About Villa Capri Ristorante
Villa Capri is a small privately owned Italian restaurant located in Carmel Valley. Chef Antonio was born and trained in Italy and has brought his amazing talents here to San Diego. Co-owner Salvatore is from the island of Capri and has brought all the charms of the island with him to share with us.

Villa Capri Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
This has become one of my favorite restaurants. It was a wonderful visit, as usual. Service was great without having to wait at any time during the meal, whether it be just coming by to check on us, refilling beverages, clearing plates, etc. There were a variety of specials, including a SEAFOOD LASAGNA that I've decided I could be happy eating every day! It was sooo good. I also appreciate that it's not a super noisy restaurant so it's enjoyable to have a conversation with friends. Great atmosphere, great service and great food.
Another great meal a Villa Capri!
This is very nice Italian restaurant that is owned and run by an Italian from Milan. I think that is one of the reasons that the food, the wine, and the service, are all so great. If you're looking for really good Italian, then this place should definitely be on your list.
Villa Capri is one of the best Italian restaurants in San Diego. I've been several times with family and friends, and it was the only restaurant my brother wanted for his birthday dinner. Our family favorite salad is the Panzanella Toscana (perfection for my palate), and honorable mention to the caprese and Grano Antico salads.
Pizza is delicious - about as similar to Naples pizza as I've found anywhere in California. Pasta is always perfectly al dente, and I even risked the gnocchi last week (difficult to get right - often has a very chewy texture) and loved it! I'm not a seafood fan, so I can't speak personally to the quality of their seafood, but many people seem to enjoy their clam dishes. I love the Pollo alla Sorrentina.
We drive from Escondido/Fallbrook for this restaurant.
Service was outstanding, we also tried two wines from the menu which turned out to be great (which is very unique for us because we are very picky on wines)
The main issue was noise - we came at 7pm, and i noted that the noise level went down significantly after 8pm, for the next time...
Dishes were ok but not beyond that, chicken breast went too dry and Salmon got too much of sea taste.
Desert chocolate cake was fabulous, succeeded to eat half and took the other half home :-)
" Once Again Some Of The Best Italian Dinners "
My wife and I returned to Villa Capri in the Piazza Carmel Shopping Center in Del Mar today and once again had some 5 + star meals. This small hole in the wall restaurant continues to impress us and continues to get better ever time we go there. Derrick our server was very nice and answered all of our menu questions and was very honest with his evaluation of different Villa Capri Dishes. My wife and I shared the Villa Capri Salad Dinner which has Mixed greens, d'anjou pears, grapes, caramelized walnuts, Gorgonzola, and balsamic vinaigrette. For the main dinner meals my wife had the Ravioli Caprese Dinner which is Villa Capri's Signature dish, made with homemade ravioli, Ricotta, marjoram, Parmesan, and fresh tomato sauce. She said it was delicious. I tried the Melanzane alla Parmigiana Dinner which was Eggplant, fresh basil, tomato sauce, Mozzarella, parmigiano-reggiano and was served with a side of spaghetti. The thin cut eggplant with the so tasty crust was awesome. Every time we come her we try something new and are never disappointed. For our dessert we shared the Panna Cotta, which was a delicate traditional pudding made with low-fat yogurt and served with a sweet red wine reduction and fresh berries. It was delicious again ! This Restaurant is So GOOD !
This Villa Capri keeps growing and improving. It's just amazing. The hostess, a woman from Italy, cares more about the customer than any person I have met at any restaurant. To give you an example: I am plant based. So I ordered their Vegan Ravioli, which I found to be mushy. She said: "let me give you the regular vegetable ravioli. It's my favorite. To make it vegan, we will just omit the gorgonzola sauce on top".
Well, it's her favorite and is now mine. She even gave me a 'go veggie' parmesan like vegan topping for the ravioli. Bravo!
The quality certainly is food from Italy, not our American 'Italian Style' Food, that we get at so many local 'Italian' restaurants.
The ambiance is romantic and upscale even though it's in a small shopping mall. Unexpected quality. And top shelf customer service. Who could ask for anything more?
Grazie Villa Capri!
