Everything about the place was great. However I had a reservation at 8pm and was seated immediately but it would have been nice to know that our table was going to be outside. Normally not an issue but it was 90+ degrees outside. I wanted an earlier reservation and those times available noted the table was outside so I booked st 8pm but that reservation time wasn’t designated as an outdoor table and I was seated there. That was disappointing
I had a reservation for fathers day brunch for weeks; and yet our group was seated on the cobble stone patio out front of the entrance. I have been to this restaurant many times over the years, and never be placed exposed to the sun, with no fan, and no other option to move our seating besides another table in that same patio. At least there is shade and fans in the "inside" outdoor tables. I would have appreciated being told we would be outside when I placed the reservation, as we would have chosen to come back another time, and had our special meal elsewhere. I had two people in our party who are sensitive to the heat, so it was not ideal. Our waiter was kind and helpful - but was clearly overwhelmed and took a lot of time to get back to us for basics. Not their fault (and we tipped them of course) but our special occasion was a bit of a let down b/c of choosing this restaurant.
Another great experience!
Great atmosphere, food was wonderful as always. The only thing that wasn't perfect was sitting outside...it was really hot that day...so even in the shade it was warm.
excellent food and service. the meal was superb and exceeded our expectations. this is a Louisville gem.
Great food and atmosphere. I had the pork chop and my wife had the shrimp and grits. Service overall was very good. The only nit-picky thing is that it took a little too long to get the salad out and ended up having to eat it with the entre. But overall very good and we'll be coming back and looking forward to exploring more items on the menu.
Couples dinner. Service was excellent. A little too noisy. Food was delicious.
The famous banana pudding was 98% meringue. The food was ok but overpriced for what your received. Salt and pepper should be available on the table.
The atmosphere was stuffy and very loud. And just bring my check out to the table. The whole book thing is annoying especially when there are multiple receipts from other patrons in said book and your not sure which one is yours unless you really look at it in detail.
I will not be back.
Normally we enjoy going but this time the tables were pushed too closely together inside and it was very noisy. Food quality was just ok though the won tons are always good. Seems like they are skipping a little.
The service and cuisine was good as usual but the 12:00 testing alarm was going off , very loud.
Price of the food is high compare to quantity. However, food quality id very good. It is a good place if one can afford that price.
I have been to this restaurant several times with coworkers as a end-of-job dinner and told my wife about it and how good it was. I finally had the chance to take her and it was absolutely fantastic! It was literally everything I had told her about and I will be back, no doubt.
Delicious food and fantastic service!! Thank you!
Food was very good. Service was sub-par. Server seemed distracted, frequently not available and service was slow when provided.
Loved the fried chicken, French onion soup and the hotter brown. I’ve been here several times. Patio dining is the best if the weather permits.
We were celebrating a birthday and the staff did an excellent job of making it a wonderful experience! The Village Anchor never disappoints!
Food was fabulous. It was a really cool place with interesting decor. I would not recommend for a quiet meal. My wife and I went for our anniversary and we were seated at a table that was about 6 inches away from the next table. Wait staff couldn’t fit between them. It was noisy and hard to hear each other and easy to hear everyone else. On our reservation we stated it was our anniversary so we were disappointed where we were seated (wasn’t bad at first until it filled in about 10-15 minutes after our arrival).
I was very disappointed in the service and the food. I would consider my visit average, but I expected great. The price was too high for the food $60 for 2 people.
My wife & I went for an anniversary dinner. The food was great, service was on point & prompt. The ambiance was unique & cool. Slightly pricey, but not overly so. Overall, we really liked the place.
Set up reservation for graduation few weeks in advance. Had to wait over an hour from reservation time @ 8pm not sure advantages to using this app?
They finally seated us with one of us sitting on end of table in path of patrons and staff. Food came out fast but wait for table with guests from out of town that had to drive back to Indianapolis not good. Seemed like they were understaffed and overbooked?!
First time here and the food was great. Would come again
We went here for our anniversary. The food was very good. We had the fish and chips, hot brown, and goat cheese app. The creme brûlée, however, came to us cold. So that was disappointing. The service was not great. Our waiter seemed very preoccupied with the two larger parties beside us, and my husband sat without water for 30 minutes. We were seated outside, which was very noisy and fairly hot.
Twice now we have been disappointed in the food....Which 6 months ago was good.
Always a nice setting. So loud (outside). Maybe having two to three restaurants is ambitious.
Brunch was great! The server Savannah was awesome and super tentative. Food was yummy! We will be back.
Went to celebrate my son’s high school graduation - the Village Anchor left a note and a decoration on our table 😊 Jason, our waiter, was very nice and did an awesome job! Will definitely return!
Graduation party for my daughter!
There were 6 of us "seniors" who were meeting (4 from out of town) & with the fans going to help move the hot stuffy air, we could barely hear each other & had to talk loudly. Understand the difficulty with cooling - it just wasn't the best choice for us. No inside seating was available at the time. We still had a very nice visit albeit a bit noisy. Wait staff were awesome!
Excellent... like always!
Brought friends from out of town and everyone loved the restaurant! Rave reviews on our choice for the dinner location. Our waitress Savannah and the entire staff did a fabulous job and made our visit even more special. The Shrimp & grits and Fried chicken were "really, really good" per our guests. Thanks again for exceeding our expectations : ) Will be back soon!!!
Very nice evening
Wonderful ambience. Delicious food. Staff was kind, helpful, and service was impeccable. We’ll be back!
Food was delicious but seating was outside with loud fans blowing directly on us. Tables were very close to one another so noise level was loud
Bad experience on Mother’s Day. I made my reservation two months in advance for eight. Our party included my 92 year old mother who had to sit on a very high high top. She faced the restroom, in the bar area, and saw the toilet every time the door opened. I would have changed seats, but it was very difficult getting her into the chair and she didn’t want to make the change. We were cramped on the side by the bathrooms and across from the bar. We have always been seated upstairs. We won’t be back.
As always, a great meal at a great restaurant! The salmon was great, along with the desserts. We love the crème brûlée and the banana pudding dessert. We suggest you keep that on :-)
I expect a markup on a bottle of wine. I do not expect it to be 4x what it costs at the store but that is what you get when you order a bottle here. Average price $49.99 in the store... $175 at Village Anchor. Oh and I hope you like to pour your own refills of your $175 bottle of overpriced wine because the service is also lacking.
Another nice evening at The Village Anchor! Great service, good food (try the fish and chips) and drinks (Allen Wrench is the best) and top it off with banana pudding and carrot cake! It was a wonderful evening to sit on the patio!
The Village Anchor will make your night magical, no matter the occasion! It's a beautiful, whimsical restaurant, that only gets lovelier as the sun goes down. Plus, the food is AMAZING!
Food was excellent and atmosphere wonderful. Would definitely go back. Food took awhile to come out, but it was delicious!
Took a party of 10 for Sunday brunch (Derby weekend). The food was fantastic and the service was flawless. If the staff at the Anchor were as fatigued as we all were, it certainly didn't show. Definitely a must for out-of-town guests. Oh - did I mention we had yummy drinks too!
