Victor's 1959 Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The service was wonderful - everyone working there was so genuinely nice and really made us feel welcome. The food was absolutely delicious. I got the chicken fricasee and my husband got the shrimp criollo. Both were awesome, I cannot recommend the chicken fricasee enough. We had crab cakes and black bean soup as appetizers, which were both also really good. The crab cakes are a little pricy for what you get, but very delicious, so I thought they were worth it. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!
When it’s ten below in Minnesota, who doesn’t think immediately of Havana? :) I usually think of Victor’s as a good summer evening meal, but winter is great too! I had their wonderful seafood paella, and companion had the special - a meatloaf with a chorizo baked into the middle! Both were perfect for the weather. Service was cheery as always. And there is always all of the writing on the walls to read. Don’t hesitate to enjoy this place any time of year.
We loved Victor's! We weren't sure what Cuban food would be like, but it was delicious. Wonderful blends of flavors. Four of us each got something different, and as we shared, we couldn't decide what was the best because it was all so good. Wonderful, attentive service by Cara-I don't know how their tiny kitchen turns out the food as fast as it does.
I have to recommend the black bean soup-best I've ever had.
Also, the pina colado cake and flan were fabulous desserts.
Met up with some friends to try Victor's and we were not disappointed! The decor inside is fun and unique. The food was prompt and tasted delicious. We had four people try four different dishes (two people were vegetarian) and we all really enjoyed our meals. Would highly recommend!
Unfriendly hostess. Food was bland and the meat entrees were tough and flavorless. We were rushed out of our booth before we could even order dessert because they "needed the table." I went with high expectations for authentic Cuban cuisine and was very disappointed. I will never go back.
After driving by over the years, we finally decided to come in and sample the food - and boy are we glad we did! We had a delightful meal with old friends, the food was excellent, service outstanding, and we will definitely be going back for some of the flavors I can still taste in my mind's mouth.
Food is good for Cuban via Minnesota (average for real Cuban food). My problem with Victor’s is the value. Their prices are 50% too expensive for what you get. I will not be returning for dinner. There are other latin restaurant that are way better both in quality and taste of food and value in the twin cities.
We had the crab cakes and watermelon salad for starters. Both were excellent. I had the creole shrimp which came with large shrimp in a perfectly spicy sauce with rice and yuca. My boyfriend had the picadillo de la cubana.....ground beef in a creole sauce with potatoes and plantains. Both dishes were extremely tasty! For dessert we had the cream cheese and apple empanadas.....left us wanting more!
Though the establishment is small the staff is friendly and, if you need help in your choices, they're well-knowledged! The food is wonderful!
Loved the food and the unique ambiance. Reasonably priced, excellent service, ample portions. And chocolate cake to celebrate my wife's birthday was not only complimentary, but seriously excellent, though I'm sure it's made elsewhere.
The only disappointment which we should have remembered from a previous visit to Victor's is the extremely small wine pours. Next time we'll either go when we're not imbibing, i.e. breakfast or lunch , or have a pre-dinner adult beverage elsewhere. $7.95 for about 4 ounces of a so-so Spanish or Chilean wine that I know retails for $6.99 a bottle is just ridiculous.
My suggestion to the owner: either make the pours larger, say 6 ounces minimum, or lower the price. I won't be buying a glass or bottle of wine here in the future. Pricing the $6.99 bottle (retail) at $23 for the Tempranillo and $25 for the Malbec is insanity. And one person in our party had a bottle of Spanish beer which was almost $6. Again, overpriced for the venue.
All in all we will be back....for the food and for the atmosphere, which is really fun and unique.
Brought an out-of-town foodie guest who loved it. Said it would be their go-to local place if they lived here.
We had the yuca frita and the empanadas to start. Both were delicious. Entrees varied from Cubano sandwich to Paella and Picadillo. No one was disappointed.
Also great vegetarian options.
I've been to Victor's at least 20 times and have never left disappointed.
The food at Victor's is always great. Our server was super helpful and accomodating to one of us that had food restrictions. She really went out of her way to help my friend out, and was super friendly and reassuring about it. Very grateful for the awesome staff!
What a wonderful restaurant. Great Cuban food, cute eclectic design. It is small, so I suggest making a reservation. Service was a bit spotty, but overall loved it and will return. We had the cheese empanadas (delicious), the pulled pork (amazing), the Cuban (great) and the flank steak (love the creole sauce). Everything was outstanding. We even tried a cream cheese roll for dessert coated in cinnamon and sugar (yum!). Definitely worth the trip. Go early if you can, the patio fills up by 6:30.
One of us ordered the jerk chicken from the daily special. Got the tilapia instead and the server did not even notice that there was a mistake. had to ask for the to go box twice. felt that the server was not focused on the task at hand. Pretty expensive place
