The name Vin de Set comes from the phonetic spelling of the French number 2017, the address on Chouteau Avenue. Situated on the roof of a national historic landmark just minutes from downtown St. Louis, Vin de Set offers an expansive open-air deck for dining and outdoor bar, indoor dining rooms and a breathtaking indoor bar. The design is inspired by 19th century architecture which features vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and towering arched windows with panoramic views of the arch, Union Station and downtown St. Louis. The marriage of the existing structure, modern finishes, seasonal classic cuisine of southern France which creates a distinctive atmosphere & culinary experience.

What a great way to spend time with family after Easter Sunday Services. The choices were incredible and delicious and the atmosphere on the rooftop was superb. The service was once again exceptional with the owner Paul Hamilton working the carving station! Pure class!

We had a lovely experience. We were the only persons in the restaurant for most of the meal which is just the way we like it. The service was great. The food was very good, though a few minor things could have been improved. Would highly recommend.

Everything was extremely good, the food and service was top notch. The only con was the amount of noise from a large event going on, made having a private conversation extremely difficult.

We go here often. This time the service was uneven, along with a little too much interest on the part of management. The food is a big draw, and we will be back.

We had to change our reservation time and they were most accommodating. Bar appetizers at 1/2 price a great value and quite tasty. Our dinners were outstanding; we had a table outside on the roof and it was wonderful. Our grandson's birthday was the reason for our dinner there and he received a birthday dessert which was fun.

Food was pretty good for a buffet - although I thought it was pricey. Set up of buffet should be changed slightly. Do not put table where plates are at the front of the room - it causes a log jam in the already narrow doorway. Price was higher than expected - so the complimentary mimosa with $1 for the specialty mimosa was a nice touch.

Vin de Set has been, for at least the last five years, one of our favorite places to go for "that special dinner", as in birthdays and anniversaries. We dined at Vin de Set this past week for our wedding anniversary. The food and the staff met or exceeded our expectations. Our waiter was especially good, as I felt he wasn't pushy, fawning, or obtrusive; he performed his job very well. Everyone was friendly and helpful. (The only deduction I give them is for the chairs - they were outdoor-style chairs, not very friendly to my bony derriere.) We will certainly be back - I highly recommend them.

Oh my gosh. From the start my wife and I were utterly impressed by Vin de Set. Even just the French bread with herb butter that they brought to the table was amazing. I wanted to eat the dollop of butter like it was a Lindt truffle.
The service was outstanding, there was nothing that I needed that I didn't have, but also was not overwhelmed by constant check-ins. Our server Patricia was friendly and extremely helpful in making decisions about what to get. Her recommendation of the crab beignets was definitely the right call.
When my seafood bisque hit my mouth, I was ready to ask for it in a 32oz to go cup with a straw, because I could enjoy that soup forever! The ratatouille ravioli was perfectly done. You would be hard pressed to find a better cooked pasta. The involuntary laugh I gave out at the first bite of Angus steak was just pure joy (followed by a handful of expletives about just how damn good it was).
My only regret is that as full as we were, there just wasn't room for dessert.

We sat on the patio and it was very noisy. Our waitress was very nice. My fish came cold and the recipe was very disappointing. When we arrived I asked for information about the party venue and we were told by the person whom we spoke to to access our reservation that he would get us the card for the event manager and that never happened. We have had better experiences there in the past.

Reserved an early Saturday night dinner at 6 pm. It was almost empty but we got seated on the windowless side right across from the kitchen door. Probably the worst table available. People going in and out of the restrooms, servers going in and out through the swing kitchen door with the smell of maybe dishwashing or some other cleaning product wafting in. Servers were very nice and polite but almost too attentive.
Food sounded incredible but was mediocre, the appetizer "tart" (can't remember the exact name) was the worst - doughy and tasteless.
We do love Vin de set for ambiance and the summer time on the roof and the bar is very charming but .. it needs improvement for what it really is. Especially considering St. Louis food scene. I would only recommend it for cocktails on the roof.

I wrote a review for Vin de Set on January 22, 2019. I wrote in my review that "my filet came out with a big glob of cold stuff on top. I mentioned it to the server but nothing was done. I figured out that it was the blue cheese accompaniment to the fillet. It had obvious been pre-made and placed on the fillet but never heated so that it would melt." I took my daughter and her friend to Vin de Set on Saturday, March 16. She ordered the same fillet as I had ordered in January. You guessed it! It was served with the same big blob of cold stuff on top.

As I said in my previous review "everyone makes a mistake. It is how that mistake is handled that shows the quality of the restaurant." Obviously, the problem has not been corrected. Furthermore, the quality of the meals was not what we have previously been served. I have come to wonder if the restaurant is not sliding a bit.

We were looking forward to our dining expeience. However, none of the food ordered was good. The escargot was extremely salty. I ordered crepes and you had to dig through food that was salty and inapprpriate for a chicken crepe. My grandson ordered the trought. Again not edible. The manager did come over and asked what the problem was with the food. It was a ne
w menu. He was very nice and did comp one of the meals. I have been to vin de set on other occasions and loved the food. Either they have a new chef or people in the kitchen who can't cook. The best thing on the menu was the dirty martinis. Even the creme brulee was cold. It was tasty but cold

I took my girlfriend here for lunch to celebrate out anniversary and we loved it! The staff was outstanding, very knowledgeable and courteous. The food was delicious. Personally I recommend the beef bourguignon (great for leftovers too). They gave us an anniversary toast with a lovely card. We have to return there. It was perfect.

We went before concert. Meal was timely and delicious. Server was attentive and friendly. Many menu options. Will return for quiet evening with spouse for yummy food and good energy.

The 3 onion soup and mixed salad were very good. We ordered two different seafood main courses and both had a degree of blandness that we weren't expecting. Dessert was a cheesecake that was over the top in richness and covered in to much sauce. We spent about 10 minutes in between courses with empty cocktail and water glasses, and bread was offered but never delivered. The ambiance and service overall was good, however. Hostess was very energetic and had a great attitude. This was our second time here and there's probably not a great chance of us coming back for anything other than brunch.

Escargot was very good. The Duck crepes were tasty but the duck was tough- not tender at all. Onion soup very good except my soup was delivered with a burnt crostini on top. It should have never left the kitchen that way. We both ordered the beef entree which was apparently the best choice on the menu and it too was tough. Server was awesome! She made up for the sub par food.

We’ve enjoyed vin de set in the summer, it’s nice to sit outdoors above the city. The winter though is another matter. The enclosed patio had little, if any charm. Additionally the wait staff seemed somewhere between distracted and inattention. While ordering the waiter paused to have a conversation with a coworker and then turned back to us. The escargot and cocktails were very nice. The salads were drowning in dressing. I had the duck confit for dinner which was dry and over cooked. Perhaps a nice place to come on a nice day and have a drink, but I don’t see myself returning for anything more than that.

We have eaten at Vin de Set many times before and this time was the first disappointment we've had. My wife's meal was fine but I had meat and Yukon potatoes which the meat was perfect but the Yukon potatoes were dry. We had a 5:00 reservation and my assumption was that these potatoes were left from the day before and unfortunately there wasn't enough Peppercorn sauce to counter act or make up for the dry potatoes. I did not say anything but should have because this was not up to the standards we are used to. Because we have had good experiences at Vin de Set and Eleven Eleven Mississippi, we will go back. But if this happens again, there are plenty of other good restaurants in St. Louis to spend my money.
