Ristorante Villa Francesca, in the North End of Boston, Massachusetts, is the brain child of Guglielmo Ranauro. Through his desire for perfection and pure love of the Italian cuisine, Guglielmo created Villa Francesca over thirty years ago. He bestowed the name Francesca after his mother, never forgetting the love and wonderful food she always provided while growing up just across the street from the restaurant. Villa Francesca boasts over 160 wine selections, and has received the prestigious Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator awards since 2007. You've got to try the raw bar!

We absolutely love Villa Francesca. It’s my favorite restaurant. The lobster raviolis are to die for. The fritti did mare is also excellent!

We were led to the basement and decided not to stay. Wasn’t a Valentine’s Day setting in our judgement .

There were tables on the main floor, but the hostess said they were “reserved”. Apparently, not for Open Table users.

Make sure you get seated downstairs or in the main room- we were by the bar and it was loud and cold! Amazing lobster ravioli and fresh cannoli. Great food. Just be prepared to take your time, as service is slow. This is restaurant that is worth the trip!

We ordered the veal parm. and couldn't find the veal...a tiny little piece covered in Mozz. !The extra large plate was bigger than the portion. Sauce was tasty and ziti was good. Bread was stale & it look moldy.

Loved the dessert, the "Cornet Suzie" was amazing....but with all the wonderful restaurants in Boston's North End I wish we found somewhere else to have dinner. The chicken breast was overcooked and couldn't be cut with a butter knife (they did remake the dish but of course one person is waiting as we are trying to eat a hot meal), and the mussels were so teeny and were starting to get a undesirable fishy smell. I'd go again for wine, cappuccino and dessert--because it is very cozy, but I wouldn't choose to eat dinner there again...

As we are within a 10 minute walk, we have frequented this restaurant many times over the years but have not returned for about 2 years after a confrontation with a rude host who would not seat us 10 minutes early (6:20) in an empty restaurant while waiting for our third party who on her walk over from her apartment about 4 blocks away, which we explained. He insisted we sit at the bar to wait as we were told that this was the policy. Untrue, as the other dozen or so times we have been there (always early - 6 to 6:30) we have not been pushed to sit at the bar, but taken to the table when the restaurant is literally empty at that time of night in the dead of winter. Had it been otherwise, the request to go right to the table would not have been asked.

Since my husband refused to return, I went with a friend the other night as I missed the wonderful calamari appetiser and very much enjoy the veal marsala. The grilled calamari rings were extremely small on this occasion and very chewy giving a feeling like they came out of a bag , and the red sauce much thinner than I remember. I thought maybe it was just the "bottom of the deck" so to speak, but the people who were seated next to us ordered the same and they were also tiny (about the size of a dime in circumference). Disappointing. The veal marsala was okay. I was not asked about the sauce I preferred on my penne. There was a drizzle of marsala sauce on it, but quite dry generally. The waiter was very attentive, which is about the best I can say about this last experience. I would not recommend at this time. I know they can and have done much better.

Food was lovely however found the place very overcrowded and over staffed . Staff looked bored and would congregate in a group near our table , would all speak Latin American loud and stare at us while we were eating , the minute we put our fork down they would rush to collect our plates , I found this very annoying, I also felt rushed . I had accidently spilt my wine, no one came to clean it off the floor or put a towel on the table .

Very pleased with our experience. Variety of choices for all palettes, fresh ingredients and good variety. Seafood risotto was excellent! Good service, attentive but not hovering.

The lobster ravioli was very good, but the rest of the food was average . The gnocchi and the house bread resembled store bought. The table were so close together that I was more apt to hear the conversation next to me, than with my wife. Average.
