Second time here and was not disappointed. I had the beef short ribs and they were delicious/moist. My wife had the. Brussel spout salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice relaxed dining pace with friends - wonderful fire in the fireplace. John the bartender was also our server and did a good job

Servers in training and it showed in the service. Very nice but forgot many details of our order. Table we were sat at was very wobbly. Another patron pointed out to the staff that there table was also very wobbly. Food was good.

This is probably our fifth or sixth time here in the past two years. Never disappointed. The two fireplaces were going strong, we were seated in the outdoor seating, but there are heat lamps and rolled material to block the drafts around the windows. We started off chilled and ended up quite comfortable.

Our server, Alan, was quite attentive and was assisted by many others throughout the night. Never intrusive, but genuinely caring about making sure everything was great.

Two of us split the small fried brussel sprout salad (not to be missed!) and we each had the salmon...which is amazing. Delicious, large portions. In fact, I had the rest of my salad and entree for dinner the next day. The four of us split the pretzel with the cheese sauce. It was quite a presentation, but the sauce was sort of bland. Can't really ruin a pretzel!

One of the others had the meatloaf burger with sweet potato fries. Really enjoyed it. The other had the fried chicken and said it was amazing. They both had side salads too.

We pre-ordered the banana cream pie dessert (they only make a limited amount each day). I didn't partake. The meringue was piled high, and the banana cream was reported to me as very delicious.

This is a great place to take friends (ours were from out of town and we avoid any chains or ho-hum places) or on a date, or special occasion. We will be back again soon.

We decided to create a shareable experience by ordering many things for the three of us at our table to share. This was fun! The Village Anchor's menu of creatively named comfort foods made this easy. We ordered the giant pretzel with beer cheese (presented hanging from a banana hanger!), the fried goat cheese salad, the sweet potato fries with marshmallow and a spicy bourbon dip, pulled pork and blackened fish tacos, the Tribecca Bread (a MUST!), the Baked Macaroni, Meatloaf Burger..! Such fun! .
(My Mother was in town from Washington D.C.; while reading the menu she said multiple times "! my grandmother used to make this recipe!!", and "this was one of my favorites as a kid! We must get that, too!")
My mom (and daughter) LOVED the ending with the Banana Pudding Meringue, AND the check delivered to the table in an old romance novel. (Then my Mom finally looked up while putting on her coat and was in awe of what's seemingly a gallery of framed paintings on the ceiling!) She made sure to take a photo and couldn't stop talking about The Village Anchor. (This says a lot since she's no stranger to the vibrant restaurant scene of Washington D.C. area.)
Side-note, thanks to Village Anchor for having a kids menu AND the coloring page!

I rarely write restaurant reviews anymore with so many great restaurants in Louisville but I had to in this case. A restaurant hitting on all counts like Village Anchor did with us today deserves praise. From our super attentive super human server Emily (be sure to ask for Emily) to the exceptional food and ambience that is Village Anchor I can’t say enough positives. The bar they set is so high that only few have come even close.

Under the leadership of a great team including Assistant General Manager Merritt Mowery they have assembled and trained some of Louisville’s finest. I’ll definitely be back again soon and suggest anyone looking for a great dining experience put Village Anchor on your short list of restaurants to enjoy.

Absolutely love The Village Anchor! The food is amazing and definitely worth every penny!! The atmosphere is cozy, the great music played overhead is just loud enough so you're not hearing everyone's conversations yet not so loud that you cannot hear your own conversation. The specialty drinks are the icing on the cake!

New Year’s Day brunch. We were seated on the enclosed outside porch & even with lap blankets, it was unbearable. Outside temp was 5 degrees.
It was early & told would warm up but they were kind enough to move us inside and exceptionally nice in doing so.
Think they should fire up heaters before opening those area.
Everyone was pleasant. Service and food were good.

