I had the Bifteki Yemitsa. My wife had the Moussaka. Both excellent, flavorful, and good-sized portions. Had a nice bottle of Greek wine. We also very much enjoyed the Eggplant spread and Stuffed Grape Leaves appetizers. It really was a pleasure. I highly recommend Village Taverna, a new top choice in the city for me!

Village Taverna is a consistently excellent restaurant. The food, service, and ambience are always great. We have been there many times and it has become one of our favorite NYC restaurants. We come from the Upper East Side to the Village to eat there. Go and enjoy!

The noise level was a problem. Difficult to hear my dinner companions. A complimentary birthday dessert would have gone a long way; a candle fell short. Penny wise, dollar foolish? Food not as good as usual. A bit off. Increased prices should reflect with quality. Perhaps an off day?

I was at the restaurant pre-COVID and the food and service were excellent. Unfortunately that has changed. The service was not good. Clearly they are understaffed and cannot handle all the additional outdoor tables. The outdoor setup is very nice and well decorated. The food was subpar. Nothing was hot and tasted reheated or like it was sitting around. Again it’s apparent the kitchen cannot handle all the additional outdoor tables. Very disappointed

A favorite in the neighborhood. Staff is friendly. Service is very good; most attentive. A lively and fun atmosphere-inside or outside. I’ve eaten here many times and will continue. The food is very good. Only observation on food-it’s not always consistent. With prices on the rise, I’m concerned when ordering my favorite (the Grilled Octopus-now $27. ) could be overcooked or less tender. An expensive app not to be great. So was the ( unusual) case tonight. Also had their special boneless chicken. Wonderful flavors and spices. And a Watermelon, Arugula & Feta Salad. It’s one of their best.

Oven was broken. When called earlier, this was not brought up. Was out of a lot of food. Unfortunately employee who helped us was still learning English, so was unable to efficiently communicate at the time. Was SO hot sitting outside in the patio, fans did nothing and they said we couldn’t turn them. It was 81° outside. Not a pleasant dining experience this time around unfortunately.

This neighborhood gem has gotten better and better with age. I wasn't too impressed when they first opened, but now it delivers deliciously every time. Portions are generous, the lemon potatoes are heaven and the watermelon salad is a summer delight. Friendly service completes the picture and the outdoor setup is most attractive.

I've dined at Village Taverna many times and have always really enjoyed their food and service. However, I've never ordered takeout at this establishment and must say it left a lot to be desired. I ordered a chopped salad with octopus for take out and when I got home, I was really disappointed and upset to see the paltry pathetic portion of octopus they charged me for $16. It was definitely not the pictures you see posted online. It was one let/tentacle and not worth the price they charged. I may come back to dine in person, but will never order takeaway from them again.

When my job was near Village Taverna, I had lunch there often and sometimes met friends for dinner in the evening. I live too far away to go there often, and I miss the place. Staff members are pleasant and helpful. The food is wonderful. The seating is comfortable.

This is a neighborhood gem that's also worth traveling to. Great, fresh fish dishes, done with Greek flair. Other great Greek delicacies too, including moussaka and spanakopita. Also, wonderfully fresh, tasty, inventive salads. And the service is wonderful too.

Such a friendly place. No rushing you out the door. 2 of us had the “special “ chicken, which is the best chicken you’ll ever eat; the other 2 had chopped salad which is fantastic, I took an order of the salad home at the end of the meal. Tables not too close, charming wait staff, lovely outdoor dining available. Highly recommend.

Village Taverna is one of my favorite restaurants in the city--with great food, great staff, two great outside dining areas on beautiful University Place. There's a secret ingredient that makes everything absolutely delicious: a lemony, light, yet complex addition to fish, chicken, rice, potatoes, even hamburgers. Also they have a terrific white, red, and rose wine by the glass. I highly recommend this restaurant.