Healthy Happy Eating,
" Sonny is Professional, Knowledgeable & Funny "
My wife and I went back to the Villa Capri Italian restaurant again for dinner, and again had a wonderful experience, Sonny our server was again awesome, as he is not only was in charge of the entire restaurant, but handled our table again with such professionalism. Sonny has a great and funny attitude, and is so knowledgeable about the meals served at Villa Capri. Chef Soul made our two dinners, and food runner Juan brought them out to us. My wife and I shared a Villa Capri salad which was very good. My wife then had the Penne Villa Capri, which is mild Italian sausage, artichoke hearts, bell pepper, and a pink tomato sauce. My wife said it was very tasty. I had the Pollo Parmigiana which is baked lightly breaded natural chicken breast, mozzarella cheese and spaghetti, in marinara sauce. The chicken was so tender and light, and the sauce was so good. Villa Capri homemade italian bread that comes with the meals is delicious. For our dessert we shared the Panna Cotta, which was a delicate traditional pudding made with low-fat yogurt and served with a sweet red wine reduction and fresh berries. It was delicious ! Every time we go to this restaurant in Del Mar, we are very pleased with the service and meals.
I've been to Villa Capri many times as it's in my neighborhood. My latest experience was lacking in a few areas. The shrimp wrapped in bacon was much too overcooked. The dish was tasteless and shrimp tough. I cook shrimp all the time at home and understand you must time it or it's
ruined. The dish was priced about $23 and had a few vegetables, also nothing special, on the side with mashed potato. The salad with salmon was good. We should have ordered just salmon and I would have been much happier. I believe there was only one waiter and busboy on that evening. The service was much too slow for me. All my other experiences at this restaurant have been positive so I'm thinking it was just an off night for them. I'll give it another try.
A great neighborhood Italian restaurant with dishes from your childhood, if you are a Baby Boomer, that are plentiful and have a lot of flavor. The wine list is not large but well thought out to complement your dining choices. Our waiter, Sonny, was energetic but not overbearing. He helped with our wine choice and insured we had a stress free dining experience.
" Once Again A Very Good Meal "
My wife and I went back to the Villa Capri Italian Restaurant in Del Mar for dinner last week. We were met at the counter by our server Sonny who was very nice. Sonny explained the menu specials to us, and after taking our orders came back several times to make sure we had everything we needed and were satisfied. My wife and I shared a Caesar Classica
romaine salad with shaved Parmesan cheese, homemade croutons, and creamy Caesar dressing. The dressing is home made and very tasty. My wife's entree was Gnocchi alla Sorrentina, one of Villa Capri signature dishes, with homemade potato dumplings, mozzarella cheese, and a choice of tomato basil sauce or homemade pesto. My wife loves the homemade green pesto. For my entree I tried their Quattro Formaggi Pizza, which had pecorino, mozzarella, gorgonzola, parmesan cheeses, and I added some delicious pepperoni on it. The pizza was thin crust and very good. For dessert my wife and I shared a Budino di Pane which is Chef Antonio's Signature Bread Pudding, with Caramel Sauce. YUM ! This small " hole in the wall " Italian restaurant, is a great place to enjoy some original Italian cuisine. Check it out !
First time eating there. On a Friday night, made a reservation half hour before we arrived. Seated right away. Great server. DH had caprese salad, I had caesar salad. We both had chicken sorrentine. For dessert, DH had tiramisu and I had cannoli. All the food was great and reasonably priced. Had a very good bottle of wine for $28. Fresh bread and marinara sauce to start. A real gem, and we will be back for sure.
After we tried to make an Open Table reservation for Mia Francesca in Del Mar and discovered that it had closed two weeks earlier, we went to Villa Capri for dinner. We had planned on dining there many times, but it was always easier to go to Mia. Our first experience with this Italian restaurant was more than satisfying, it was very pleasurable. Our server, Sonny, was very attentive, but not obtrusive, knowledgeable of the menu and the outstanding wine list and made several excellent suggestions for food and wine pairing. This restaurant has the Italian favorites we all grew up eating including Veal and Chicken Parm, Spaghetti and Meatballs, etc. The night we were there, they had a variety of 'specials' including fresh Halibut. Be sure to try the artichoke appetizer as it is cooked perfectly with a garlic and lemon/olive oil sauce. Our server, Sonny, told us the owner of this restaurant also owns Sea Salt which we well try for the first time very soon. Sonny is not only a server, but the Catering Manager for both restaurants.
