I really wanted to like it, nice atmosphere and good service. But the food did not taste good. Had to remake one of the dishes since it was not made as requested, another egg dish with a Mexican twist was more like a liquid soup, not visibly presentable and did not taste good.
The staff was friendly, the food was good, but not stellar. I feel that the menu needs better options specific to the region of Napa. The prices were a bit steep for food that was average. I went on a Saturday night and I was surprised how empty it was. I’ve dined there before and it seems as the restaurant is becoming less and less popular.
Well, checking in for our reservation I was aptly greeted with “outdoor tables are first come first serve” and that we couldn’t be seated for our reservation. We were then offered an inside table which we reluctantly accepted.
Our waitress seemed like this was her first job. Between the unpleasant demeanor, lack of attention to detail, and every question being an inconvenience, it truly made our experience magical (sarcasm). The food came out with the eggs barely warm, getting that nice sat on the counter golden yellow that we all enjoy.
Overall, the experience was terrible.
It appear that they block cell phone reception inside the restaurant as there was an important call that went to voicemail.
The only problem we haatted was when we ordered lattes and our waiter told us they didn't have any milk to make the lattes.
I am expecting to get 100 point right ? I do not show the credit ?
The food and craft cocktails are amazing. We had great service and accommodations. The bread they served before dinner was delicious. Wonderful experience here!
Came here for lunch with out of town friends. Excellent food and location. We ordered egg Benedict with crab cake, shrimp Louie salad, steak banh mi and chicken salad. Each dish is delicious and beautifully presented. Sat outside and had great view of Santana Row. A great experience for us and our friends.
I was surprised at the poor service and hoping it's a one off. Breakfast took 35 minutes after tracking down the server and also speaking with the manager. I expected more than a reduction of $4 off the bill.
Yesenia, our waitress provided us ample time to choose our cocktails and water and then with time between our appetizer and entree. She was attendent but acknowledged our request for private conversation. She explained the special and answered questions regarding entrees. She came back frequently to see if we needed anything. It was a Sunday evening and not sooo busy that we also got to get a personal side too. Good luck to Yesenia on her future nursing career! Hope she gets lots of tips to help her.
Village Calfornia Bistro and Wine Bar is always my go to! Love that place !
Service was awesome but unfortunately the fish and chip were not the best, the inside of the batter on fish was wet it should have been dropped in fryer a minute or two longer and the fries were limp and soggy, edible but not the standard I had here previously , we did mention it to the server and he said he would let the chef know to avoid this happening again
Food was decent. The server was smiling and friendly but had NO knowledge of what was in the food and had to be asked more than once to ask the cook. I asked about the soup and she never asked and then told us at the end of our meal. We asked for break with olive oil. She brought the olive oil and forgot the bread. No training. No menu knowledge. We were going to have dessert but decided that might be more work than it was worth so we skipped it.
We were having a girls shopping trip to Santana Row last Saturday and we decided to make a reservation a few days prior at Village California Bistro & Wine Bar. We got very hungry and decided to see if they were able to seat us early, and they were able to let us move up our reservation, which was very nice as they were busy. It was a warm day but the umbrellas kept us cool. The drinks were terrific! We had the Blood Orange Martini and the Spicy Margarita. We enjoyed our cocktails with a wonderful Mediterranean style appetizer of hummus and other wonderful Greek flavors. For our main course, two ladies at our table ordered the Tuna Melt & Cheeseburger to share - they raved about it. Another gal had the Fish & Chips and said it was really great as well. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich that came with honey jalapeños - it was pretty spectacular! Our waitress was so sweet and accommodating and the service all around, was really good. We will definitely visit again and I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Came here for brunch and was extremely disappointed. I had been there for brunch a few months back and really enjoyed the food, but this time around the quality of the food was just not there. I ordered the prawn ranchero only to find out a few minutes before they brought the dish out, that they were out of tortillas for the dish. Not sure how you would call this a ranchero if it didn’t have tortillas. The wait staff offered nacho chips instead...I couldn’t believe it. The egg was fried pretty hard instead of it being runny as it should for this dish. Then the shrimp skewer was cold. Will not be back!
First time here and great cocktail menu. Orange Cosmo and Berries Lemon Drop were delicious! Cerviche was served with potato chips...a bit unusual and not much avocado. Sole was good, served with mashed potatoes and spinach.. Lemon Creme Brulle was very tasty! Another visit is a must to try other dishes on the menu.
interesting, healthy menu choices, everything sounded good. nice place. will go back.
