Finally the chickens have come home to roost. We loved this place when it originally opened and then the owner left and went back to Boston and it just went downhill. Now the original concept is back and food is great! Service is spotty and since it was a weekday they probably did not have enough servers.
GREAT FOOD. NICE PEOPLE. QUIET FOR CONVERSATION.
WE WILL BE BACK.
Get rid if the TV.
Always love going to Vin Antico.
Great service and delicious food.
The restaurant was wonderful surprise, as we hadn't been there for a long time. We really the noise level, ie calm and quiet, allowing us to have a conversation without yelling. It's also a great value and lovely ambiance.
I came here to celebrate my birthday having had good meals and service here in the past. We arrived right after the restaurant opened at 5 pm. No other guests were in the restaurant. I requested a particular table set in the corner so that I and my companion could sit next each other as opposed to having to strain to hear each other. The waiter said that he was not allowed to offer that table as it technically seats three guests. I asked when a party of 3 was arriving. He didn't know and fetched the manager who repeated that it was a table for a party of 3. When I asked when the next reservation was for 3 people she hemmed and hawed and checked her reservations and then relented (after we are idly standing in the empty restaurant for nearly 10 minutes). After we were seated the waiter and rude manager continuously rushed us at every stage of the meal. The waiter failed to tell us the specials for the evening. We only found out there were specials when the four ladies seated next to us at 6 pm received the full listing. When we left at approximately 6:20 the restaurant was still less than half full and there was never a party of three. The food was mediocre. The service very poor. The wine was excellent. The bill for two people was well over $200 and I will never be back.
Great food and atmosphere. Not too crowded.
I enjoyed a quiet dinner, wonderful salad and homemade pasta. The service was warm and efficient.
Love Vin Antico and so did our guests. Farm to table with a changing menu that always delights.
This is one of our favorite places for a tasty dinner, friendly and mellow atmosphere (never noisy). They've changed the menu since we were last there, however, and some of our fav dishes are gone--the dayboat scallops in a cauliflower cream pureee, for example.
We were starving when we arrived, and ordered some foccaccia. It took almost as long as dinner to arrive, and though toasted, it was very commercial....something that Safeway might make in their bakeries...without herbs or seasonings, or even salt on top. Service was pleasant but slow. I hope this meal isnt the beginning of a trend.
Our corner seating was perfect for date night! Drinks were great and served in lovely martini glasses. Food was fresh, great temperature, and perfect seasoning. Staff was lovely and we will definitely be coming here again!
Food was good but not outstanding. Wine was very good. Noise increased as the restaurant filled up....became uncomfortably noisy. Convenient location.
We had a wonderful meal and the ambience was fantastic as well as the service. This was our 2nd visit and both times very pleased. We will definitely be back. The manager, Kelly, was very warm, enthusiastic and welcoming.
Lunch, very relaxed, quiet, excellent accommodating service.
Food and service is always great..Thank you
I am a regular and enjoy being at Vin Antico each time
Their hostess is the icing on the cake. They are lucky to have someone so authentically warm and personable. I love GREAT food, great service and great ambiance- but it's the people that really bring you back. This restaurant is the best San Rafael has.
Hostess was lovely and friendly. The one change I would make is to place the TV at the opposite end of the bar. I was disappointed to see a TV in the restaurant though I get it is a nice attraction for singles or casual dining. I just don't go to restaurants to watch, see or hear a TV. If you have to have it make it more subtle please.
Service was good, pleasant atmosphere but the wine pours are embarrassingly small. Supposedly a 5 1/2 ounce pour but the large cup dwarfs the liquid.
Decent food, strongly recommend bringing your own bottle and paying corkage, which we didn't see listed on the menu.
The menu has changed and sadly we thought the quality of the food was not as good as the several other times we have dined here.
Overall great experience. Service was a bit under par with us having to ask for water a couple times.
Thank you for putting the sautéed vegetable bowl back on the menu.
It is so delicious and I order it every time I visit ...
Food was good- it’s always very tasty , this time the service wasn’t.
Waiter did not greet us, simply approached the table and announced the specials- we hadn’t even been offered drinks or water: felt rushed until we ordered then he was inattentive and absent for remainder of meal.
No problem parking at night. Staff is wonderful. Nice place to talk with friends. Good food.
Always healthy and delicious food.
Great service....love having lunch there.
I've been there before and I remember the food being better. The food was okay, but not great. My wife is not a big eater, but left hungry after ordering the Linguini and clams. Our friends did not comment so I assume their food was just okay as well. They are usually quite expressive.
I hadn't been to Vin Antico in years. Excellent experience. Food, wine, ambiance was great. A real local, neighborhood gem.
We found Vin Antico for our first date and have been back many times. The food, wine, and service are consistently excellent.
The food was okay. Everyone was really nice. The prices are high, I needed to add salt to my steak. But it was fine. I don't need to go back soon, but id try it again.
A delightful find right downtown in San Rafael. Beef short ribs were succulently rich and with side of soft polenta was perfect for an early December evening. Warm, cozy, with welcoming young staff. A definite return to place.
Great service....delicious food. Friends who had never been there loved it.
Creative food & mostly tasty food. The service is not always that great.
Food is delicious and very attentive service.
quiet - good for conversation
We returned to our once beloved Vin Antico for the first time since a couple of its recent changes in ownership. Our server tried valiantly, yet his efforts were undermined by his being the only server in evidence. Not only our table but also those around us waited interminably for food, even the foccacio was slow in making an appearance. Evidently the chef that evening was filling in on short notice, which may explain delays and the decidedly indifferent food preparation. The pasta was tasteless and the meatballs were extremely over-spiced. We had opted to give this most recent iteration a try for old times' sake. Hopefully the kinks can be worked out soon. We'll watch for word of more positive experiences before returning.
My friend’s meal had to be sent back because it was burnt. We had to wait an inordinate amount of time while we observed people being served who came after us.
After both of these problems, the only offer was to get dessert on the house( which we declined).
Things have changed! The menu is not as well presented and the choices are not as enticing as the old menu over the past handful of years! We were bummed and taken for surprise. Food was tasty but we didn’t care for the “new look of the menu nor the food options” as compared to what it was over the past handful of years!
Wonderful ambience and friendly staff, but the service was surprisingly inattentive and the food wasn't superb. Not bad – but it felt it was good food cooked plainly, and it made everything feel overpriced. Ultimately disappointing.
Always delicious and wonderful service and ambiance.
Definitely go back as a regular
I planned a little birthday dinner for a friend on a Thursady night. We were all excited to eat here. Server was slllooowww to greet us. They were out of water glasses. Drinks and wine were fine but server didn’t notice when our glassses were empty. Food was fine but not amazing for 3 of us. For the 4th of us, the flank steak with prawns was served with ice cold prawns. Dinner was nearly gone before the server came back to check on us. The manager did remove the flank steak from our check which was appreciated.
Loved the cozy ambiance and always willing to overlook a kitchen mistake and chock it up to an off night, but the sub par service ruined it for us. Bummer.
