Lobster filled ravioli in a light cream sauce with minced shrimp and fresh dill
Great dinner, great vibe. Service was good, tight quarters for their Alfredo Cart to move around.
The restaurant is very cute and welcoming.
We ordered an appetizer with tomatoes mozzarella, Hans and cheese and then we ordered pasta with pesto and penne a la Norma.
The appetizers were terrible. Flavorless tomato mozzarella and the cheese was dry as can be.
The pasta was flavorless. We could have ordered the same food in a Olive Garden and food would have been better.
The music they put on was Italian style sung by non Italians.
The whole experience was disappointing. A complete tourist trap!
Delicious meal in a great location! Amazing dessert!
I took clients from Minnesota to dinner before the Bruins game because I knew the food and experience would be top notch...and you didn't disappoint!
Amazing food, especially the Fettucini A La Francesca, which was the special for the night. We went as a family on New Year's Eve and had un unforgettable time. Will visit again!
We loved the food, service and ambiance. It’s an adorable place! Would absolutely go again.
I think terrible sums it up pretty much. Although the staff seemed awkward that they basically had none of the wine they said they had on the menu… this whole dinner was pretty sad. Very much NOT authentic Italian food at all. Sad stuff. 0/10. Food was cold. Service slow. Knowledge with staff very low. Pro tip: don’t let people order stuff you don’t actually have and compensate by giving them a sub quality product.
Great evening, ambience and food. Thanks
My family ate dinner here on Christmas Eve while visiting Boston and it was fantastic. My son and I love Italian food and are happy any chance we get to eat in a nice Italian restaurant. This place did not disappoint. The food was fantastic. The waitress suggested a nice inexpensive bottle of wine which was great. We sat in the lower level of the building which seemed like a little basement but the ambiance was still fantastic. Every table was booked and all the food coming out looked amazing. We didn't get it but I recommend trying the pasta dish that comes out and is put in a wheel of cheese (parmesean maybe). They mix the pasta while scraping freshing cheese from the wheel into it. It looked amazing. I had the Pesto Pasta and it was delicious.
Would return to this restaurant anytime we are back in Boston.
We have been coming here every December 23rd for the past 15 years and it is always outstanding. You always make us feel so welcome! We love Villa Francescas.
Christmas Eve dinner was greatly enjoyed at this restaurant. Hubby and I shared the Antipasti Della Casa for 2, a very fresh and delicate serving of meats, cheeses, olives. I found the Risotto Pescatore to be an unusual and uniquely flavored dish abounding with shellfish. Highly recommend! Hubby truly enjoyed his choice of Fruitti di Mari over al dente spaghetti served in a lightly spiced beautiful marinara sauce. It was loaded with fresh shell fish. We were treated very special by our server, Alex, who was attentive, charming and met our needs. Kudos to the chef and management!
Outstanding and has been a life long favorite of mine.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The wait staff and our server Judy were fantastic, cordial and attentive. My son devoured the mussels appetizer; the Gamberi Scampi was delicious. The entrees were also excellent. So glad we came here.
Charming restaurant! Perfect for holiday entertaining! Very accommodating. Generous portions. Impressive presentation. Have been here several times and will definitely return.
The raw bar is outstanding. We had the specials and they were really special. My companion had a dish with homemade fettuccine snd s whole lobster, mussels, clams in a fra diavolo sauce. I had a dish made table side in a flaming cheese bowl. Seriously. Wait staff are lovely and the atmosphere is charming (red tin ceiling tiles, shining dark wood). Very memorable birthday celebration.
Excellent food and service.
Tourist trap…below average quality and overpriced. Many better places to go to
Lobster Ravioli and Chicken Broccoli Penne are must haves.
Excellent as always. Food and service.
Charming atmosphere and a wonderful menu. Love the ambience!
Good was good but the manager was beyond rude pushing customers aside to move past them instead of waiting for them to take a seat. Waitress needed to be asked several times for the same items. Noise level was very loud and cranking AC in December.
Dinner before Andrea Bocelli concert!! The food was excellent as usual.
Our entire party of 7 did not enjoy the food. Their red sauce tasted like Ragu out of a jar. If you are Italian, steer clear of this food.
Love Villa Francesca! Have been going there for years. The food is incredible. Portion sizes are large. The food is always cooked perfectly.
Honestly if your looking for that north end Italian feel this isn’t it. Food is ok at best. Walked in told the manager our name and reservation and he said wait for a table in a rude way without even having the decency to look at us. The server was speaking super fast like she wanted us to hurry up and when I asked her to repeat it she didn’t look happy. Ordered the special that comes pasta cooked and rolled in cheese but the server added so much brandy in the dish when the menu didn’t say brandy, it was gross couldn’t taste the pasta and cheese took 2 bites and told the server and said “oh Really sorry” I ended up paying for the whole thing because I’m not one to make a scene. But honestly don’t waste your time here. Iv eaten in the north end around 15-20 times and this place is just not good.
