Good Italian food big portions retro place decent food
Monday Night Supper Club dinner specials were fabulous.
Combine it with a 2 hr caberet show.
Food continues to be like a down to earth holiday dinner
Wonderful as always!
Good food, good value. The dinner includes salad soup antipasto and main course. My husband had the lasagna and I had meat ravioli. The food was very tasty. We will go back.
The Villa D’Este is always a delightful experience with a well trained staff providing superb service. The decor always festive. More importantly the quality of the food offerings brings joy to every palette.
Villa d'Este provides quality food and a timeless environment. The entire staff treats everyone like they are special. While tradition is important to the restaurant and its patrons, Villa d'Este has made some small but needed changes such as the variety of musical entertainers accompanying your meal. Dining at Villa d'Este is a joy that enables you to experience an era and side of San Francisco that is unique, memorable and delicious.
food very good
loved oven warm bread
place was quiet, not busy on
a rainy Tuesday evening
dinner price quite reasonable for complete meal that included everything: antipasto, salad, soup, pasta, entree, bread, tea/coffee, ice cream
our party enjoyed dining at Villa D’este and will happily return
walk up the few steps from lobby to dining room was doable w walker, but not if wheelchair required
Birthday Great collaboration well done great food
This restaurant has been in business for at least 45 years. The menu is extensive, with something for every taste. It is ‘old school’ Italian with everything very fresh and nicely prepared. Service is friendly and attentive. Prices for food and drink are very reasonable.
As always, good value for the money. Delicious food. Warm, friendly, hospitable service. Totally a winner!
Nice neighborhood restaurant that has been in business for a long time. Can get crowded but usually able to get reservations at or near desired times. Servers very nice and friendly.
It is rare find to dine at this good / traditional Italian restaurant that boasts more 40 years of history ! The food is great and the owner is very kind.
Villa D'Este is our premier destination for dining each year when we make our annual romantic nostalgic trip to San Francisco. We have never been disappointed in our food selection. The entree is always delivered piping hot. I always choose a fish entree because the fish is fresh, cooked to just the right consistency and taste, a generous portion and an appetizing presentation. And the next plate is served just at the right time.
The staff is polite, friendly, smiling and welcoming. Never intrusive. The atmosphere is one of comfort and ease in the dining room, and the conversation level is low and polite.
With an unique art decor interior, it harks back to more romantic times.
For over 15 years we have dined at Villa D'Este making that drive across the Bay. We have brought family and friends there, and they all have praises for the menu, price and ambiance.
If you want a quiet, private and unhurried meal. Villa D'Este is the restaurant to go to.
One of the last old world Italian restaurants. Love it.
We were the only two in the place for brunch last Sunday. The food was just OK. I will say the corn muffins were great, but that's where the entire experience stopped. I recall brunches in the distant past that were wonderful and plentiful. It no longer is. But on the bright side, the price was very right. I was thinking of trying the place for dinner again, but I don't think so now.
This place is a portal back in time. It's elaborately decorated, like Liberace did it. The food is plentiful, delicious, and priced right. My only criticism is that the service is very slow, but that could have been deliberate because they had a singer and piano player and were not rushing us so we could enjoy that.
What a treat to find this authentic Italian gem in the Sunset neighborhood. The food was superb!
Always dependable meals here
and freshly cooked. Adequate wine and cocktails too.
We eat here often. Villa d'Este is a perfect place for those who enjoy traditional multi-course Italian dinners at a very reasonable price. You can order a la carte or get the full dinner which includes anti-pasta, soup, salad, pasta, main course, dessert, and coffee for between $20 and $25. This restaurant has been here for 90 years and under the current ownership for the past 40 years. The big bar is a friendly place to get a cocktail before dinner and the dining room has an old style art deco appearance. Lots of fish, meat, pasta and vegetarian choices on the menu. The service is very friendly with the very gracious host and owner on-site virtually every evening. Many of the employees are family members. This restaurant has a very loyal clientele who enjoy the food and family atmosphere. Very good place for families or group gatherings. Those who are looking for the newest innovations in cuisine would probably do better eating elsewhere. Live music every Friday -- piano and singer. Also entertainment on first Monday of each month.
