Went on a Friday Night and we ordered a ton of food and everything was amazing...should have stopped however the other 2 guys with me wanted to try the ribs and chicken...will definitely be back and Gabe our server was on point the whole time...we had left over beers and i gave to Gabe and the kitchen for the experience ...
Fresh and creative, from light to heavy, classic Mexican fare. Great service. Very enjoyable. Will definitely return when in the area.
I truly cannot say enough good things about Villalobos. The food is out of this world. It's fresh, beyond delicious and so reasonably priced. It's a bring your own and their homemade juices and pina colada slushies make amazing mixers. Hands down number one in my book. Food is truly incredible. Oh and yeah the service and people that work their are funny and super accommodating.
We love this place. Ceviche is great. Tacos are always good. Servers and staff are very friendly and efficient.
Food was very good and our server was terrific!
Music is way too loud. You can't hear others talking next to you.
This is an excellent place with great food and a fun causal vibe.
Food was delicious and service was great. Would definitely recommend and frequent.
Made a reservation for a Monday evening and came from out of town -- to find it closed up tighter than a drum. If they were going to be closed, they should not have taken my reservation.
48 minutes for 4 tacos. Seemed understaffed. Duck enmolada was disappointing. Both guacamoles (traditional and crab) were very good, as were the chips. The tacos were good...not 48 minutes good. Have lots of time and money for a visit here.
Friendly maitre'd. Attentive wait staff. You can tell ingredients are fresh. Homemade hard and soft shell tacos. Best churros with hot fudge sauce I ever had.
Liked this place so much, we came back 2 days later! Highly recommend the Esquites
At the last minute we decided to try this spot having heard that it served creative Mexican cuisine. Got there 30 minutes before the kitchen closed, but were never rushed. Food was delicious. Tried most of the tacos, and they were superb. Pork carnitas mouthwatering-with pork belly. Going back soon to sample the rest of the menu.
Excellent tacos especially the night's special ... scallops. Outstanding guac but salsa was quite average. Very attentive service. This is worth the trip.
The food was flavorful and fresh, service was attentive, well informed and friendly. We will be back.
I love this place, and usually the food is amazing!! They must have been having an off night or the some of the recipes have changed. The Salas's were not particularly good, and the fish Taco which used to be outstanding was dry. No sauce and no flavor. Fish was light and flaky, and the toppings were fresh but it never melded together to become flavorful. The shrimp taco was still fantastic though it had a sauce , and that helped. We had a great time otherwise and the service and ambiance were great. I'll be back, but I'm hoping they can get return to the old standard.
Walked into great greeting. Was seated and attended to immediately with reservation. If you have wider hips you need to ask to be seated along the wall or the chairs will squeeze you.
Dan was our waiter. Very nice...attentive. Cute too.
Traditional guacamole and Crab both good. Needed a bit more seasoning.
Shrimp, fish, and scallop tacos all good and unique.
Lovely atmosphere. Parking lot across the street.
Seems very popular but consistently disappointing. Flavors not very good, food temperatures often off, things seem a bit stale. Given the hype, it should be a lot better. You definitely know you're in Jersey. Not in a good way.
Good was awesome, was the perfect start to our Sunday!! We will be back for sure
Make sure you call ahead to find out what slushie flavors they have. We brought tequila thinking we'd be able to make margaritas and then had to reevaluate our drink decision and make another trip to the liquor store. But still a good dinner option for BYOB
Took my daughter here for her birthday - my first time. Would not call it authentic mexican but really good tex mex. Great selection of tacos that were really tasty and reasonable priced. Also had the traditional guacamole as an appetizer which was expensive $13 but honestly may have been the best guac I've ever had and I had a lot of guac. Fun place to dine for the type of food it serves. Good casual ambiance, attentive service and BYOB - what more could you as for :)
terrific food and great service
Very poor service. Food just meh. I prefer authentic Mexican not this "foo-foo" Mexican.
We have eaten here a few times it's one of our favorites.
Overall we had a good experience but the music was way too loud. I cant remember that being the case. I could barely hear my friend across the table. As always, the food was very good, a bit spicier than usual. The guacamole is always great!
Good was good. Guacamole variety and taste awesome. Need to order a little more than you think at lunch which can get pricey. Needs music.
Great spot in Montclair. The decor is trendy Mexican. Lots of food options. Get the crab guac and chocolate dipped churros!! BYOB.
Nice scene. Creative Mexican cuisine with quick, attentive service. Dining room is loud, but lively. Love the fact that almost the entire menu is "naturally" gluten free and there are interesting vegetable and seafood options—to me this is what sets Villalobos apart from the typical "taco" place. We really enjoyed the food and will be back!
The squash tacos were excellent, although it was VERY noisy.
Great service. Food good too
Creative menu! Our service was great and we really enjoyed our meal!!
Villalobos has changed the menu since I was last there. Making all tacos $6 and fewer choices (which is fine). They've added different kinds of salsas and I believe there is a bundle you can buy as well, guacamole, salsa and a certain number of tacos for a set price. Food quality is very good but I still find it somewhat on the expensive side for the portion sizes.
Had a late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday afternoon during the Montclair Film Festival.
Perfect choice. The food was great and suited the variety of my friends' preferences and palates and the prices were more than reasonable. Great selection and portions were perfect. Came away full, but not too full, and had a lovely mango "slushy" to mix with some tequila we brought to the table.
Very Noisy - although it was busy -- food took 1 hour to arrive - the mixed salad had all sorts of crushed tomato on it - wife did not like it.
guac and salsas are the hit -
This is the forth time I've gone here, so obviously i love it, but the service is really bad. the staff is friendly but every time ive gone there there is something wrong w/ the service. this time, the server never put our appetizer in so our main course came first. now again the staff is so nice and they comped our app, but still. another time, we were so desperate for service some bus boy took mercy on us and took our order.
i wish they would train their staff better because other than poor service the place is really good.
I went on a Wednesday evening with a girlfriend, and it got pretty crowded after 7:30. Reservations are probably a good idea no matter what day you're going.
The servers were on point with knowing their menu and what could and couldn't be done as far as substitutions. The server gave the impression that perhaps the chef would be offended by my request to leave the salsa on the side of the nachos when I asked (i'm not into soggy nachos), but they did it for us anyway. My friend and I received excellent service. The server was attentive without being invasive or rushing.
The food is creative and yummy. I had a shrimp taco, and my friend had one with chicken. Both delicious. The churro with chocolate sauce is indeed delicious.
The food is small, so you have to order a lot of things if you come hungry. Spending over $80 on a two tacos, nachos, and a shared churro for dessert seems excessive to me when you consider it was a BYOB and there were no drinks to pay for. I leave this comment for people concerned about the cost of an evening out. It obviously costs more money for their superior quality ingredients and attentive service.
Overall, it's a great restaurant. Yummy, creative, inspired food with great service. I'll just say it's not for people on a budget.
Delicious modern approach ro mexican food!!
Villalobos has 4 options for fresh guacamole. We had the Jonah Crab, which was delicious. As with nearly every restaurant ever, they dole out tortilla chips in annoyingly small quantities, so ask for extra up front otherwise you'll wait for the sparse and seemingly disinterested waitstaff to notice you again.
My Wife had a delicious black sea base entree and I loved the duck enchilada appetizer and the beet and arugula salad. Pretty good value, especially since it's BYOB.
Definitely worth trying.
A nice chic little place. Food was good as was the service. Menu could be a little expanded though. The chairs were as uncomfortable as it gets. That may influence my decision to go back.
Great tacos ! Always a good go to place
