Lobster filled ravioli in a light cream sauce with minced shrimp and fresh dill
Pasta alla Puttanesca
Extra virgin olive oil, garlic, fresh tomato, diced black olives, capers, anchovies and a touch of chili over pasta
The food was amazing. We really enjoyed the sole, the risotto, the fra Diablo and the veal stuffed with prosciutto. The tiramisu was really good too. The waiter was knowledgeable about the wines.
Francesca's Saturday night Sept. 11th. 2021 North End of Boston lots of people standing around waiting to get in for dinner , My wife and I walk up to the hostess and give him our name and he seats us right away . No we are not Super stars even though I think my wife Lynne is ! I made reservations a few days in advance because it was her Birthday , now I feel like a superstar !!!!
Our meal consisted of mussels in wine sauce as our appetizer, main course
my wife had eggplant and pasta and I had calamari over pasta. All three were delicious. A nice bottle of wine and an after dinner Sambucca . The night was fun the crowd around the Northend was lively and the evening was perfect . Thank You Francesca's staff and especially Irving our waiter you did a great job.
Nice place off the main street in the north end. Foot traffic is high, which is noticed when sitting in near the big open windows perfect for people watching. Noise is high when the doors and windows are open. The food was quality with some off menu items for those that are brave enough to ask for a special request. Cocktails were well made. Waiter service was a bit shaky in the tight setting. My experience with service was an accidental cocktail spill on my pants that dried up. At for timeliness the waiters are fairly attentive during the off peak time we dined.
The food and service was excellent!! I highly recommend this restaurant. Our waitress was a doll!
We were stuffed in a corner with a table next to us that had someone on the end. The back of their chair was up against the side of our table. The food was average at best.
We choose an outdoor table which added to the noise level because it was on busy Saturday night ( festival happening) on a busy intersection.
It rained heavily for a little while and we were comfortable under a big umbrella over our table.
The cocktail list of specialties was limited.
The food was very good and the wine list was fine.
Our server was a really nice young woman who provided good service.
Terrible service. Waited almost an hour for our meal after ordering. Two other tables that our waiter was helping sat down after us and got their food before us. We complained to the manager and he said oh sorry. Fish that my wife ordered was very fishy tasting and funny thing is the lady at the table next to us ordered the same fish and said the exact same thing. Would never go back to this place
We celebrated our 13th Wedding Anniversary and the whole experience was amazing.
Overall we had a great dining experience. We were there for about 2 hours for a party of 2. My only suggestion would be to try to shorten that time if the party does not continue to order drinks and food. Otherwise keep up the great food and service.
80th Birthday Celebration 🎉
We had a seafood fettuccine, which was ok. Spaghetti ale Vongole was average.
We would definitely go back to Villa Francesca! The food was incredible and the servers were very attentive. Like any outdoor seating on the streets of Boston/North End right now, the ambiance can be affected and noise level varies throughout the evening. That being said, we had a wonderful time and had no trouble hearing each other as we chatted our way through a delicious calamari appetizer (you have to get this even if you don't like calamari, the sauce was to die for). My friend had the special of the night and I had the red snapper. Both were great and pretty large portions! Our bottle of wine went down easy and there was always someone there to freshen our glasses when they were running low. We will be back!
Sever not friendly and very condecending. They had black mint leaves in the mojitos and the bartender serve he has no fresh ones. The food was cold. Waited so long for appetizers then it came out with the food. They charged us for 2 drinks they would take off the bill and the server said there was no manager. The food was not what I expected. Very disappointing especially having so many places to choose from. The food was not of the north end. We asked for bread at a table of 4 we were told no so many times.
There were many problems with service and management, none of which alone warranted a poor review but together do. One appetizer arrived 15 mins before the others. The waiter asked if we wanted bread and we said yes, but had to ask 3 more times before it arrived. A sandwich type moveable board on the sidewalk promised Wellfleet oysters for $1 each with purchase of a meal. Our waiter said they were not available because it was restaurant week, even tho 2 of us were ordering from the regular menu, not the special menu. He said the owners were crazy. The server tried to auction off or entrees by asking “ Who gets the shrimp…”. I told him to ask our waiter who was also standing at our table, but he couldn’t remember. This problem seems increasingly common, but would be acceptable with Denny’s grand slam breakfast, not at a fine dining place. It’s a problem of communication between waiter and server that is management’s fault for not implementing a system. The food was well presented and tasted great.
Everything was good except that I asked for a kids menu and there wasn’t one. I ordered a spaghetti and meatballs for a toddler and was charged full price $20 something dollars which I think is ridiculous and probably should have been explained better with regards to not providing kids meals
Smaller portions and less pricey
Before I begin let me say both my son and myself have been servers, so we know what the restaurant business is like...that said. I love to eat outdoors...so that was the only plus....food, not great...drinks...so over priced ...the Sangria was awful!!! Service, don't get me started on that. So unorganized..they must have been temporary help because they didn't have a clue on what was going on...ran out of one desert, they said the refrigerator broke, ice cream was melted. Now does that sound good to you.. So with all the other restaurants in the No. End..do not waste your time here. Oh, and the best for last, coffee grinds in my wine and on the rim of the glass...sent it back...only to receive a clean glass, but it was the same wine because there were a few grinds in the bottom
I ordered the special, thinking it would be similar in price to everything else on the menu. However, it was way more expensive, even though it was a vegetarian meal. Kind of disappointed because it was good, but not worth the price.
