Villa Firenze Ratings and Reviews
Decided to try this place out after reading good reviews, however, when we arrived I was quickly disappointed. We waited about 20 minutes before being greeted and had 3 different servers come serve our table but we didn't feel like we had received any service. The quality of food was not worth the amount we had paid.
Even better than last time. It's been a while, but I was delighted to discover that the food and service were even better. I've never been a big focaccia fan, but with the crisp crust, soft light interior, and fresh-baked smell (not sure if it was), it was suitable for a pre-meal snack without being filling.
My companion had the hand-made ravioli and I the salmon special (which was big enough for two meals). The salmon was perfectly prepared and seasoned (lemon, basil I think, and anise) with a side of linguini and crisp broccoli.
The mushroom appitizer is why we chose this place for dinner for my hubbys birthday, it is his fave dish ever. However nothing else was up to par, we made the reservation on open table and showed up on time and were told prior to being seated we would have to leave the restraunt by 7pm as they needed the table for someone else, this turned me off of the place instantly. We got seated and were given menus and placed drink orders, then placed our meal orders, they really rushed us along. My hubbys and my dish came out 10 minutes before the other 2 meals at our table did, so ours got cold while we politely waited for the other peoples meals to come. We were never asked if we wanted another drink when our glasses were empty, we were made to feel like hurry eat and get out. Then we had dessert and sat at the table for 30 minutes waiting for a server to come by to bring us the bill, finally I was able to flag someone down and they said yes why are you still here, do you need something from us...I said we are waiting for the bill...she said oh, ok.
So the rushed us, service stunk, 1/2 our meals were cold, no refil or option for more than 1 drink each and then forgotten and made to sit and wait for the bill. Very disappointed and we wont be going back, not even for the famous mushroom dish myh hubby loves.
Great food and fabulous service! Our server was very personable with a great sense of humour. Lots of menu choices with gluten free options available. The mushroom risotto was flavourful . Most of our group had the portobello mushroom appetizer and everyone really enjoyed it.
So very accommodating. I had goofed and made the reservation for 6 of us and there were 8 of us. No problem, they took a minute and got us set up. Now our hostess did say that if it was a Friday or Saturday night, it may not have been possible. So friendly, food is outstanding and a great ambiance. Made our celebration so special.
service is very good, friendly, informative, efficient,,, they have the timing down for most people, (time between each of -drinks -appetizers -main and deserts)
not recommended for those who wish to eat quickly and run on to other activities,
relax and enjoy
Of the 6 meals that were ordered, 2 were of poor quality. The Pesto linguini was below average, and I did not finish it. When the waiter asked why I hadn't eaten the pasta, I explained that the noodles were undercooked and they were sitting in oil and really just noodles in a pool of oily green goo. When I told the waiter what I didn't like about the dish, he said that they make the noodles from scratch and cook them al dente and that was supposed to be that way. He was sorry we didn't like it, but he did nothing about it. He charged both of us for it. $40 for both for plain hard undercooked noodles and oily sauce. Not much for pine nuts either. Not much flavour.
I would not recommend this dish at all.
What I would recommend is the caesar salad. It was excellent.
Over all a very expensive restaurant and I didn't like how it was handled.
Most restaurants I know would not charge you for the meal and take it off the bill. Not this one.
So I was surprised, but didn't make a big deal out of it as it was my son's birthday (he had the other pesto linguini, so his birthday meal was not a good one).
Always a treat to come here, Pina always goes the extra mile for us, I told her I had a craving for her mother's fancy spaghetti, she called her mom and got the recipe and Joe made it for me. Serving are large, we always take some home, the porta Bella mushroom was a great hit with our guests. Still my favourite restaurant.