Always like coming to the restaurant.
Really pleasant find for reasonable and delicious authentic Italian dining. Wine was reasonable and good! Parking was easy and free after 6:00. We went after day at show at Fort Mason where parking was $16. My veal dish was delish!
Always a fun place on the first monday or every friday night!
I had not been to Villa d'Este in at least 15 years and was deeply disappointed. The menu desperately needs to be updated. While it is nice to retain some of the old charm, it would be in their favor to update their style of cooking and presentation. The owners are completely out of touch and if they do not update their menu, I do not see this establishment surviving much longer.
The food was the worse that I have ever had. My Benedict eggs with bacon came with an very dark yellow hollandaise sauce with the egg on top of a sausage. Still trying to find the bacon. Fried potatoes were not fried but marinated in oil.
the place is old and really needs fresh painting and cleaning. The only positive point is our waitress who was very nice.
We, our family, are regular customers to Villa D’Este, and have been for over 35 years. Our experiences, more recently within the past year, have been just “Okay.” We miss Ramone’s Family, nephews & nieces, whose services were more friendly and less rigid. The new help-servers are polite but not very friendly. Their personalities are not exciting or personal. Other than these comments, Villa D’Este was “Okay” and we shall return just to be greeted by the Owner-Manager, Ramone.
It was a Sunday date night for us. The decor in this joint is an art deco through back. We order appetizers. I recommend the escargot. It was cooked perfectly and served in mushrooms for a twist. The full dinner is a bargain. Try it. The calamari dinner was tasty. I'll try the sole or the steak next time for variation. My husband tried the lasagna. It was good, but he will try the steak next time. The staff was very attentive. It was clearly family night on Sunday with many repeat customers.
Super people, excellent food , super price
Villa D'Este used to be our favorite restaurant. The food is still good. Unfortunately, the restaurant has not been maintained during these many years and now it is dirty and in desperate need of new paint. There were lots of cobwebs in the ladies bathroom. Many of the lights in the chandelier were out and not replaced. The place really needs a facelift. The service this last time was absolutely terrible and it wasn't even that crowded. We had to wait a very long time to get each course. We were over charged by a lot and and had to return our bill for an adjustment. We were all very disappointed. I really hope they get their act together so it can be what it once used to be.
The decor is a trip almost worth the visit. Food was ok service was efficient and friendly.
We went to hear our friend sing with her group and really enjoyed the evening.
food is okay, portions very small, thats about it, great ambiance, piano player and singer really add to the atomsphere. Small crowd that night, so they were able to play all the requests for various songs
would go back for a drink or coffee and dessert to listen to the music
Old-style Italian, leisurely dining. Ala carte or 5-courses. Sweetbreads! Reasonable cost.
This is a classic old Italian restaurant. The service is impeccable, the ambiance very nice. The prices are a true value. My only criticism is that my calamari steak was very bland, with just breading, no spices or sauce. We also had the escargot, which was amazing, and the eggplant Parmesan which was very good.
Neighborhood delight. An alternative to fast / quick food . Complete dining experience offering several options. Personal Attention from Owner as well as wait staff.
Server was very attentive and unobtrusive. Food was good. Restaurant was not very busy. We sat there for hours talking and they never tried to shoo us out. I would go back again.
Always a pleasure having dinner and entertainment here.
This was such a fun dinner. The restaurant is a kick back to the 70s (maybe 60s). The food was good, not haute cuisine, but enjoyable. They have a full bar and we were able to enjoy cocktails with our antipasto. The dinning room is also amazing. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The value is the best I've seen in years.
How have I missed this place in the 37 years I've lived in S.F.? This place was super cool old school Italian. The servers were very attentive, the food was reasonably priced, and it was delicious. This is going on our list of places to take friends to.
We were seated promptly. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. We'll be back.
