About Villa Francesca
Ristorante Villa Francesca, in the North End of Boston, Massachusetts, is the brain child of Guglielmo Ranauro. Through his desire for perfection and pure love of the Italian cuisine, Guglielmo created Villa Francesca over thirty years ago. He bestowed the name Francesca after his mother, never forgetting the love and wonderful food she always provided while growing up just across the street from the restaurant. Villa Francesca boasts over 160 wine selections, and has received the prestigious Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator awards since 2007. You've got to try the raw bar!

Villa Francesca Ratings and Reviews
Host was uninterested in anything. Only asked people if they had a reservation yet he did not confirm on his screen and consequently I received a wrong no-show email from open table. He ruined the meal before we even got to the food. Do not get stuck in the basement, it has big groups and the temperature goes from warm to cold air blowing on you.
This restaurant came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It is truly authentic Italian. I ordered the homemade fettuccine and it was just ok. The noodles didn't taste homemade however the sauce was excellent. The wine list was very good and service was exceptional.
Overall a lovely experience in the North End and would return.
The staff at Villa Francesca was great. They put us in the lower room which was perfect for our party of 10. The food was AMAZING, and delicious. The restaurant has valet parking for $20 which is the norm for this area of Boston, and you don't have to worry about finding parking. Overall it made for a graduation dinner and celebration.
What a great experience. Went the night before the marathon for a pasta dinner. We were a group of 7 and arrived 30 minutes early - not a problem sat down right away. Offered many dishes that were not on the menu. The staff was very friendly and service was excellent.
Had the pre-marathon dinner with family at this restaurant. Great food! Server was so accommodating (you can even order items that are not on the menu), enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. Loved the decor and we sat by the front where the windows were open. That was great! Can't wait to come back.
We came here for lunch on Easter and it was fantastic. The window was open and we were seated right next to it, beautiful breeze. Decent prices for lunch and my food was incredible. I've eaten at most places in the North End but think this is now my favorite! Unfortunately the waiter chose for us the more expensive of the wines but it was good.
We were only in Boston for the week-end and a friend recommended Villa Francesca. We had early dinner reservations but called to change to late lunch. They were very accommodating. Had a great lunch! The meat balls were excellent. Great North End restaurant!
We went to the Villa Francesca this year for Boston Week. I had not been there for over 25 years and it is still wonderful. We have so many great restaurants in the Boston's North End that I had forgotten how good Francesca's is and will now return often. We were served by Edwin and he was totally professional. We found the food, from appetizers to entre to desert to be of among the best offered in the area. We ate at leisure and were never rushed and found that we were able to talk which is usually difficult in many of the noisy North End restaurants. Villa Francesca is a few steps off the main street but very easy to find and well worth looking for. I very highly recommend that you give this Restaurant a try.
I've been gong to Villa Francesca for decades. The quality of the food, which is very reasonably-priced, has been consistently superb. The pasta is just as it should be, in texture and in flavor. Even in Italy, I've never had better Tiramisu! The waitstaff is always professional and attentive. And the restaurant ambiance is lovely, especially if you get a seat by one of the windows overlooking Richmond Street. This is the North End restaurant I always recommend to tourists, when they want to have a truly Italian experience.
Repeat customer. Special occasion with another couple for Valentines Day. It was their first time there and already want to plan a return engagement. Food was excellent as it always has been in past visits. Service was outstanding and our waitress was very accommodating, attentive and patients we enjoyed our cocktails and decided on our order.
We had a big group together for my fathers birthday dinner. We were seated right away for our reservation at a great downstairs table. All the food came out timely. I gave 4/5 stars for food just because one member of our group has food allergies, and their plate came out incorrectly, and consequently had to be replaced which took some time. That be said, the pasta is delicious, and I recommend the Penne Porco Alle Erbe.
Although the table downstairs in the corner by the wine cellar was perfect for our group it
Took forever to get cocktails and then they were weak and not made to our requests.
Meals were average-everything tasted and appeared to have been microwaved.
Second "round" of drinks came much too late - we were already finishing dinner.
Overall service "so-so"
My family and I have dined at Villa Francesca several times and it has been hit or miss as far as getting a good meal. For some reason this seems to be dependent on when we went to the restaurant...too early (when it should be fairly quiet) and service was slow and the food okay...too late (when it was really busy) and service was slow and the food was okay. One time we would go and have a good meal but our follow-up visit would disappoint. My wife and I went for our anniversary, arrived a little earlier than our reservation time but were seated fairly quickly which was not good in this case. Our table was incredibly close to another one and didn't appear as if a table should even be in the location that our table was placed. We were hoping to enjoy a nice dinner for our anniversary but couldn't quite enjoy a conversation between just us without feeling like the party at the next table could easily hear what we were talking about because they were that close. The service was good, but fairly slow to get through a three course meal (1 1/2 hours). The food was only okay and the wine selection seemed overpriced but we still chose to get something to enjoy with our meal. I wish that I could say that something in particular stood out about the meal, but nothing did. The restaurant seems to push the prix fixe seafood menu but mentions items available (such as lasagna and other traditional Italian dishes) that aren't on the actual menu. I'll give another restaurant a try if making the trip to the North End.
The food was good: shrimp fettuccine and red snapper. House salad was good, caesar salad was generic ok. There is an extensive wine list, but the markup is extreme. We went for a less expensive bottle and it was $48 for a bottle that costs $10 in stores. The online menu lists the wine (it is tricky to find) but does not list prices. In the online menu our bottle was listed as 2009, in the menu at the restaurant it was listed as 2012, and they served a 2013.
We would be more likely to return if the wine ripoff was less extreme
