Villaggio Grille at the Wharf Ratings and Reviews
Very good service and ambiance but food and drinks were disappointing. Wahoo special was overcooked and dry. I ordered it medium, but it came well done. Martini was watered down. Was charged $12.50 for a call brand but might as well have gotten the house brand.
We went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The atmosphere was great as usual. The server was friendly, but not really on her game. We ordered drinks, then appetizers/salads. A little later, we ordered our entrees. We weren’t nearly halfway finished our salads and appetizers when the entrees came out. We felt really rushed and the restaurant was not even full. Most of what we ordered was good as usual, except the crab bruschetta was just a pile of cold crab on top of a warm tomato on toast; lacked seasoning/flavor. Two in our party ordered the Seafood pasta, which had such a thick sauce, was difficult to eat. We’ve been to Villagio many times and have to say we were quite disappointed with this experience.
Sat for 10 min before a server came by. No interduction. No one asked what brought us since it was very obviously we were not from the area. Took 3 visit from the server and us asking what her name was before she perked up but only for that conversation. Only other time patty was excited about coming to the table was when she dropped off the bill.
Food was good, tasty, creative but with the service the way it was not sure if I will return. We are here for a 13 days
We had a 7pm reservation on open table. We were told because we did not specify that we wanted a booth or window seat we were sat at this awkward high top by the waiter service area. My husband and I choose to ignore it after being told many times there was no other available seats for them to reseat us at. The waitress was super sweet and the food was great. I do think I remember reading that well house wines were $4.50 and I was charged $6 per glass. In general, lessons learned. Make sure to specify that you don’t want an awkward high top in the comments of your open table reservation.
I had high expectations due to the reviews. I ordered a filet that came out rather quick. However the mashed potatoes were cold and the steak was under done. The cheese and meat plate had two cheese that were pretty small for $18 and nothing exciting. We were not even told what was on it. It turned out to be a Gouda ( smoked) and a pineapple cheese (which was decent). My wife like her salad. They are known i guess for there wine however again I ordered a glass of red which came out extremely warm. I would not go back again as it was expensive and the food was not worth the cost.
Our group of 8 was looking for a nice dinner on our last night in Orange Beach. Jackpot! Everyone enjoyed their dinner, even the person who ordered a medium well steak that came medium rare (she should have sent it back). I had the special grouper with grits, and boyfriend had a steak with crab... both were delicious!! Also had to have some broiled oysters that were excellent. Travis was very helpful with menu selections and put up with our somewhat loud antics...luckily the place was not crowded on a Sunday evening. Ask for Travis!! Would definitely recommend Villaggio!!!
We dine here fairly often because we enjoy it, but Saturday night was not up to par. Service was good, but almost too quick. Plates were picked up as soon as one of us finished. The bill arrived almost before I took my last bite. Most disappointing, however, was the seafood pasta. Usually one of my favorites, it was oily and had very little taste to it. Too bad. I would now hesitate to order it again.
Visited Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area and was looking for something a bit nicer and less chain/standard. Villagio Grille was an awesome choice. Right near the wharf, great views and shopping. The brown butter grouper was excellent and my husband had a shrimp and risotto dish, equally good. Skip the dessert--nothing special or unique and definitely not made by the restaurant.
We've eaten at the Villaggio Grille many times and the folks there continue to come up with great food in unique ways. This time, four of us got together for a super meal...with really good service. I have to tell you about my swordfish dinner. The fish was cooked perfectly but it was the sides that really were pleasing. The dish included grilled cantaloupe...something I'd never had but will have again...and squash blossoms stuffed with cream cheese and strawberries... so very different but so very good. All in all, we enjoyed a great evening of delicious food at the Villaggio Grille!
If you have the ability to have Marshall as your waiter I highly encourage you to do so. Even with reservation we were sat outside in the rain at first and then moved to the private dining room which is where we met Marshall. From beginning to end he made sure we had all we needed to enjoy our meal.
Date night while on vacation. Made a reservation online was was sat immediately upon arrival. Greeted right away by our server. Drinks were a little pricey for cocktails but were tasty. Nice variety of foods offered. Service was quick and professional. Everything was delicious including dessert. Would definitely return again.
The food was very good here. Even the waiter was very good. It was the total lack of concern by the management (Amber) which concerned us.
We ordered some oysters as an appetizer. After waiting some time, our waiter came back to inform us that they had no oysters because Kenny Chesney was in town (not sure why, but that is what he told us). He went to the manager to see what they could offer us as a replacement for free to apologize for the inconvenience. The waiter came back and said Amber said there was nothing they could do (and apparently when she said “nothing” she meant it. No replacement appetizer, no apology, nothing). She never came by to even check on us. Even though the food was good, management’s total lack of concern for us is why we will never go back.
Having looked forward to a meal here, we were disappointed especially have very early (5:15)reservations for 4 on what we knew would be a busy pre-concert night. Without going into detail we struggle with service through the entire meal, and the food seemed bland and unseasoned (brown butter grouper and the scallop salad). Not sure we'll go back, but we would like to try it again.