Disappointing. Food was decent and prices were moderate. The hostess was kind of grump. Music was loud like a techno dance bar, and the hostess grumped at my wife when she asked to turn it down (but she did turn it down). Poor choice of music for an Italian restaurant. Pasta dishes were good. Pesto Gnochi was great. Veal Scallopine was mediocre, and that is supposedly one of their best dishes. Prices are reasonable, so good place to take kids. Waiter was very nice, happy, and attentive. Due to the grumpy hostess, poor ambiance, and middling food though, we probably won't go back.
" Great Service With Outstanding & Tasty Food "
My wife and I visited the Villa Capri Italian Restaurant in Del Mar today, and had a great experience. The restaurant is located in the Piazza Carmel Shopping Center in Del Mar. We were met at the front counter by Libano Sanchez who was our server. Libano was very nice and was very honest, sincere and funny, as he was answering all of our questions about the big Villa Capri menu offerings. For the Appetizer we had the Carciofi alla Giudea, which was
Grilled roman jewish style baby artichokes, garlic, Italian parsley, fresh basil, olive oil melanzane. These were the most tender and best tasting Artichokes I have ever had. For our main entrees we had the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina Dinner which is one of Villa Capri's Signature dishes. It had homemade potato dumplings, mozzarella, choice of tomato basil sauce or homemade pesto. We also had a Lasagna Bolognese Dinner which was a Classic meat lasagna, ricotta, bechamel, mozzarella and a delicious Marinara sauce. The portions at Villa Capri are very big, and both dishes were some of the best tasting meals we have ever tasted in an Italian restaurant . For dessert my wife had the Panna Cotta which was a Delicate traditional pudding made with low-fat yogurt served with a sweet red wine reduction and fresh berries. It was Soooooo Good, and large. I tried the Budino di Pane which is Chef Antonio's signature bread pudding with caramel sauce. It was so smooth and very tasty. While we were at Villa Capri we had the pleasure of meeting Laura Bottoglia the owner of the restaurant, who was very pleasant to talk with, as she answered some questions we had about the procedures in the restaurant. Villa Capri also has Catering and Delivery service from this Del Mar location. This restaurant is well worth the trip to Del Mar, you will be very pleased with your dinner experience !
The food is always wonderful! And, the setting is charming -- smallish restaurant with white table cloths, etc. Our only disappointment was that 3 of us wanted the lamb special and although we ordered by 7-7:15PM they only had two left. I ordered something else which I thoroughly enjoyed but I did not expect a restaurant to run out of its evening special so very early in the evening.
We've been there a few times and love their food and the restaurant. Like many restaurants in San Diego County it is located in a strip mall so the arrival setting is just OK. But, that is insignificant really as the staff, decor, food, etc. is all simply lovely.
My last visit was on Valentine's Day and the establishment was packed, thus the service was slow. And this was expected and thus did not have a negative impact on the diner. My wife and I had a very romantic diner as the delays just gave us more time to talk and take things leisurely. Note that the water and the bread did come to the table quickly. as well as the glasses of wine but it did take time to place the order and get the food. The server did apologies a couple times for the delay without any prompting but we were enjoying our conversation and the wine so again no big deal. My wife and I have frequently this establishment many times and have never been disappointed by the food and this was no exception. The salads and the meals were great. The only compliant was when this place is packed the noise level is high and being a senior makes it difficult to hear the conversation with my wife. Based on what I saw, it looked like everyone was having a great time. I love the sauces on their pastas as well as the flavor and texture of their homemade pastas. I recommend this establishment to friends and family.
This is a lovely authentic Italian restaurant in an upscale shopping plaza in Carmel Valley, San Diego. There is a small outdoor patio with umbrellas and a comfortable indoor restaurant with a fireplace and comfortable booths and tables. The service is always good and professional.
The food has never disappointed me and would be considered comfort food, lots of good pastas
and Italian dishes. It's what I consider a neighborhood gem. I've gone there a number of times since moving to the area and will be returning soon.
Waiter and busboy in a huge rush. We told them we needed a few minutes and hovered like fly's. Waiter kept interrupting us.
Plates were plopped onto our table.
Bar menus front page items not available to order, they're working on it?
Meatballs were tough.
I would not go back. This was our first visit. Capri Bleu is great, this one is not.
