Villa Francesca Ratings and Reviews
I took my mom there for our first night out since my dad passed after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. It took one hour for us to get our food after we ordered . The waiter didn’t even give us the time of day or even check to see if we needed anything. I was very disappointed in the service we received.
The restaurant was very noisy and chaotic and we had to wait 30 minutes to get our table even though we made reservations. The hostess did not do a very good job managing the walk in traffic and we saw numerous people with reservations getting frustrated just like us. When we were seated we ordered some wine and they brought us a wine that was a different vintage from what was depicted on the wine list and she tried to tell us “that’s what happens”, so clearly she knows nothing about wine, which as a wine spectator award winner was very disappointing. Service was slow in general. If it wasn’t for the fabulous food the night would have been a bust.
This was a family and friends get together before the Ed Sherman concert at the TDGarden. Early dining at 5:30 for a party if 12. Delicious food and very accommodating to special palates and children. The restaurant is deceivingly spacious with two lower level seating areas. Everyone had a wonderful meal! Short walk to Hanover Street and back to Boston for any event.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere lovely but we felt rushed from the moment we sat down. There was much activity on the part of the waitstaff and it felt more like a food mill as diners were moved on an assembly line then sitting down in a relaxed atmosphere. I'm sure if we pushed back and asked for more time we would've gotten it but no one should have to be in that position in a fine restaurant.
I have been going since the mid 80's and for the first time dissatisfied, we were sat no water was brought we had to ask, no bread was served until we again asked, the ravioli dish was dry. The waiter never checked on our meals and seemed to forget about us. I have had many amazing meals here and was very unhappy given it was a special occasion.
Hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in the USA. I have been to Italy twice and this place takes me back there. Absolutely fantastic Veal Parmigiana and my wife loves the Fettucine Ai Carciofi! Order a cannoli and they put the cream in for you tableside which is unique and fun - we also thought the cannoli was just as good or better than Mike's Pastry but with no waiting. We were in Boston this time for 4 nights and ate there three times. Don't listen to anyone that says this food is not good unless you are into Olive Garden type "Italian" food! This place is the real deal.
Waited for over 20 minutes despite the reservation. Then the food service was extremely slow. 6 out of 7 of our meals came together and the 7th arrived 10 min. later. Management sent a shot of limoncello as an apology, but really the meal should have been taken off the bill. Eaten here many times and will again though, because the food is EXCELLENT!
We enjoyed our visit to Villa Francesca. We were a party of 9 and this restaurant is one of the few in the North End that can accommodate multiple large parties. Everyone was very happy with what they ordered. Note that "traditional" dishes such as chicken parm, pasta carbonara and others are not on the menu but are available if you ask.
A bit of a wait but well worth it. We got to sit at a table near the windows which were open and right at the street. Because it's not the Main Street and just an alley, the vibe was good. Some street musicians came by and made the mood a bit more romantic with the help of a few tips of course. Oh and the food was great. The prefix trio menu was good and the food was delicious and quite filling. Friendly service as well.
I usually come to this restaurant every restaurant week, this time will be the last time. Our service was terrible, the waiter was very rude. They changed the recipes on both the lobster ravioli, they added dill (gross) and the shrimp fettuccine recipe has changed too, it was not worth the $40 this time.
It started off good. We were seated on time and given beverages and even ordered an appetizer which came out pretty quickly.
It was downhill from there. There was 45-60 minutes until the main course came out and while waiting for our meals the hostess ask if she could take our high chair for another party. We had a 14 month old! Really???
Then we finally got the food and when we finished we waited for the socializing waitress to finish her conversation to deliver the dessert after all the dinner plates were cleared.
All and all it took 2 1/2 hours to feed 4 people with an infant and a toddler. It was frustrating to say the least.
I returned for a second time in the span of a week for the delicious chicken picato. Our server was lovely but the fried mozzarella app took too long and arrived cold and hard. Despite this the lemon drop martini and the pasta made up for it. I'll certainly be returning, but I may ask for Siomara next time as I really enjoyed the excellent service she provided.
We went during Restaurant Week (DineOut Boston) and were very happy with our choice. Often during this week, the specials offered are very limited (2-3 appetizers, 2-4 entrees, 2 desserts). Villa Francesca offered 8-10 choices of both appetizer and entree - enough selection that everyone was very pleased with their options. The food was delicious with abundant portion, and the service was attentive without being obtrusive. Would definitely recommend to others.
I've been to Villa Francesca many times, so my review is based on this recent experience. The Cons - The Hostess at the front made me uncomfortable - she was looking at me up and down and I received a strange vibe - not a great situation for a front of the restaurant person. Next, my allergies were never disclosed to Server even though I noted this on the Open Table reservation. Also, I have an issue with the table not be cleaned prior to dessert. Empty plates, bottles, etc., and crumbs stayed on the table throughout our experience - this was disturbing as the restaurant wasn't packed and there were plenty of wait staff available standing around.
The Pros - food was good and service was very good.
The food was excellent the service was very good. The only disappointment was we had asked for a table by the window which wasn't available but instead of another table upstairs where it is light open and airy they seated us in the hot dark basement. Not what we were hoping for couldn't help but be disappointed.
Visited this lovely restaurant on our trip to Boston, and it met all of our expectations.
Fish was fresh and delicious, service was outstanding!
A bit on the noisy level, but we could hear ourselves speak without any issues.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who is seeking wonderful food and a terrific time!
Got there at 715 and table not ready. Also mentioned it was a special occasion. Gives us a table downstairs next to a very loud table filled with kids the parents didn't care. We ask to move. Get placed in the front. Now 815 and nothing ordered. No mention to waitress who was good but still took 20 min to bring bread and forgot an appetizer. Overall bad experience and will never come again.
Staying in Boston for one day and decided to go here for dinner. Great decision! Sat at a table that had an open window to the outside and it was lovely! My almost 70 year old parents said it was the best meal they had ever had, and they have had many fine dinning experiences. Thanks for the great memory in Boston!