The soup was great however the pasta was tastless, not home made
Great food, great service, great ambience. You will not be disappointed.
Lovely ambiance, delicious Italian food and a very friendly staff!
Our reservation was for 7:15pm. We arrived at 7:10pm and waited in line in their bar area (along with 20+ people in similar circumstances). The bartenders were too preoccupied to serve anyone waiting it seemed. We finally were seated at 7:55pm. Our waitress was overwhelmed. We sadly found out later she never mentioned the specials to us which many around us were enjoying. Our drink orders took forever. When we got our entrees, my glass of wine (which I pair with the entree) took an added 10-15min, by which time my entree was cold. When we asked the waitress about the specials of which we were never informed, she walked away. Huge disappointment. We love the North End. So many other options to choose from. We will never come back here.
Italian cuisine in the North End ranges from merely passable to sublime. The food at Villa Francesca falls squarely into the former category. If you are looking for big portions of mediocre traditional fare served up quickly and joylessly, then look no further. Starting with the annoyed maître d’ through multiple requests for a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on watery spaghetti marinara, and culminating in a $120 check for two simple meals and one glass of wine, the experience was suboptimal. I will avoid this place and return to one of the many tried and true north end establishments for my next meal in Boston.
Sat in basement with tables upstairs open. Very cold on the basement and no one else down there.
By all accounts Villa Francesca is a very good dining value. The food and service were very good. I would like to see the wine list by the glass offer a better level of wines. Price of wine was higher than expected by the bottle. We were celebrating our anniversary and go back especially on or around this date as Villa Francesca was our first official date 27 years ago.
recommend the parmesan flambe pasta - always enjoy VF and waitress especially pleasant
We love Villa Franchescas. But go during the week and not on a weekend. It was very busy and I think our waitress was slammed. Its covid I get it so we just chilled out
and waited. Our Caprese salad was very dissapointing small tomatos not even ripe enough. We saw it on the counter for 20 min before it was even served to us. However the pasta dishes and veal dish was excellent! We were there so long we did not get dessert just wanted out. Went to Modern to grab a canolli to go!
Completely uneatable food. Unless you consider ChefBoyardee Italian food - this is NOT a place to visit for actual food!
The food and service were very good, but the background music was quite loud and patrons were very boisterous, a bit under the influence and extremely loud. I could not hear my fiancee' from across the table without yelling. In addition, we were seated by the exterior summer openable doors and they were quite windy and the cold wind was blowing in and we had to eat in our winter coats - we though we'd be warm inside.
It was thanksgiving…. And I’m sure nobody wanted to be working. But….. the service was terrible. And another customer made this huge scene and kept calling the manager on the phone after he left. It was really unnecessary and disruptive.
We made a reservation by phone and through OpenTable to confirm our party of 3, 2 adults, and a child (2nd birthday) visiting from NJ. When we got there, we were taken to a small corner table with three chairs. We asked for a high chair, but the young lady responded with "we don't have a high chair". After a minute we realized that was not going to work out and our son would not sit still and begin to bother other families. We decided to head out to speak with the manager. That's when Erlinda showed up. When I brought up the situation, she quickly became frustrated (It was Thanksgiving Day and they were busy), but it was also my son's birthday and he deserved to have his chair. Erlinda said to me that the reason there are no chairs is that they are all being used up for a party. Then, she walked away from me with anger. I realized at that point that she's not going to accommodate us to ensure guest satisfaction. Erlinda refused to check if any of the chairs are no longer in use. We had to walk out on our son's birthday, on Thanksgiving Day, into a cold night with restaurants that have a minimum 1-hour wait for walk-ins. Shame on you, Erlinda!
I called Villa Francesca back to speak with Erlinda and give her a chance to fix her mistake but said that she didn't tell us to leave, and lied that she went to go get us a bigger table and hung up the phone.
The host lied about the restaurant not having high chairs, then Erlinda lied about a bigger table. I called again and said to her we want to come back and have a chair for our son, but she refused to go and check if any other chairs are freed up from the party or not being used.
Erlinda failed over and over, either because she's someone who's very disrespectful, or didn't have the proper support for such a big night. She cannot fulfill her duty. She should not be the face of Villa Francesca
This was the worst restaurant experience we've ever had. Worst hospitality.
Hasn’t changed in 20 years, definitely a standard Italian dining experience good food good service nothing extraordinary but never a bad meal
