Awesome as usual
My mother was in from Florida for a visit. I wanted to take her & a longtime friend of hers to a place that was special an unique. I am a small business owner and love to support small businesses. E we had an amazing lunch, everything was delicious. Our server Erin was delightful.
Great evening; original table was in a drafty area, so after a brief wait, we were seated in a more cozy area, thanks to a helpful hosting staff. Server assisted with app selection, and did not rush us at all (2 Moms with 2 young adult daughters with a lot to catch up on). The entrees were delicious-- 3 salmon and one seafood special. I am thinking about that salmon right now. Mmmmm.
I love this place. I bring our vendors here for dinners. It's always a good experience and the food is great.
Nice change of scenery. Went for my birthday on a Wednesday and got half-off on a bottle of wine. Not bad!
Chef Jon Pauley is a true asset to the Village Anchor. He goes the extra mile to add special touches and his dishes are amazingly delicious! Book your next dinner as soon as you can and be ready for a real treat!
Excellent food and service! Always consistent and delicious!
Great staff and food. Very welcoming for ALL people.
Friendly staff. Willing to help. A great meatloaf burger. And the old novels that they give you with your checks are awesome.
Office birthday lunch. Service was unreasonably slow. Were seated immediately, order was taken 30 minutes later, food arrived 30 minutes later. Some had to place order to go because of delay. Fried egg and pancetta sandwich needs to be offered as it really is....a fried egg sandwich. Size of pancetta included was half the size of my pinky finger. When shown to waitress she advised the kitchen said the sandwich was to include a sole piece. Other than that food was good but pricey. Those who paid in cash were upset that waitress in lieu of returning exact change took the liberty to only return dollar bills. Would not recommend to people who have a limited lunch period.
Last night was absolutely wonderful!! Thank you The Village Anchor!!! We had one of our girlfriend’s birthdays there. It was a nice group of 15 and Erin kept all the drinks and food coming!!! Truly amazing. She didn’t miss a beat and the food was great! We will be back real soon 💕
Went with another couple & the tables on the porch are very close together so I felt like we were sitting with the people next to us. Luckily they were about to leave. I had the ahi tuna salad & my husband got a burger. All good.
Loved it. Food is delicious. Overall it was a good experience. We did have one little thing, my moms dinner, she ordered one of the evening specials. The bed of rice which came with her entree was undercooked. Everything else was fine, but being that she was the guest of honor at the celebration, it was her 80th birthday party, it would have been nice if they could have gotten that right. She was a good sport about it. After all she was around family and was tickled to have so many help her celebrate. I would still recommend this place. No one is perfect after all.
Lovely place. Service was slow, but I think they were short on help. Menu is a little bit pricey, but we had a good time and enjoyed our visit.
Love the village!!!
If you are going to spend big money on a meal, you might as well do it here. We had our wedding anniversary dinner here recently and had the surf and turf special. It was special. The atmosphere is what drew us to The Village Anchor. The food and service are what will keep us coming back.
Our server was extremely nice and attentive. The food was excellent as always. I took my mother there for her first time to have brunch and she was very pleased
Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience dining at the Village Anchor. We were seated outside on the covered porch, where we had sat previous visits. There were loud fans blowing that made it very difficult to hear and flies everywhere. I'm not sure if there is anything they can do about the flies, but they were relentless and made the food much less appetizing. The service was poor. Our waiter paid little attention to us after receiving our order. He brought us water with grass it in. We had to request water refills, and he still did not refill right away. Sadly, he was much more attentive the table right next to us, making his poor service at our table much more obvious. I suspect he put in our salad orders late, so it took an hour after sitting to get two salads. Then, he did not put the main order in until after he saw the salads at our table, making us wait 2 hours for our mains. My kids were so starving they had to fill up on bread (two pieces that came with the salads). When the food finally arrived, it was not worth the wait. The fried chicken lacked flavor, the brussel-sprout salad had such potential but was in a fruity vinaigrette that made the flavor very odd. The salmon was flavorless. We couldn't get a bite in without flies landing on our food. The flies and the loud fans made the ambiance miserable. We asked for boxes very quickly. Yuck. I'd like to see more seasonal variety in the menu and better service. Also, if so much of your seating is outside, then they need better options for cooling than three LOUD industrial fans. I don't mind louder restaurants if the sound is from diners and music, but those fans were the pits.
