Disappointed there was no draft beer available. On a Saturday night that is not a very good thing. My Husband was not pleased. This has happened before @ The Village Tavern also with this restaurant.
Food was not as good as it usually is. My Cobb Salad was a simple mix of standard ingredients, part of a good Cobb is keeping ingredients distinct. Cocktails ok.
Second visit in a row that we’ve experienced an issue with the food. Calamari was outstanding but my chicken Caesar salad was super slimy and chicken was a tad undercooked, took one bite and was done.
We had 6:30pm reservations and did not get seated until 7:05 despite there being several tables open. Twice we asked to be seated at a booth and were escorted to a table even though several booths were available nearby. We complained and got the booth. The hostess was frazzled and things appeared out of control at the hostess stand. Once we were seated, the menu was basic and unimaginative. We received our food & it was fair but not up to the caliber one would expect from a restaurant located in the South Park neighborhood. Our recommendation is dine at your own risk but there are many other better places nearby.
We normally love Village Tavern but had a disappointing experience on Friday night. Reservation for 8:45 but didn’t get seated until close to 9pm. Hostess gave no indication when I checked in at 8:35 how long it would be until table was ready. After being seated our server brought our waters promptly but then got a 6 top table in her section. She verbally said to the hostess loud enough for us to hear “I hope this table isn’t going to be mine...I’m trying to get out of here!” Then she disappeared for 15 minutes. I didn’t see her anywhere or any other servers who’s attention I could get so I finally had to get up from the table and search for her. I didn’t find her anywhere so asked the hostess to retrieve her for us. A few minutes later she came with our drinks and claimed that she was waiting for the drinks to be made and that the bartender had been backed up and that’s what took her so long. I don’t think this is true because when searching for her I didn’t find her waiting for our drinks at the bar. However, if this was the case she could have come back to get our food order in the mean time (typically what we experience at other restaurants). After delivering our drinks she took our order. While taking our order her cell phone audibly went off...loud enough to where it was difficult to place my order and she was clearly distraught. She pretended like it didn’t happen. She did not apologize. After that things improved and we received our food quickly. Just honestly a disappointing experience for a restaurant in a competitive area like South Park.
Love this place!
Everything was great
Food was tremendous! Service is something to improve on
service great(Camille awesome server)
Manager great...we had a awesome time.. definitely going back
Grooper Florentine was excellent. The second time I have ordered it.
First time dining here! Simply awesome all around! Food was exquisite and our server, Camille, was the best we have had at any restaurant since arriving in Charlotte 4 months ago (and we eat out 2-3 times every week). Can’t wait to return again soon and try something new off the menu. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
My birthday Everything was amazing from the time we came in to the time we left the food the ambience everything we couldn’t ask for a better time The staff was greatMy compliments to the chef
Had a great lunch after receiving a coupon in the mail figured we’d give it a try and it was packed! Good food and prompt service. Will return
Always a great choice, absolutely no disappointments on the menu, and the service is consistently excellent!
I’ve been patronizing Village Tavern for over twenty five years and have had good service, food and experience.
It had been some time since last dining at Village Tavern. It was very busy but with our Open Table reservation we got in very close to our time. The food and service were good. We will be dining here again in the future.
Great service wonderful food
The wait for food is extraordinarily long. It should not take 35 minutes to get a salad and burger.
The food was ok and so was the service and ambience
We had a great meal tonight! Service was excellent!
I made reservations for brunch on Sunday and yet had to wait 15 minutes for a table. What happened? Second, I was entertaining friends from out of town, one requested an expresso. "No the machine is broken," says the waiter. What happened? Third, When the food did arrive my meal was STONE ICE COLD. Not warm, not lukewarm, COLD. Eggs Benedict are not to be served cold. When I told the waiter he said, "Do you want them reheated or another dish?" What? Reheated are you kidding me? The entire experience was so disappointing. What happened to this restaurant? I wasted my time and my money.
Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience with us. I am embarrassed that we obviously did not live up to the standards we strive to hold ourselves to, my deepest apologies for our lack of service and good food. If you can, I wold love to personally talk to you about this and make an attempt to right this wrong. Please feel free to contact me at the restaurant at your convenience to discuss. Thank you again for your time. JP Swanson General Manager 704.552.9983
Food and service was outstanding. Highly recommend
My husband and I were celebrating Valentine’s Day. The ambiance , the food and the service was excellent. We will come back.
