Village Tavern (Hanes Mall Blvd) Winston-Salem
Always an enjoyable, pleasant dining experience. A very broad menu to choose from.
We quit going to this restaurant several years ago because the service was horrible. Went there for a birthday lucheon 2 months ago and the service was much improved.
This visit was for a birthday dinner, food and service were excellent. The only complaint I have is that the bottled wine prices are 4 times the store prices which in my opinion is excessive.
We love the Village Tavern but our meal the other night was just ok. I ordered prime rib; medium rare; it came out closer to medium but the flavor was very good so I did not complain. My wife ordered the fish and chips and the fish was too done; almost dry. We sent that back but the second attempt was only marginally better. We left somewhat disappointed. That said, we’ve eaten there dozens of times so we’ll be back.
Tried the salmon lunch special but prefer the usual on the menu. The special had a barbecue like sauce that didn’t work that well for me. My husband loved the chicken quesadilla that was customized to suit him. The service is always very good. Love the atmosphere and spacious seating.
The food was good but the service was unusually slow. It took quite a while to get our water and drinks.
Our waitress was excellent. Good food.
Even though they never acknowledged our reservations in Open Table it was all good as usual.
We were there on a very busy Sunday evening with a 6:30 reservation and had short wait at the bar. Overall the service was good although the restaurant seemed a little short-handed. We had simple entrees (crab cakes, fish and chips, salads), which were well prepared. The calamari appetizer was excellent. The wine list was adequate with a reasonable price range. We could have skipped dessert. We prefer the Reynolda location but we enjoyed the energy level and food.
Our burgers were perfectly prepared. Absolutely delicious. The house made chips were good but not hot at all but still tasty with ranch dressing.
Overall a great visit!
I went to dinner with friends. I had the bacon jam cheeseburger. It was ok. Not really anything special. Could have used more bacon jam and fewer onions, but it was ok. I had sweet potato fries as my side. They were coated with cinnamon sugar which was interesting but could have used some salt to add more interest than just sweet. I took home a piece of the Godiva torte for dessert, and truthfully, I was really looking forward to it but it was dry, crumbly, and pretty tasteless.
We had a great dinner here and enjoyed ourselves. Great meatballs and super burgers.
This was the best dining experience we have had in years. The food is excellent from cocktails to dessert. The service as superb and the ambiance was cozy and welcoming.
Always a great place to receive consistently good service and great tasting food!
The food was average but the service was horrible. Entrees arrived before the appetizers and one soup appetizer did not arrive until everyone had finished their meals. In addition, the soup was cold so it must had stood undelivered for at least 30 minutes.
Food was excellent! Crab dip was appetizer special, well worth it. Service was spot on. Definitely will be back.
It was my birthday, they were very slow with bringing the food out
Good as always
Everything was excellent as always. Their Butter Cake is a bit of heaven on a plate!
The trout was delicious and tender. The waitress was great and on target for any needs we had. Great evening!
Food service and atmosphere are always great at Village Tavern. It was a bit loud, but that just means that people are enjoying themselves.
As always, the most consistent restaurant and menu in Winston-Salem. Our waiter was Ernest, and he is amazing.
It was an awesome space to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Our server was sweet as pie and provided excellent recommendations (crab dip and crab cakes). Additionally, we were able to have great conversations and laughter without loud music or other patrons’ conversation intruding our table.
Very cordial Asian waitress - and she was very nice. Food was good - hot and fast
Best place in town to eat. We have been going there for years!
Great food, great service.
They need to find a way to handle the crowd at the front waiting to be seated. Very crowded.
Very pleasant experience overall. A small mistake made on my daughters dinner order but it was corrected very quickly by our server and kitchen.
I would highly recommend Village Tavern for great service and excellent food.
It’s not a quiet place however servers very friendly
The meal was awesome! We had previously ate at an expensive steak house in Salisbury which we did not enjoy. We will definitely be coming more often. The food and service was awesome.
Not the place for a nice, quiet dinner. We were there to celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with our kids. We noted it on our reservation. When we showed up we were greeted very coldly. We said that we were here for our 6:30pm reservation and then she handed a plastic buzzer and told that it would be a few minutes, they were getting our table ready. Never acknowledged our anniversary. We asked for a “romantic” (quiet) area but were seated in the middle of a packed restaurant. Service was adequate but nothing special for sure. I’m quite sure our server was having a bad night and I tried to be understanding. Unfortunately it happened to us. Food was great however there was a large eyelash/beard hair in my green beans. Luckily they came on a separate plate so I did not eat them. I did not say anything because I did not want my wife to know about it and ruin the night. Also, Wednesday must be live music night. Even though it was outside on the porch it sure raised the decibel level. I am happy go go back for a normal, every day lunch/dinner but not for a special occasion. I still think that this is some of the best food in the area.
The restaurant has a great reputation as an upper end steak house. My experience was OK, but next time I need a restaurant steak I’ll go to Longhorn, or for fish, Red Lobster.
Great menu— best desserts in town and best grits in the state!
Great food, great service from Karlee!! Everything VT is know for!!
Great food and experience as always.
One of our favorite places to eat. Food is always great, service is always great, martinis are wonderful and so are my husband's old fashions- one of his favorite place to order one. Highly recommend this place to everyone!
Made a reservation for 6:15, upon arriving at 6:10 we were immediately seated and greeted with our server. Service was fast, especially for a restaurant that makes everything from scratch. All of the appetizers were delicious and the main courses were the same, except for the glazed salmon. The only issue we had was that when the order of glazed salmon arrived, it literally looked like the BBQ sauce was just poured over a piece of cooked salmon, definitely not glazed. Other than that, a fantastic experience.
The noise level in the back dining area was almost unbearable. There were two tables that each had small children and it was too much in the small area in which we were seated and conversation was impossible even though we were reuniting with old friends. Our waiter had much difficulty remembering things that he had just said, not sure what was up with that, but otherwise he was attentive. The food was great and served timely, although the crab dip appetizer seemed to be watered down as it was very thin with little crab. The entrees were enjoyed by everyone and I heard no complaints. We were using a gift card that had apparently expired 6 months from the issue date which we were unaware of as we hadn't opened the envelope, however the manager was gracious enough to let us use the card anyway and that was a nice gesture. I will return to VT, but probably not with the intentions of an evening out with friends as the atmosphere just wasn't conducive to conversation, at least not in the room that we were seated in.
Great food, nice atmosphere. Service was good and timed appropriately.
Normally, I would give VT 5 stars across the board; but after scheduling my reservation on Open Table with special instructions for a patio table, and arriving to a full patio and being offered an inside table instead I have to lower my rating. I asked if they look at the instructions in their reservations and never got a straight answer. That answer is most obviously "no." A table was coming available soon, so I was fine with a brief wait. That is until they gave away my table and then offered me an inside table AGAIN two more times. I was about to lose it! And the male host kept referring to "my wife arriving," and each time I would gently correct him that they were my friend and not my spouse. The seating experience was a disaster, but fortunately we ended up with a nice table on the patio and had great service and wonderful food.
