group of 8 and had a wonderful dinner up there on a very beautiful evening weather-wise.
Vin de Set is a great venue on an evening when the roof-top is open.
Perfect atmosphere, great food and service!
Food is exceptional; excellent staff with good knowledge and service etiquette . Wonderful fresh ingredients nicely complement one another on an attractive plate. Cocktails were good. Roof top - stunning with excellent background jazz/funk music!!
If I could rate based solely on atmosphere, this place would get a 5. The bartender was great and the place is decorated beautifully. Unfortunately the food and service left much to be desired.
My family and I came here Sunday night to celebrate Mother's Day. My boyfriend and I split a prix fixe menu with a roasted chicken crepe, soup, pork chop, and Nutella crepes. The first 2 items were fine, nothing great but nothing bad. On the other hand, the pork chop tasted spoiled. Neither of us, who both love all food, finished it. When we brought this to the manager's attention he said he would take it off the bill, however, it was left on the bill. The Nutella crepe was good but the candied pecans were completely left off. My father's salmon had a very large blood line and the swiss chard that he ordered was never brought to the table.
I will not be back and will not be recommending this place to any of my friends.
Our dinner at Vin de Set was underwhelming, which was unfortunate since we were celebrating an anniversary. All of our food was underseasoned, to the point where it just tasted flat. Once we asked for salt and was able to add some, it helped, but ideally that is done during the cooking process, not after. We understand that not everyone has the exact same tastes, but overall we were surprised and disappointed that a restaurant of this caliber would serve underseasoned food, and not just one dish, but all of them.
We were seated in the outdoor seating area, which overall had a very nice ambiance. Unfortunately, though, they feel a need to squeeze two tops into tiny spaces between four-and six-tops, making it hard to not feel you are a part of the conversation with each table around you, not to mention your own lack of privacy.
On the bright side, our server Alisha was great; just the right amount of attentiveness and friendliness.
Delightful dinner experience from arrival to the dessert, appreciated the kindness and quality service provided by everyone we met.
Our brunch experience with my husband was amazing! The food tasted oh so good and was plentiful. Our favorites were the crepes and the bacon! Great options for the waffle and omelette stations and cooked while you wait. The Maitre’d considered our preference to sit out in the sun and even came to our table later to check on us. Always a good thing when staff takes pride in their establishment! I definitely recommend this place for Sunday Brunch!!!
Fabulous food in a beautiful out door setting! Great Sunday brunch!
Maybe it was the man using his hands to pull apart the waffle and place 1/4 of it on my plate that turned me off. Yes. He used gloves. But I also know what else he touches with the gloves. And I am wondering why an upscale restaurant wouldn't provide the carving station attendant ( also in charge of waffles) with serving utensils?
Later on - the same question was posed by another woman at the dessert table. Trays of interesting dessert tarts and mini cakes, but no tongs and no serving utensils. Not hygienic.
Made to order omelette was made using fresh ingredients, but no flavoring. And when I say no - I mean no salt, no pepper, no basil, no oregano. Quite bland.
The crepes were cold.
Pecan tarts were delicious, as was the creme brulee.
Lovely restaurant. However the waitress was marginal. When I asked for lemon for my water she brought several pieces on a napkin. Not the expected delivery from an upper-scale french restaurant.
One and done.
I very much enjoy Vin de Set whether for brunch, lunch or dinner. At this recent brunch, I was especially taken with the biscuits and gravy: the biscuits were very small, so one could actually have a taste without taking too much. The same was true of the French Toast. It wasn't ordinary, but it was smaller than a usual serving. Everything I tried was very good to excellent.
Service is also very good. Even though the service was buffet style, our needs were checked frequently and water was not ever dry.
My wife and I were in town for our 1st weekend away since getting married. I had been there several years prior and was impressed to the point that this was a “must do” for our 1st get away! Amazing food and service! We will for sure be back our next time in STL!
Graduation dinner. Had six people and staff were more than accommodating- moved us to a table with great views of the city. Also gave us complimentary desserts for our celebration.
