Vin Antico Ratings and Reviews
Our reserved table was unavailable for 20 minutes after our arrival. Given we had my ten year old with us, we chose not to sit at the bar, which left us hovering in the way of others. The staff did bring a free "nibbly" to make up for the inconvenience. The food, on the whole, was quite good, although our server recommended a dish for my daughter that was far too spicy for a child. She dissuaded us from our first choice saying it was too spicy, and in the end the dish she recommended was hotter. The flavors, though, were good.
They use organic food from local farms, which is a big attraction for me. The menu looked very interesting and creative. They ran out of a crab salad, that I planned to order,so I got greens with squash, goat chees, pommegranats, phistashios, which unfortunately was a bit tastless, lacking dressing.I guess they were just crazy busy, as the place was packed. The gnocchi with wild muchrooms were heavenly! The room is nice and cozy, great atmosphere and service!
The menu sounds very appealing at Vin Antico; but it seems to be let down by poor execution. The fried smelt were too large and had not been cleaned correctly so they were gritty, and our mains were either bland or excessively over-seasoned. Not what I would expect at the price point at all. I love the feel of the restaurant; the decor is really nice and the ambiance is good. Maybe they need to settle on a less ambitious menu.
I was stunned, where have I been? This chef came in Valentine's Day of 2010 and revamped the menu to feature locally-produced ingredients and what a delectable delight! Absolutely fabulous, delicious and creative dishes. This is my new favorite spot. Thank you Chef and thank you Dee, who we met, the wife of the chef, who welcomes you and has some wonderful recommendations. They let us linger and chat and savor our many orders. I have to go back this week to try the other specials before they change.
Overall and good experience. The food was a bit stained, meaning I felt someone was trying too hard to be "unusal and innovative". The result was some odd flavor combinations that, while not bad, did not provide me with the WOW experience. Service as relaxed and very good. Atmosphere was small, so a little cramped, but they did a great job of trying to accommodate my request sent with the reservation for as quiet a table as possible so friends could catch up. I hope the chef settles down, since the food itself was generally well prepared.
The food is decent but the prices are not reasonable. Main courses are about $25 and portions are relatively small. I would expect This from a San Francisco restaurant, but not a Marin restaurant. There are many restaurants with similar menu items for half the price in Marin.
The food was excellent. Everything was flavorful and portioned correctly. Had the frito misto, which had some unusual selections in it that I liked. Pappardelle pasta was delicious. Service was slow - the menus hadn't been printed even though they seated us for lunch. Overall, good experience and I will be back.
The staff is very welcoming and friendly. The service is brisk and attentive.
The food was very uneven. Starters were good - wonderful grilled chicory wrapped dates and a good porkbelly that could have been a tad crisper. But the main dishes were not good. The squid ink pasta was simply awful - thick & chewy with no essence of the squid ink, served in a broth flavored with orange and fennel. It lovely little clams, but also had pieces of sausage so hot, it annihilated all other flavors. The pizza had a tough, greasy crust, topped by pristine ingredients. We left the mains mostly untouched, and our waiter asked if we wanted it wrapped to take home. We said no.
As others have noted, it is cold if you sit by the window - dress warmly
We had a fabulous dinner and the staff were very friendly and efficient. We had a mix up with our reservation (our fault) and they made everything work with nothing but pleasantness. It was MUCH appreciated. We will definitely recommend this restaurant and we will definitely make it one of our favorite spots in Marin.
The flatbread pizza with duck confit was served with pancetta and no duck. When this was pointed out, the waiter said that both were on the pizza, but that was not the case. This is the third time I have experienced substitutions or additions of ingredients not stated on the menu.
Fantastic, local and sustainable food. We had a lovely dinner, starting with oysters, gnocchi in an earthy combination of vegetables, and steak tartare. We loved the small plates options, and all ordered a smaller serving of their yummy house made pastas. The wine that was recommended was fantastic. Our waiter was attentive, and informative. We will definitely be back!
I had a very special meal with a good friend. I asked for a quiet table and I got one. I found the Italian food a little higher in fat and a little fussy for me taste. Don't get me wrong it was very good, just night quite right for someone on the South Beach Diet. Didn't care much for the fried clams strips appetizer, the mache salad was GREAT, (all the salads looked good actually) the main squid ink chitarra with clams and sausage had tiny clams are probably closer to Italy but IMHO they were overwhelmed by the sausage and the sauce overwhelmed the amount of pasta. So I didn't like the "balance" if you will.
The restaurant is very comfortable and inviting, our service was attentive and professional but our food was tepid at best. Flavors were wonderful but both our appetizer and entrees were not properly heated. I so looked forward to our visit and was disappointed. With so many great restaurants in our area we will not be back any time soon and I am sorry to have to say that.
We had reservations for an early dinner after a movie. The restaurant was empty at 5pm but was very busy by 6:30. We all noticed that it was extemely cold in the restaurant and keptcoats on for most of the meal. The Tables are very close together, so it is a bit difficult to get in and out without disturbing the other diners. Mushroom flatbread was delicious, but the crab cakes very disappointing-dry and overly spicy-perhaps we didn't understand that it csme breaded and deep friend. The rabbit and pasta with seafood were both excellent. We would go back but not for the crab cake.
We have followed Chef Ed Vigil ever since we discovered him about 10 years ago. His food is always delicious, interesting and generous. Although he favors local, organic and right-raised ingredients, the dishes are very well-rounded and complete, with something on the menu for everyone. The restaurant has a very clean, stylish feel, while being cozy and comfortable at the same time -- perhaps because of the knowledgeable and attentive wait staff. Vin Antico projects a commitment to wonderful food and pure hospitality that come through in every aspect of its operation...great for a special occasion ... an evening with friends ... or just a treat after a long day.
I would call this place upscale hip. We went on Christmas Day for supper. The atmosphere was really great. The waitress felt that the music was too loud for our party since one was hard of hearing, so she turned it down a little. Really nice! The pizza with duck confit was awesome! Highly recommend.
Vin Antico is going through a transition, to something less than it used to be.
From reasonably priced comfort food, it is now more expensive with some of the serving sizes really small.
The waiter never checked on how the food was, while tasty, the sizes was for the birds -small birds.