The food was decent, my husband loved the mussels for the appetizer. The fried mozzarella tasted eggy in some places. The portion of my chicken Parmesan was enormous. The cannoli was excellent. The tables were really tight, I couldn’t get my pregnant belly to sit in the inside seat. Not very conducive to social distancing.
The food just was not that great. We have had better meals in the passed
The outdoor space is loud and suffers from exhaust fumes of the cars. Uber and limo drop offs occurred right next to the tables. The pasta was over cooked. Service was excellent.
The wife and I ate there during Boston's Dine Out week in August.
After being seated it took 15 minutes for the waiter to greet us and explain the menu.
Ordered two glasses of wine - a Pinot Grigio which was OK and a Quercetto Chianti which was served at temperature of around 85F. Sent it back as it was undrinkable. They returned with a glass that was about 65F and at least I was able to force it down.
For dinner I had a shrimp appetizer which was just OK, the house special veal, Vitello Francesca which was tough and a gelato for dessert which was too warm and melting heavily when served.
The wife had a Caesar salad which was good, a veal Vitello Monte which was similar to mine - tough, and the gelato which was the same as mine.
Overall I will not go back. They charged $8 for the bread before the meal and the wine was overpriced as well as the meals. For the quality of the food and service it should reduce prices by about 30% to bring it in line with similar competitors in the North End.
Go elsewhere for a higher end restaurant which the North End has several outstanding ones such as Limoncello and Tresca's.
We used the “Dine Out Boston” option. The choices were excellent. The appetizers would be my choice for a meal most nights! Servings were generous, considering that this was a special option!
My wife and my meals were very good, portions were huge, staff was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend
Drinks were terrible! Didn’t take them off bill. $30 on nothing- terrible! Couldn’t even drink them… service was fair. Good is okay. Better places to go in north end!
Took 30 minutes for drinks to arrive (2 martinis).
App/Salad arrived long before drinks even though we ordered drinks 10-15 minutes before the food.
Heard couple behind us saying their drinks never arrived, not did their salads.
Only saw waiter when he would take an order. Others delivered food or refilled water as they were passing by to their assigned tables.
Pasta was dry on top like it sat under the heat lamp for a while. But stirred up, it moistened back up. Not much flavor, just bland and ordinary.
Service was terrible, entire experience was painfully slow, and food was only moderately ok.
A little too close but good was great
Charming, flavorful, great food and terrific all around!
The pasta special was terrible and way over priced
Got lucky and got a last minute reservation blindly choosing between the many Italian places in the North End. Wonderful meal, good service, great memory!
The $44.95 seafood 3 course meal advertised on their website was not honored. Service was terrible. We were there on a Saturday evening when managers know you should have your best staff on hand. No bread, no salad, waited 15 minutes for waters and then they wanted our order right away. I had eaten there 25 years ago and it was great with excellent service, a very memorable experience with my parents and friends of the family. However this experience with my own wife and daughter will not warrant a revisit.
Excellent food as always. Our young waiter was from Mexico and in trining, but he was very nice and did well.
The food was fantastic. Wait staff was very friendly and professional. The overall experience was very enjoyable.
We sat on the street so I can’t say how noisy the actual restaurant is, but outside was as loud as to be expected. Tables a little close together. But food was spectacular! We were very happy with the portion and price, and they do have a lot of waitstaff which is nice too. After going to the North End and walking by this restaurant for many years I’m so glad I finally dined there!
Horrible service, once they say us down it took 30 minutiae to take our order. Once they took our order, after 45 minutes they started to bring every persons meal separately, meaning that we didn’t get to eat with each other; and once they cleared the table they brought out the last person’s dish….. everyone got their food except our friend (obviously we all shared our food with him, but he felt left out) DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE; Can’t say enough how bad this was. So many other places to go around that you will not miss anything if you don’t go. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
I have loved this place for twenty years. Totally underrated
Very slow service unfortunately. Good food, not great food. Amazing tiramisu.
Delicious food, great service and wonderful atmosphere! VF never disappoints.
Understanding post COVID but waiting over 50 minutes for your food was not helpful. Overall food was very good. This place has outside and inside, just inside before COVID. They should revert back as there are to many tables for the staff to handle. Staff could easily handle inside only, this is an owner putting money over service, which is somewhat understandable over last year. But everyone should know.
Maybe we caught them on a bad night. The reason for my review is the Cosmo martini I order was awful. When you pay $16 for a martini you want it to taste like a $16 martini. It was mostly cranberry and barely shaken. Also, we sat down at 7 and our app came out fairly quick waited a long time for bread and our meal came out at 9:46!!! 2 hours and 15 min for an entree yikes! The food was good and a good portion. Probably won’t go back there again. Many other better places in N.End.
