Server was a smoker and it was noticible and somewhat offensive the only saving grace was she hadn't tried to mask if with some noxious floral spray.
Evident that she'd been out for a not so swift cigarette break while our food sat out on the counter cooling.
Other than tepid main course and aforementioned odour everything else was as expected.
We had a fun time! Drinks and app at the bar and then had a reservation for dinner.
I went for prom and it was amazing. I got the chicken Marsala (with mashed potatoes and green beans), for those of you that like mushrooms. The service was great and very fancy feel to it! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for upscale restaurant.
Food was DELICIOUS. It was prom night so the restaurant was pretty loud.
The food was marginal, service was great. The restaurant was loud. Will most likely not go again. But I will admit I’m a food snob.
It had been a while since visiting the Tavern and I have to say it was very enjoyable. The spinach dip was nothing to write home about but the prime rib was tender, flavorful and cooked just right. Our service was also exceptional.
I eat here often and it is always good. Today we had a party of six and were seated at a big round table. There are multiple big round tables in a row and they are too close together. The server for my table and the table to my back kept squeezing through and I was bumped too many times. Will never sit at those tables again unless they take one out.
A solid choice for pub food. We had salads and flatbreads all of which were well done. Nothing exceptional, but very solid. Service was excellent.
As always, excellent!
Brunch was great. Didn’t even know they had it until I was booking through opentable
Wonderful food and spectacular menu. Service is always top notch. One of our favorite spots in Birmingham.
We like the Village Tavern- It's a destination for my wife and I whether we're with the kids, or having a "date night"- The latter was the case last week, as I took my wife out for her birthday- I had reservations, and despite a very large crowd, they sat us immediately- We ordered our appetizers, including the blackened shrimp (very good)- Our waitress was attentive, and took our entree orders a short time after putting in our appetizer orders- We both ordered the prime rib, one of their signature dishes- We were very surprised when just a few minutes after ordering our entrees they were brought out to us (before the appetizers and my wife's salad)- I told my wife I couldn't recall ever being served too quickly- Obviously, our orders did not need to be prepared, aside from plating- Our waitress seemed surprised too, and she apologized- She offered to "comp" one of the appetizers- A short while later, the manager said she'd been notified of the incident, and said she would "comp" both appetizers- This was an appropriate resolution, as we were not able to enjoy the warm appetizers, and eat our entrees warm (my prime rib was room temp, but still very good)- They also failed to bring my wife's hosreradish sauce that she requested with her prime rib- Most of our experiences have been good, and I expect to go back to the Village Tavern, despite them being a little discombobulated on this particular evening-
Prom group enjoyed the ambiance and food.
I took my wife there to celebrate her birthday and our wedding anniversary at lunch time. The food selection was great and delicious. Our waitress was new, but very friendly and professional.
Went here for Easter Sunday Brunch, food was delicious and service was excellent.
The food was excellent. The restaurant was a little noisy, but it was crowded for Easter brunch.
It's always a treat to dine at The Tavern. We had a reservation and were escorted to our table almost immediately upon arrival. Service was quick, friendly, and helpful; and the food, s always, was excellent.
It's hard to hear your family speak over the din here, but the French toast is fantastic.
Wonderful Easter brunch! Always a superior experience
very good experience with friends, loved the menu and a great wait staff
Waiter Johnathan was amazing
This was our third time eating at Village Tavern and it has been consistently good. We haven’t eaten anything here that we didn’t thoroughly enjoy. The Baked Brie was so good and you won’t be disappointed with any of their desserts.
We sat outside which was very nice. Our waitress was not around much. When we got our food, the asparagus was COLD, the potatoes were warm and the steak was warm. We told the waitress it was cold so she went and got us more asparagus. It was warm and tasteless.... no flavor at all.
We spent $100 and we were very disappointed. I felt it was a waste of money. I will not recommend or return to Village Tavern
My boyfriend and I made a reservation about a week in advance for our anniversary, and I’m glad we did! We were seated upon arrival, plus our waitress had water ready for us within minutes of being seated. I had two cocktails that were strong and tasty. I got the Brick Chicken and it was fantastic. Boyfriend got the Chicken Parm which was sub par.
Really enjoyed this restaurant! Steak au Poivre and Hemingway Grouper were outstanding as was the Caprese Salad. Half price wine Wednesday was a nice surprise! Great wait staff!
Anniversary dinner and the manager brought us two glasses of complimentary champagne. A nice touch!
Sunday Lunch with family, one burger ordered was over cooked, but another was just right! The Cobb salad was amazing and the French onion soup is always great. A little noisy so not the best place to try an catch up, but other than that the Village Tavern is pretty good!!
Little disappointed. We ordered the special & were told it was the rib eye with 2 sides but blackened with blue cheese topping for $28.
Steak was good. Broccoli was cold. Sent it back & was slightly warmer but still had a few cold bites. Garlic mashed potatoes were barely warm & not so garlicy. Portions were large.
Deserts were amazing & huge! I got the chocolate torte & husband got enormous 2 layer cheesecake.
Had to wait for refills on water twice.
Doubt we’ll go back.
Food was wonderful. Great service manager was so nice to take off the birthday 10$ even though I couldn’t find the email excellent all around.
The Oscar I had was phenomenal! Cooked perfectly & the flash seared calamari w the peanut sauce was just too good.
My husband I sooooo enjoy the Village Tavern! Sunday was our "after church" brunch with friends coming from Pelham and Trussville. Going through Open Table for reservations was a breeze. And there was no waiting. The acoustics could be better but it was never so loud that you couldn't comfortably talk across the table. We've never had a bad meal there no matter what time of day it is. If you've never had the French toast from VT, you don't know what you're missing. Or the eggs Benedict! The servings are more than ample and if you go away hungry.......it's your own fault!
Food was delicious-service a little slow but overall a good experience!
This was our first trip to The Village Tavern. I had the Colorado Chicken and the taste was amazingly good, my wife had the filet mignon and said it was good to perfection, cooked perfect, very tender and the favor was perfect. This was our first trip but it will not be our last trip.
Nice atmosphere in dinning area, able to carry on a quiet conversation. Entire meal very well done. Plan to return
Great food and service for our lunch. Keep up the good work.
I have loved everything that I have had there except for the Fish and Chips. The fish batter was soggy . I would not order that entrée again.
Server made the entire birthday and family celebration awful. We saw her maybe three times and spent about 2 1/2 hours there, mostly waiting on service or food. I felt as though she was new.
They were definitely understaffed on Sunday the 11th. Several tables were sitting empty while numerous patrons had an extended wait for a table; apparently, they didn't have enough servers to cover all of the tables. Even after much of the brunch crowd was gone and MANY tables were sitting empty, the service was incredibly slow and disorganized.
The food was good, as it always is.
We always love the Village Tavern. Service and food are excellent.
Visit with my kids