Came for our 1st Anniversary. AMAZING food. Ryan was our waiter. Great guy helped with dessert selection. My lady was more than pleased with his recommendation of the Maple Cheesecake. I thoroughly enjoyed the moist and perfectly cook Lamb Porterhouse. You can see the glow of Busch Stadium just under the brow of the Arch across the downtown skyline. A memorable night in an amazing atmosphere. However, I must say it was the company of my beautiful Love that enhanced the perfection of the evening!! Thank you for an AMAZING night
First time in St Louis. This place was nice with a beautiful view. Great food and atmosphere
Was recommended to come here by a friend. Rooftop ambiance is fantastic - went with my mom and sister on a Saturday evening with a reservation and had no problem getting sat. We even got to be seated on a deck that is above the rest of the rooftop, which had a great view of the Arch in the distance. Our waitress was very kind and attentive and did a great job to make sure we had everything we needed. Only downside was, sadly, the food. I haven't had much French cuisine, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but for the price it was very underwhelming. I ordered the Beef Bourguignon and it was cooked well, just wasn't loaded with the flavor i was expecting. My sister ordered the house special, the swordfish, and while the broth had good flavor, the swordfish still had a bit of an aftertaste to it. We did enjoy the spicy crab beignets, however. I would come back here with friends and just order wine and cheeses to share. Again, the ambiance was great, but the food was a disappointment.
As always, an outstanding meal, in a great place, served by the best staff!!
Had a great evening in early May - four of us enjoyed cocktails and dinner on their beautiful roof deck.
We were very excited to try Vin de Set. Sadly, by the time dinner was over we had a feeling of disappointment. The restaurant itself was nice at first glance.
The experience began to go downhill from the time we were seated. Our hostess made the experience awkward because of her lack of knowledge and attitude. She gave us the wrong information regarding our drinks twice which made it take about 15 minutes for me to get a beer (the wrong one) and my girlfriend to get her cocktail. We began ordering she gave non descriptive explanations to the few questions that I had, which left me wondering me than I started with.
Once the food arrived it was OKAY, but not what I had hoped for. The steak was lacking flavor and the chicken had a rubber feeling when chewing. However, the appetizer portion of stuffed mushrooms were GREAT!
Overall, this was a less than pleasing dinning experience. It may have been an off night for the restaurant as a whole, but I will not be returning.
We each had the 4 course Pre Fixe menu. Delicious and very generous portions. I will be back the next time I'm in St. Louis.
Love the outdoor seating and food options are always great!
This was our first visit and a birthday celebration. The food and service were outstanding. The only down side was that the weather didn't cooperate to allow us to sit outdoors, but we will save that for our next visit. The Creme brûlée was fabulous! Though I can't give details to the specific food choices, everyone said their choices were excellent. We had a great evening!
Great food and service. Quite loud on the patio
I had been wanting to visit Vin de Set for quite sometime. The crab beignet appetizer was nice but all three of our meals were under par. Perhaps the roof garden would have added to our experience had it not been too chilly to sit out that eve.
Excellent food. Overall great experience.
This was my first visit and I was very impressed. Service and food were beyond my expectations and the sunny rooftop environment with French music playing in the background was outstanding. I will definitely go back, and will look for opportunities to take friends.
Drinks were watered down. Waitress was nice nasty.
It was amazing as always. Love the rooftop patio. Or server was amazing. He made or mail so much fun.
My husband and I ate here before attending an event at the Peabody Opera House. I felt the prices were in line with the atmosphere and type of food offered. I found the prix fixe menu to be a great option with good selections and a choice of 3 or 4 courses. My husband’s steak was excellent and in line with what a steakhouse would charge. We loved our service and can’t wait to go back and try cocktails on the patio!
We were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary with our daughter and spouse. The location on the top floor of a recycled building was fantastic. The service was spectacular, the food was magnificent, and the wine was superb. We are definitely going back.
We had a great time. The menu is such that there was an option for everyone. This was a business group of nine and they did a great job of accommodating some last minute additions. Look forward to going back
The girls and I had a wonderful night out starting with dinner and drinks at Vin de Set! So much fun with delicious treats!!!
The food was amazing and the service was great! We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back!
Wonderful food and great atmosphere. Love the exposed brick. Excellent service.
