Permanently Closed - Vignola & Cinque Terre
Our wine and beer selection showcases varietals from around the world that aren’t available anywhere else in New England. We’re really looking forward to sharing these "secret finds".
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Great for drinks, apps and small plates. Entree menu limited and seems oddly mixed with pizza.
Love the menu and the chef's abilities. I was just a little disappointed that they did not have bluecheese stuffed olives for my Martinis. Great ambience, nice music, good subtle lighting. Great time there with friends.
way to loud , tables much too close. Would do better to remove a table instead of having the next on within elbow length
Vignola Cinque Terra is well worth a visit. Great location on a cobblestone street in the Old Port. The food is excellent. I had sole that came with three large shrimp, my husband had duck scallopini over fetuccini, both excellent. The atmosphere in the front room is very nice with brick walls, lots of windows, a pretty bar. Note there is a back dining room also (this the 3 stars..) but as far as we could see it has no atmosphere at all, so avoid that
Excellent food and great service. Accommodating for vegetarians and fantastic wine selection.
We wanted a special place to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary and are so glad we chose Vignola. Our meals were delicious and the service was excellent! We will definitely be back!
I have been here a few times ambiance & food were always excellent . Wait service was ok , they didn’t have wine on wine list , never told us about specials & main courses very incredibly small but prices were not . It was never like that on previous visits .
Waitress was nice, unfortunately food was uniformly cold (even the pizza). Wine list extremely limited.
It's been years since I have been in but I have to say this time a disappointment. Drinks were tiny and watered down. Food was so salty and veggies undercooked (Beets for salad and Parsnips with Deep Fried Pork) that we had to send our entrees back. We received a complimentary glass of wine for our inconvenience. But charged full price for replacement entree.
Worst charcuterie and cheese board EVER. We went there specially for this which happens to be their specialty. We were served old cheese that had been diced and sliced up and clearly left out @ $6.00 per cheese, and the “wagu beef” we ordered came out and they told us it had run out so they substituted pancetta. It was strips of thin bacon. Bartender didn’t even work there so she couldn’t tell us what cheese was what and didn’t know what the wine we ordered even was. It was on the menu. We went on the last day of restaurant week and it was recommended to us. It was literally awful. Never again will we go there. Totally disappointing
Food was subpar for cost. Service was terrible, never replaced silverware or offered to clean off table. Bar tender refused to make a specific cocktail. Never going back
Slow and ostentatious service with food that sounds good on the menu, but is greatly disappointing to the palate.
The service was ok to really good depending on what station you were seated in. Our server was not overly engaged which we found out when a different one came to the table next to us and offered specials for the night and really highlighted certain items. It is obvious that the food is made from scratch and presented well. My wife’s rigatoni was exceptionally salty and my eggplant was under cooked although still tasty. The drinks were mixed well and the dessert cake was delicious. We will return again to see if the flaws were just an off night or not
Very very loud, service slow
Pasta extremely oversalted
Overall the food was well prepared - small portions
The service was very good, Rebecca was wonderful. The atmosphere is nice in there. The food, unfortunately left much to be desired. The green salad was plentiful but the dressing tasted like it was a heavy drizzling of honey, much too sweet and it detracted from the beautiful greens that in and of themselves are delicious and would have been better served with a light vinaigrette perhaps with a hint of sweetness. The Eggplant Parmesan visually was over stimulating on a pool of bright green puree and mounded with shredded radicchio. The flavor was underwhelming. The Short Rib dish was extremely dry and the edges were crusted over and hard to chew. The mashed potatoes were flavorful and nicely done and frankly the only good thing about that entree.
It has been some time since I'd been to Vignola / Cinque Terre and my memories of it were much better than the experience the other night. I don't eat there often enough to tell you this is the exception and not the rule. Because there are so many other choices in a city heavy with culinary opportunities, we won't be back. =(
Made a reservation on Open Table after looking at their website to see their hours and when we arrived it looked like the restaurant never opened with no sign explaining why. We had taken Uber. Thanks Vignola!
A friend of mine recommended this restaurant. My husband and I made reservations ahead of time. When we arrived there was no hostess. After a while, the bartender said someone would be with us. A guy, who appeared to possibly be the manager or just a waiter seated us. The restaurant had maybe 2-3 other parties. The restaurant was extremely understaffed. The guy who seated us was the only waiter for the entire restaurant. We waited a very long time before we were asked for our drink orders. While we waited to order our meals, numerous couples and parties would walk in and walk out of the restaurant because no one came to help them at the hostess desk. The service was extremely slow, due to there being only one waiter. There was also one bar tender who stayed behind the bar. Our food was good, average. The waiter never apologized or gave an explanation to the clearly slower than normal service. At the end of the meal when we asked for the check, we asked what was going on and if this was normal. The waiter then told us 2 of the waitors called out. We will not be back.
Wonderful the waiter pretty much did everything and everything was still great
For the type and quality of food that you are offering the wine selection is quite poor. Especially the by the glass options. The quality of all of those wines was much lower than I would have expected and it is ridiculous to be charging customers quadruple the price of a bottle in store for a bottle in the restaurant (most cost around $10 in store which means the restaurant gets them for less...and they are charging $40 per bottle. Disappointing!). You should pick more moderately priced wines of better quality and charge around the same price (so closer to maybe triple wholesale price) to offer the customer a better experience. I saw that many yelp reviews liked the wine list but I would strongly disagree. I was expecting a much better range of wines. Quite disappointed.
