Village Tavern Birmingham Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointed in village tavern on this visit. We have been patronizing this restaurant for years and it was always excellent until the past six months. Not sure if it is under new management or some other change. We had a reservation for dinner. Upon arrival we checked in and were told our table would be ready momentarily. Ten minutes past our reservation time I went back to the desk and reminded them we had a reservation. The same host seemed unsure what was going on and had not even pursued finding us a table. Once at our table, an employee came and told us she needed our empty chair even though it was holding our coats and purses. The food took an hour to arrive. Half of it was cold. Our waiter provided no explanation. The restrooms were dirty and out of paper towels. This restaurant will no longer be on our list.
The service and food--both excellent. This was a birthday dinner for my husband. I called ahead of time to ask that a birthday dessert be brought to the table at the end of the meal. I was told my server would be informed. Dessert never came. The reason called early was so that I didn't have to leave the table and ask that the server bring the desert. I was very disappointed.
The Village Tavern is pretty much my favorite restaurant in Birmingham. The reason I gave four stars instead of five is because: 1) When we made the reservation, we requested a quiet booth. We were seated in a booth, but it was next to family with a young child who would jump up and down on their booth seat and it shook our seat. That was not the quiet seating I requested!
2) All the food was excellent except I ordered the sweet potato fries (which I love!) and when the waitstaff brought them out, they were barely warm. I was very disappointed in not having the hot and crisp fries I should have gotten and barely ate any. I didn't say anything since it was a business meeting and I wasn't comfortable in that setting. My feeling is the waitstaff should check to make sure things are correct before serving the food.
But I still love the Tavern!
The food was fantastic. Definitely a good deal for the price range. The service and atmosphere could have been a little bit better but you can’t control how some customers act to other people. The inside of the restaurant was fairly loud but the outside dining was a good choice for a quieter environment
My daughters and I had made The Village Tavern our regular brunch place; we're Sunday brunch-goers. From here on out, though, we'll be going somewhere else.
When we first started visiting the Village Tavern, the food was always good and service was friendly and efficient. The last several times we've been, the food has been delivered cold, or the orders were incorrect (I'm not sure why it's a badge of honor for servers to try to remember orders without writing them down; I'd so much rather they be written down and gotten right), or we weren't given silverware after asking several times, or the food took a long time to arrive. My last sandwich was so bad it was nearly inedible. This makes me sad because we thought we'd found a brunch place to settle for a long time to come. We're looking for a new place now, as being served the food we ordered and having it be hot and fresh is important to us. Brunch is our only eat-out opportunity together, and it was a bummer to have it spoiled, not just once, but several times in a row now.