I’m still thinking about the desert. The butter cake was awesome!
Loved it! Valentine’s Day dinner. Service was great!
I took my girlfriend there for Valentine’s Day. From the moment we got in to when we left the service was exceptional. The food was fresh and given to us quickly. We have already made agreements to go back.
Very good service and the food was excellent. It was a little slow to our table due to a large group that was serviced just prior to our order.
Ordering the 8 oz Filet Med Well proved challenging for the kitchen. Came out Med Rare. Sent back and not much improvement; sent back again and inside was ok, outside a bit charred. Good news was we were not charged for the entree.
Hostess and our server (Hannah) were both excellent. Hannah was very attentive on a night when the restaurant was full and apologized profusely for the difficulty with the steak.
Other entree, Cajun Seafood Linguine, was very tasty and the spinach salads were excellent!
All things considered, an enjoyable evening!
Great attention to detail. Great food & drinks. Thanks for a lovely evening
I was super impressed with service-both our server (new trainee-Alicia I believe) & hostess were amazing. My margaritas from bar were outstanding. French onion soup-very good. Caesar salad-dressing way too fishy. I realize there are anchovies but it was very overpowering. I also felt hot crab dip was overpowering on a fish level. I realize it's fish but I have had dip that wasn't so slap you in the face with fish taste. Deviled eggs were good but VERY over powering with cheese. Subtlety not a strong suit here. Boyfriend had chicken and waffles were ok.
Great for a date night or dinner with friends, this charming restaurant consistently pleases. The menu, which includes something for everyone, and the drink specials are definitely incentives to make this your go-to dining place. I would not bring young children who cannot maintain themselves at the table without getting restless as service, although very efficient, is not rushed, and dinner takes an appropriate amount of time to create an enjoyable experience.
Great salad menu, my friend thought the chicken salad sandwich was nice and hearty. Make a reservation even for lunch - it can be busy!
It was a great experience for brunch with my family! We will definitely be back!!!!
I'm slightly disappointed about my dining at Village Tavern. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary. We were very excited to be visiting Village Tavern from looking at the menu especially after the rough weekend we were having. We started the day off with having car troubles so we were going to be late for our reservation. I called to see if we can move our reservation from 7:30 to around 7:40 due to our car troubles. The host that I spoke with on the phone did mention they were busy and couldn't move the reservation, however, they had a 15 minute grace period so, if we made it in the time period we would be able to be sat. Since I used to work in Food and Bev, I completely understood the matter and we got there as quickly as we could. We got to the area where the restaurant was, however, couldn't really find the restaurant in the plaza so, I called the restaurant explaining to the hostess the situation and that we were just trying to locate the restaurant. I asked where the restaurant was located and got an answer, but was immediately answered back with "If you don't have a reservation there is an hour wait." I explained we did have a reservation and was just trying to get a better idea of where the restaurant was because we were walking around clueless. The hostess then proceeded to say, "If you did not get to the restaurant in 5 minutes, her manager would be removing our reservation." At this point, I was furious because we obviously knew we were late and were really just trying to figure out where the restaurant was! We got in the door at 7:45 and I told the hostess the reservation name and she stated that "You must have run over here to get here for your reservation." I wasn't too fond of this comment since I was just trying to get to my table and eat at this point. Service was slightly slow which I get since they were busy. Fish and chips were rubbery/frozen tasting and got our appetizer and two minutes later our entrees. Big pet peeve. :(
I thought overall this was a very nice restaurant that would be suitable for multiple occasions. Food tasted FABULOUS! My only complaint was the sauce on my seafood pasta dish was a little watery and easily made a splash. The seafood was delicious/the scallops especially nicely prepared; I would have just preferred the sauce be a little thicker to make less of a mess. Overall, good value for my money. I will go back!
There was 6 of us who thoroughly enjoyed the meal and experience at the Village Tavern! The steaks were prepared as ordered. Best fillet I have had in years. The french onion soup was marvelous. Green beans tasted awesome, would have preferred that they were cooked a shorter length of time. We all agreed to go back to the VT.
The food is always good here. I came for brunch for the first time and tried the Huevos Rancheros. It was good, however it wasn’t hot and I think it would’ve been better had it not been Luke warm (at best...borderline cool in temperature.