We enjoyed the beer selection as well as our cheese board. My beet salad was average. Some of the beets seemed like they weren’t ripe. The slab of Brie cheese on the salad could have been improved by another cheese. However i loved the salad dressing and pomegranate seeds. My fiancé got the seafood penne which must have been ready to be delivered to our table at least 10 minutes before it came. The shrimp was over cooked and the pasta was cold. We enjoyed the ambiance and location of the restaurant.
We've been to Vignola & Cinque Terre many times (sometimes with friends/visitors) and have always enjoyed the food, service, and ambience. Last night was no exception. Our server was Rebecca, who was friendly, gracious, and efficient. For starters, the (optional) bread and olive oil dip are always a treat. On this occasion, we split an octopus/pork belly appetizer and dessert (a blood orange panne cotta. Both were exceptional & beautifully presented. Our main courses were a seafood/roasted cauliflower risotto, and lamb fixed two ways. In a word, outstanding. We had a corner table, in this beautiful, atmospheric locale affording a view of the street. Vignola is always lively and a joy to dine in. Can't wait to return.
Spent more than 20 minutes trying to pay the bill. Other than that our server was great and the overall experience amazing.
Food was ok but not worth the price. Server was rushing us, felt like we were at a chain restaurant and did not check in about food. Pasta wasn’t that great and the oysters were not separated from shell. Beet salad was not interesting and overpriced. The best part of meal was dessert and even that was nothing to write home about. Wouldn’t go back especially with so many great options at less price in Portland.
Lovely Valentine’s meal! Food was outstanding. Ambiance was romantic. Service was impeccable. Bravo!
The restaurant is beautiful! The exposed brick, the big windows, lighting, all of it. The server was lovely and efficient.
The restaurant was kind enough to fit us in earlier than our original reservation time which we so appreciated!! The restaurant is beautiful and a setting that we all loved. The server was really nice and professional as well. I have to say that we were terribly disappointed beyond that. The wine list is really limited. When we ordered wine, the glasses that were used were basic banquet glasses. I asked if we get the big glasses like the other table and she said they were l out. She did be bring me one after which I appreciated but, it seemed odd that there were t enough to cover the restaurant. The apps were rest but it ended there. The risotto did was disgusting. My risotto was steam hot and then cold in the center. The veal “Milanese” was atrocious. There were 4 pieces that were deep fried not pan fried and certainly not seasoned. It honest looked like it came from a sub shop and not a restaurant at this price point. 3 of us had it and all felt the same. The others were on with the pizzas and our friend really liked the bolognese. The experience and the food was such a disappointment. At that price point, we would have expected something much different.
We had a perfect night! Great atmosphere, food was awesome, waitress attentive. Couldn't ask for anything more!
Cinque Terre was a lovely restaurant. Had dinner with friends. Good menu, very creative. The sole was delicious. The homemade pasta was perfectly prepared.
We were there on a cold January night and the restaurant was warm and welcoming. Our server was very attentive. Try the arincini and the meatballs for appetizers.
The food, cocktails, and waitstaff were AMAZING! Beautiful atmosphere, noise level was perfect. Attention to detail, beautiful playing, everything was perfect. Get the short ribs!
We’ve been here several times. Pleasant surroundings, inventive, locally sourced menu, kind and attentive staff. I should mention that our Portland visits are generally off-season, so crowds not an issue. The Portland scene has a certain “foodie” aura in places where the chefs and staff see themselves as a priesthood---a little off-putting, given what ultimately arrives at the table. None of that is true here.
We visit Portland twice per year and almost always eat at Vignola's. It's reliable with out being crazy over the top. Service was terrific-food took a little longer but it was NY'S Eve and luckily we were happy to just sit and enjoy our cocktails and company. We will be back!
Sole entree very good. Short rids tasty but rather dry. Vegetables too hard on all meals. Good waiter but they were extremely short staffed so service very slow. Nice atmosphere.
Another beautiful meal! We had the Feast of the Seven Fishes tasting menu, and it was incredible! Great value for 5 courses and huge portions! Can’t wait to go back!
We have enjoyed dining at Cinque Terre a number of times over the years and recalled some outstanding meals but, frankly, this time was just plain disappointing. The menu was fairly limited, so 3 people in our party ended up ordering the same pasta dish as their entree. We waited a long time for the meals to be delivered and when the dishes arrived we were surprised that the portions were pretty small. After all was said and done 3 pasta dishes, a daily special entree, 2 appetizer dishes and 3 alcoholic beverages came to $175, $200 with tip, and we were not impressed. I'm sorry to say, we will not be returning.
Service was slow- took three hours from our moment of arrival to our departure.
Food was good, but we can find at least the equivalent elsewhere and have better service.
Long wait times for our waiter to appear, return to take drink order, give water, check on us, etc. It seemed half the staff left halfway through the night. Pasta was delicious but overpriced for the small portions. Beer selection was unoriginal. Meh...
Excellent food and service. If you want a quiet experience, ask to be seated in the back room if it is available. The front of the restaurant is very loud.
Cheese board was amazing! Our waitress was not very "welcoming" she was not very "cheery" seemed to be just doing a job. The atmosphere is very nice for a date night or bday dinner.