Sunday morning bfast; service was slow and no existent. Food allergy was not taken seriously and took several attempts of me insisting they confirm the food item before they asked the chef who said it was fish, which my friend is allergic to. Orders came out incorrectly. I had to walk in my own check. Had to ask for water. It’s too bad because I’ve enjoyed bfast there many times over the years. Will not be returning.
The brie is delicious very nice place to eat outdoors service was excellent!
Good food and good location! Service was pleasant and prompt.
We sat for over an hour before anyone took our order. Once our order was taken it took almost as much time to get our food. Very disappointing. The manager did apologize and compensated us for 2 bowls of soup but not sure I’d ever go back.
Small portions for the money even for my small wife.
Poor and slow service it was a slow night. Took forever to get drinks. Never got our appetizer. Food was fair.
The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived.
Our waiter apparently failed to fire our food order with the kitchen and the wait was unusually long (45 minutes for a Nicoise salad and a Waldorf wrap). He never apologized for the delay and we noticed he was more interested in chatting with his colleagues than servicing his customers. I actually had to get up and walk over to him to ask where our food was? Weird. When the food finally arrived it was delicious.
Not typical service for Village that both my guest and I frequently dine at.
A great experience. One of our favorite places to enjoy a meal.
Food was decent, not exceptional, Ambience was good and wait staff was fairly attentive, but would disappear for periods of time.
Service was very slow, food came out more than five minutes apart, almost dropped a ceramic on my foot, burger and fish and chips were very mediocre and did not meet expectations for the area. Outdoor seating was very nice, good temperature, nice views and people watching. Interesting brunch menus.
Our waiter Jose, was fantastic. He provided time between our cocktails and our appetizer, etc. We weren't rushed and had adequate wait time until entree. Jose's wine and entree suggestions were spot on. The sole was flavorful as well as the prawn pasta. The wine suggestion was a hit. My favorite is the brie appetizer.
The food was tasty but a bit over-priced. While we requested outdoor seating, we didn't have shade after we were seated for about 20 minutes. The waiter was very busy and not very attentive to our table.
latte was barely warm. food arrived before appetizer although specifically told to hold main dishes. Main dishes arrived ten minutes after appetizer. Clearly had been sitting a while since eggs and bacon both dried out. Server either new or used to diner style service. Did not care about our request.
Overall the place is good since it’s santana row, and it’s a pretty patio, but it always feels like they need more waiters. Often your waiter is waiting on 6-8 tables which is a lot and he/she can’t even get to you to refill your water or bring you any sauce... basically you only see your waiter 2 times. When they take your order and when they bring you the check. Just eat your food and have fun and don’t expect the waiter to even check on you!
Enjoyed outside dining.
I ordered the sea food sampler. 3 oysters were OK, the octopus was acceptable, the shrimp were overcooked (and no cocktail sauce) and worst of all the seared tuna was ice cold. The room and the wait staff were pleasant.
Awesome summer evening experience, food was absolutely delicious.
Love the atmosphere- in or out - and menu. Nice wine selection.
Nice place for a celebration or to just have a nice dinner. Great service. Very polite crew. They took a great care of us.
Always enjoy their food and drinks.
We met some friends for dinner at The Village Bistro. Our reservation was as we requested, and we were seated on the patio promptly. Water for everyone and bread & butter were served within minutes.
Our drink orders were taken and they also were delivered quickly. The drinks were decent, but nothing remarkable.
I ordered fish & chips, while my wife ordered the short rib dinner, and our friends shared the seafood sampler platter, along with some salads.
All the food was delivered timely and well presented. I had to ask for vinegar and some tartar sauce, which were brought quickly.
Unfortunately, the food just didn’t measure up to the rest of the experience. My fish was ok, not great - but the chips, which are literally potato chips which I assume are made there, were unseasoned and blah. The coleslaw was also flavorless. My wife said her short rib suffered the same malaise with not much flavor from such a savory expectation. Our friends said the seared Ahi in the sampler was a bit sketchy.
We had a nice time overall, and we’ll try again, but with so much culinary competition within Santana Row, they need to step it up a notch.
I would BUT we both got sick...I think someone left something out to long. We both had the Cobb Salad...so it had to be old lettuce or the dressing.
Wonderful both indoor and sidewalk service. Great wine selection. Love that menu is seasonal.