Only reason I wouldn't give this a 5 star rating in all categories is that most of their seating is on an enclosed patio. I have been in the summer where its really hot to sit out there and this past time was for new years brunch and we were freezing ( we could see our breathe). The staff was able to get the heating situation fixed by the end of our meal and were very apologetic but it still made for an unpleasant experience overall. I will still continue going here though and recommend it because of the AMAZING food and atmosphere. I will just make sure to watch the weather a little better next time :).

The service was great and the food as well, besides the dessert (banana pudding was the worst dessert I've ever had). My wife's order was changed without notice (out of asparagus, so they used brussel sprouts with bacon), this would be fine, but my wife doesn't eat pork. They were quick to correct the order. Overall, the service & food was great.

For NYE this year my husband and I decided what we really wanted was a good dinner. We didn't care about the festivities or anything, just wanted a good meal. We had been to the Village Anchor once before and really enjoyed the food so it seemed like a good choice. When we arrived we learned our table wasn't ready yet. I felt like we were on Seinfeld ("but the reservation keeps the table here!). So we waited ten minutes before being seated and that put a bad taste in our mouth from the beginning. Then we were seated in the "scenic lower level" which is a porch surrounded by plastic to try to keep us warm. I should've known the evening was about to get worse when we came downstairs and saw people sitting at their table with coats on. The heater next to us stopped working and our feet were frozen the entire time. I had my coat and scarf on throughout the meal. After discovering they had a selective menu for NYE and what I was hoping to order didn't exist, I was disappointed. I ordered the sage chicken and my husband got the pork chop. Both were supposed to come with grilled asparagus per the menu but instead we got brussels sprouts (which I can't stand). He said his pork chop was tough and I thought my chicken was tough as well. It's disappointing to go out to eat and feel like you could've cooked a better meal at home. We enjoyed the sweet potato fries and thankfully filled up on those before the entrees arrived so we didn't leave starving. We canceled the banana pudding so we didn't have to stay longer and left as soon as we were done. We will not be going back.

The food was excellent however the atmosphere was not. We were seated on the Lanai close to the back wall and it was almost unbearably cold. We ended our meals with our winter jackets on. There was a heater but it was not sufficient.
I was a bit disappointed because we love Village Anchor and come often. It kind of put a damper on our New Years Eve dinner.

Village Anchor is a Louisville treasure! Our experience, once again was exceptional (although for the Village Anchor, exceptional is typical!)! Sunday Brunch is one of our favorites, and usually our meal of choice for out-of-town family and guests. Every meal and beverage was, once again, delicious (Red Velvet Pancakes are always the perfect appetizer!).
John, was the consummate server...professional yet personable; friendly, but not overly familiar; always available, but not intrusive; knowledgeable and informative, and able to explain the details and why of his recommendations; and was able to accommodate every once of our eccentric requests. Just another fantastic experience! Thank you!

The food and server were wonderful. After making a reservation, however, we did not expect to be sitting out in the “enclosed” patio in frigid weather. It was very difficult to enjoy the experience while freezing in a “mildly heated” atmosphere where you could barely feel your feet and the waiter thoughtfully brought you a blanket and apology for the conditions. I wish the manager had personally offered apologies, however, he did not make his way to our table, but stood inside the warm house near the fireplace, apologizing only after our meal was complete. Knowing the condition of the “room,” proper management should have used the reservation list numbers to call and warn patrons in advance of our dinner, apologizing for their heating deficiencies and offering options for rescheduling. While I enjoyed the friends and food, the thoughtless conditions we were subjected to ruined the overall experience. I hope the establishment will be more thoughtful of the weather in future planning for the good of all.

I have been to the Anchor several times, and always had great food and service. This time was no exception with regard to those two items, but it was Christmas Eve and the outdoor area where we were seated was pretty cold. Also, the music was too loud to talk normally over. I asked our waiter to turn it down and he did so, but then it went back up after perhaps 20 minutes. It was also a LITTLE too crowded in there, in my opinion. I understand wanting to make as much seating room as possible on a special occasion like this, but they probably squeezed one too many tables in there. The great food saved the evening, but please think a little more about maintaining a comfortable atmosphere next time.
