Vignola & Cinque Terre Ratings and Reviews
My 2 friends and I had a wonderful evening experience when we dined there on 2/10/18. The table was lovely and the server was professional and attentive. The food from appetizers through main course and dessert was fresh, well prepared and delicious. We had a variety of dishes from the menu and each was beautifully presented and a treat for the taste buds. I will certainly return.
Very disappointed. Was told this was a fabulous place and we would enjoy tremendously. We had one gluten free guest and two vegetarians. They would only offer eggplant Parmesan and the gluten free pasta wasn’t cooked thoroughly. The trainee was personable and helpful but our waitress barely acknowledged our table forcing us to call out as she passed us by. Very very disappointed. Extremely pricy for mediocre food and poor service
Easy reservation process. We arrived on time (7:30) and were escorted to our table for 6...special occasion for the family. Immediately told that two menu items were not available - staples of their menu - eggplant and calamari(it was only 7:30 ...on a Saturday night!)??? and....their beer tap system was not working disappointing two craft beer fanatics! Then we found out that two other website Menu items had not been available for a month. No where on the website does it mention that the menu was only an sample...appetizers were fine, but 5 out of 6 of the entrées' were not worth the price...actually disappointing! No apology, no concession....no going back...ever! Stay away!
We were sent to the back room, which was odd since there were empty tables in the main dining room, and which I don't recommend because it feels like you're dining in a storage area next to the washrooms..... Service made up for it as it was prompt, friendly and efficient. The food was ok with some high notes (octopus, Brussels sprouts), some low (lamb bruschetta). Perfectly ok for a quick casual dine out.
High cost, medium food, low service. We came here on a recommendation and we were very excited to try. We were in town to plan our wedding and required very little from our dinner service to continue our otherwise great weekend with our parents. However, after waiting 30 minutes for our drinks, our next interaction with our server, Sarah, was for her to tell us not to expect our food to come quickly if we chose to order from the entree menus. This was bizarre, as we were here for dinner and presumably that means ordering entrees, and other than waiting far too long for our first drinks, we were perfectly content having a leisurely dinner. From this interaction throughout the rest of our meal, we experienced nothing but rudeness and lack of attention (we would have ordered appetizers and more drinks had she come to our table more than three times) from our server. On top of that, our food was mediocre at best. With the high quality Portland has to offer, choose somewhere else.
I remember Vignola being a great place to grab a painless but upscale dinner in the heart of portland. When I went there the other day, the food was stale, the staff was uninspired and the atmosphere was dead. Hope they can figure it out, great location/windows.
This place was very nice. The quality of food was great. I do have one issue. When I spend a decent amount of money on a meal, I do not expect to be charged a fee when I ask for some red sauce on the side for an appetizer . (or at least tell me before you bring the bill-hoping we do not notice. )
Our meal was excellent particularly the appetizers; I'd consider just doing a variety of apps next time I'm there. My only complaint... it was bitter cold the night we were there and sitting by the big windows in front, we ate with our coats on to ward off the chill slipping through the windows. Back room probably was warmer.
This is my fourth time visiting. The food has been underwhelming and overpriced each time. Why did I return? They were the only ones with an open reservation on Christmas Eve. Their pizzas are the best thing on the menu, and are actually decent. The drinks are fine, but you can find better close by. The bar area is pretty. Service has been sub-par each time as well. I would go somewhere else.
Prompt, attentive, and informed server. Delicious swordfish and rigatoni. Unimpressed with green salad- butter lettuce and radishes with barely a hint of dressing. Great desserts. Tiny amount of bread to start. No refills. Good wine, cheese, and coffee selections. Very pricey.
Take the reviews of poor service seriously. Our waiter was not at all gracious in her interactions with us. To the point that her appearance at our table became uncomfortable.
Food was not the quality expected. Pasta in one dish was undercooked (not close to al dente), and the other dish overly dry. Worse, within an hour of arriving home, my dinner companion and I both felt ill. We suspect it was something in the appetizer we shared.
Had a much better experience the night before at Petite Jacqueline’s where the service was gracious and the food well prepared and presented.
We have been to Vignola 2-3 times previously, so we booked the reservation knowing we would have great service and a great meal. Drinks were great (I’m pregnant so I only had soda water), but service was just ok and food wasn’t much better. Fourtunately our server took part of the meal off (a side dish), as we didn’t take more than a bite.
It was disappointing knowing in the past our experience was amazing. We probably will not return.
Went as group of six for birthday celebration. Seated right on time. Comfortable table and atmosphere. Wait staff was prompt and attentive. Staff knew menu, specials and drinks available and made excellent recommendations. Timing of meal components was spot on, and everyone's meal was thoroughly enjoyed . Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Salted caramel Budino. Start with an amazing dessert! Very quiet Sunday night in mid-November, wine list getting a bit pricey but they do have some really very good Italian reds. Get their charcuterie. Homemade duck bacon! The whole platter was excellent. I went old school with their own fettucini and sausage. It was actually quite light and very good. But you have to have that dessert. Waitress a wee bit bored but the service was fine.
This restaurant is perfectly located in the middle of Old Port! This was my fourth time dining here and it didn't disappoint. We had delicious appetizers, dinner, and desserts. The drinks were fabulous too! Great atmosphere for a group of women to eat and enjoy good company.
Went to Vignola for a pre-symphony dinner. We had the warm dates and Arancini for appetizers. They were good, but a little under-seasoned. Like may restaurants today, no salt and pepper on the table because I guess it's insulting to the chef to re-season their food. Well, okay then, they need to do a better job. We had pork, veal and fettuccini bolognese. These were all good. My biggest gripe was the waitress. She seemed very under-trained and a little uncomfortable. When we didn't want an alcoholic beverage, specifically beer, she didn't know where to go from there. This would be okay if it was an inexpensive restaurant, but I expect a little more at a restaurant of this caliber. I would try it again, but probably not before trying the plethora of other great restaurants in the city.
This was a Monday night visit - maybe a substitute chef? Their house pizza is usually amazing. Hot, gooey and with a delicious hint of oregano. We ordered pizza and a pasta. The pizza was burned on the bottom, had cooled so the cheese balls congealed and there was NO hint of oregano. On the other hand, the bolognese was hot and steaming but had such an overpowering sage flavor that it distracted from the dish's other attributes. We have had these dishes many times so we know when they are excellent. Something was very wrong this Monday night with timing and seasoning. As for service, it was incredibly slow. We'll go back only because we know that they can do better - but if you didn't know that, you might not try again.
My husband and I were on a little getaway in August 2017. We had heard about Vignola Cinque Terre and were thrilled with our meals. We sat in a corner window. The waitress was quick and attentive. My Manhattan was the best I've had in years. The food was delicious from the appetizer, entree to the dessert and it was hot (one of my husband's pet peeves).
We had New Year's Eve reservations but had to cancel since my husband was sick. We can't wait to return.