We went for brunch because the menu looked so good, and we were not disappointed! Each of us tried a different mimosa to start, which was fun. We started by sharing the green chili wontons, plenty for four of us. The menu was fun and quirky with several items that you wouldn't find anywhere else. I tried the Hotter Brown, an interesting spin off of a traditional hot brown. The menu was fun and quirky with several items that you wouldn't find anywhere else. We ended the meal by sharing Mom's Hot Banana Pudding Meringue, which was slightly tangy rather than being cloyingly sweet. Our server was very nice, attentive, and interested in where we were from, etc. It was a wonderful meal in a lovely setting with great service. What's not to like? We will definitely go back to try the dinner menu!
Dined at Bark and Brunch. Excellent time. Food very good and service was a tad less than the usual superior service, but the dog craziness and some understaffing issues were the cause. Overall, great time and hope that the Village Anchor does the Bark and Brunch again.
Great food, good service, excellent ambiance
Recommended by a local person we met at Churchill Downs. Great recommendation.
They pleased my mother which is next to impossible!
We absolutely love Village Anchor. We had a fantastic server and our food was delicious. Our check-in, however was frustrating. We made reservations well in advance but upon arrival (we were among the first few guests on a Sunday morning), we were offered a table inside and directly next to the front door. We requested a table outside and although only 3 other tables had guests, we waited almost 15 min to get seated. The original hostess that greeted us and took our name, answered a phone call and did not speak to us again. Another host stepped in and got us to our table. We will certainly go back but in the future I will specify the table request.
Awesome food, service, and atmosphere. Will be back and recommend!
We experienced our first southern "Brown", 3 great bourbon drinks, a very special banana desert and had a wonderful experience at The Village Anchor. Off the beaten path, this is a neighborhood gem and worth the trip. We will be back!
Have had dinner here several times when visiting Louisville. Enjoy the restaurant and the menu. The service was extremely slow on this visit. Our outside table was being serviced by the bartender. Good guy but because he was making drinks for all customers our service suffered. Suggest the management not do this as I said we waited to order, get bill, pay bill longer than we should have waited.
Came for brunch for husband’s bday. Waiter was not on task, seemed a bit off. Forgetting to bring requests & refills. Table beside us was non-stop complaining to their waiter. Our food was very bland. Have eaten here many times, but least favorite experience.
LOVE the ambiance. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars across the board is because of the flies that swarm once the food comes out--- but that's the price of eating outdoors, I suppose. It obviously doesn't bother me that much because we're back every other weekend. $1 mimosas also sweetens the deal;)
I have been here many times and local to the area but have to say my past few visits have been pretty disappointing in service and food quality. Hoping this changes soon.
Always awesome...feels like I’m on vacation!
Had brunch at The Village Anchor and ate on the patio outside under the shade trees. The food was fabulous and so was the service. We were truly relaxed and enjoyed the experience. It felt like we were3 taking a mini-vacation while still being close to home!
Over all this was a very enjoyable evening. Will definitely be back. The entrance is a bit tricky, you kind of feel in the way while waiting for a table. Yet the ambiance is romantic, upbeat energy. Service was good yet felt we had to remind the hostess we had a reservation, as well as repeating items we needed through the evening. The patio was a bit warm this time of year with a few mosquitoes, a few lemon grass planters would be a nice addition to the patio. Yet the food was great and a good value for the quantity and flavors. A fun place to gather with family or friends. Check it out for sure!
The Village Anchor is one of my favorite restaurants in Louisville! Great food, great service, and great ambiance.
Not sure how it took us so long to try this place out! Great menu, excellent food and on-point service. Recommended!
We eat here every time we pass through Louisville. This is our fifth time eating here, the food is always delicious and the staff is great. We have had dinners and Sunday brunches and we would recommend both!! Our server last Sunday even made a few suggestions for items to add to our order that enhanced our meal. We will be back again next time we are in town!!
It took 55 minutes to get our food. Many in our party had cold food (although it was good).
Sunday brunch. Service was a slower than usual. We arrived about 10:30. Food came out mostly warm but not hot. Bacon was nearly cold. Coffee press was great and hot. Rose wine was perfect.
It is hot out on the lanai and the fans help, but they are very loud. Bear this in mind if you have elderly people in your party (like we did). They won't be able to participate in the conversation! Food and service are VERY good.
