Vin Antico Ratings and Reviews
It's our go to spot! We had the flaftbread special with mushrooms & carmelized onion & app special that was a bees tartare. Both amazing. We also got the burger - the nest in Marin. Sit at the bar and Eric, the bartender will give you great service and break out a few ohms Rodney Dangerfield 's hilarious lines.
I've been eating at Vin Antico since it's inception. I love the space and the manager and staff are attentive and wonderful. However, over the course of this restaurant's life, I have seen head chefs come and go, and with them the consistency of the quality of the food. Although tasty on some level, the amount of money you will end up spending feels outlandish for what you have received. I wanted to continue to support this local business but I don't think I will be able to as my last three meals have been disappointing on some level. Good luck, Vin Antico.
My friend and I went to an early dinner before going to the lecture at the Marin Center. It was pretty quiet since it was Monday and 5:30... I would guess the noise level would be higher if they get busy. The food is good, but portions are pretty small and most of the wines by the glass are pretty expensive. We each had one glass of wine (they were out of the 'inexpensive' $12 pinot noir...this has happened to me here before.. so I had a $10 cabernet, my friend had white wine), and we shared a kale salad and halibut dinner --too much dressing on the salad, so I'd get it on the side next time. The halibut was tasty but not as large a piece as waiter had indicated it would be. Our bill came to $88 with tip... kind of expensive for the portion sizes... I wasn't "full" when we left. Given that there aren't many great restaurant choices in San Rafael, I'll likely go back at some point but I really wish they would have more 'reasonably priced' wines by the glass and maybe up the portion sizes a bit.
We had a party of 10. 4 of us got there early for a drink but there was no room at the bar. Fortunately, the Speakeasy was open upstairs. So convenient! Once our party arrived we were seated. The food was delicious. Everyone was impressed. Great service too - not one complaint!
Terrible food and service. There were less than 20 people dining yet the service was super slow. Waiter came 15 minutes after we were seated. Crispy Brussels Sprouts were too tarty. The burger were over cooked. I guess we should have told the waiter that we wanted our burger rare. The Point Reyes blue cheese was too overwhelming for the overcooked burger. There is nothing romantic about the restaurant. It was too noisy. Imagine if the restaurant was in full capacity. Will definitely not dine there again.
The food and waiter were wonderful. Food was absolutely presented well and very ver local and in season. We arrived for an early dinner and rugs were on chairs and the bartender was dirty he wiped his nose and did not wash his hands before making my husbands drink. Glad I was drinking Champagne
Our second time at this restaurant. This time after going to the Italian Film Festival. We especially appreciated the quiet, since most restaurants seem to be deliberately noisy. Everything is beautifully prepared and presented. We were thanked when we came in for making a reservation!
This is a great find with locally grown/raised, organic food. Our go-to is Insalatas, but this was a nice alternative with gluten and dairy free options that don't sacrifice flavor. We split the seared scallops and the prosciutto and grilled peach salad starters. Delicate flavors and blending of textures were a hallmark. For the main, the pork chop was awesome - so juicy and flavorful. Unfortunately, the halibut was a disappointment, firstly because I was told the fish special was Salmon that night, so when I started eating it, it was so much drier than I'd expected . . . but then I realized it was halibut and I was less disappointed in it, but I still think it was dry for halibut. Not sure I'd do that one again, but I will definitely give them another try—I felt the majority of what we had was really nice.
Each time I go to Vin Antico there is always something new on the menu! It has the best ambiance of any restaurant in San Rafael, tastefully decorated and the food is always presented beautifully. The greens are always so fresh and everything has such great flavor. I know everything comes from local growers which is very important to me. The wine list is extensive, diverse and has something for everyone. Clearly a San Rafael gem for lunch or dinner!
Very nice neighborhood restaurant and bar with very good ambience. Food was very good, well presented, the staff service, overall friendliness and atmosphere were also very good. Nice location for a casual dinner or for small plate sharing which was what we chose to do.
Gorgeous restaurant, attentive knowledgable staff, great wine list.
Have the Seared Scallops! I am not even very fond of scallops but I was wowed! I saw a friend leaving and he told me not to leave without getting the scallops! I am so glad I listened to him. The hazelnut gastrique was sinful but sublime. It is a small portion $14 but we both had that and salads, our favorite salad was the mixed market greens with sliced strawberries, pickled carrots, chevre, almonds and a lovely vinaigrette. I would highly recommend this salad. We also had the Hears of Romaine salad, with bacon blues cheese etc. It was stuning to look at, and quite good but we both favored the Mixed Market Greens.
We had a $10 glass of Cab and loved it - very good value.
This was my second time to VA, Obviously, the first time was very good. The second time, the waitress was slow, her attitude solemn, and all that would have been overlooked if the food was good. I ordered the pork chop, their signature dish, which was outstanding the first time, but tough, poorly seasoned the second time. And, it was a pricey meal. I'd rather eat at Marin Joes
We love Vin Antico for lunch, but the dinner menu is outstanding, too. Our meals were delicious from the salads to the entrees to the desserts. The wine choices are always the best, too. On the evening we dined, the restaurant was lively and fun, but the service was still very good. Our server was attentive.
Vin Antico is a special find. Nestled along fourth street in San Rafael, The food is an unexpected treat. The daily specials are not to be missed and the regular menu changes often, bringing seasonal gems to the table for your enjoyment.
Four of us had dinner for my husband's birthday. Since he is vegetarian we try to look for places that would have options for him. I'm the only one who had been to Vin Antico before and wanted to share this place with him and my friends for this special occasion. However, his seasonal vegetables pasta was okay and according to him, not particularly great because the pasta was overcooked and mushy. The rest of us had pretty good meals. The appetizers and dessert were great and the hostess and waitress were both friendly and spot on...until the end. We arrived at 5:45 pm and leisurely looked over the menu, discussed with our waitress and ordered around 6:15 pm based on her recommendations. We had appetizers, salad, entrees, wine, dessert and coffee. At around 7:20 pm as we were still finishing up our coffee and visiting, the hostess came over and asked us to vacate our table because another party of 4 were waiting for our table at the bar. Didn't know there was a time limit to our table stay. This was embarrassing to my guests. Because of this, I won't be back. The only reason I'm even giving two stars is because the waitress was wonderful.
We had dinner here last week and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The salad with strawberries was quite good as was the risotto. My husband had a delicious meal, a pork chop I believe. There was a slight mixup with our wine, but the server fixed it. The one slight negative is that the tables for two are VERY close together and it was hard to ignore the strange conversation taking place at the table next to ours. Otherwise, we had a very nice evening.
