Victor's 1959 Cafe
Visited in 2008 & again in 2018 by Food Network's Guy Fieri, Diner's Drive-ins and Dives, who cooked up "off the hook" Cuban food with owner Niki Stavrou. Check our website to watch the episode!
We're a tiny restaurant with only 10 tables inside and 10 more tables on our tropical summer patio. Enjoy our Wines, Beers, Tropical Mimosas and Champagne Mojitos!
Also popular for our unique breakfast menu, served every day! No reservations for breakfast or lunch, just come on in...
5 mins from Downtown/Uptown 15 minutes from Mpls/St Paul Int'l airport.
Loved it! Food was absolutely delicious and ambience was great!
Victor's is truly a one-of-a-kind restaurant that serves great food in a quirky, fun environment.
Very good Cuban inspired food. Had the coconut shrimp for appetizer and it was delicious. Loved that it wasn’t deep fried and the accompanying sauce was perfect. Main entree was the Picadillo a la Cubana. Was very good but you better love green olives. The rice was a touch dry but the ground beef in the creole sauce was great. Desert was the Xango! Chango! and it did not disappoint. A creamy tangy cream cheese filling wrapped in pastry deep fried and with cinnamon sugar. It was a very light deep fry and done so that it was crisp but not crunchy.
Parents/Grandparents visiting from out of state
It feels great to sit outside at this little
Cafe and enjoy the surrounding neighborhood.
This is quite good, if not extraordinary, Cuban food served in a fun, hip atmosphere. The place is small so be prepared to wait, or make reservations ahead of time!
Love the food and the service. Just a bit pricey, but it's worth it!
Absolutely delicious! I had the lamb stew from their winter menu. The meatball appetizer was amazing and addictive as the menu indicated as well. Highly recommend!
The food was good. Some things could have been better. The happy hour drinks are a good deal but overall the prices should be a couple of $ cheaper for size/quality/ambiance.
Excellent food, service, and atmosphere, Victor's never disappoints with the quality.
Food is amazing. Street parking, but never difficult to find a spot. Our server was uninterested in interacting with our group and did a bare minimum (ie gave us water, but never refilled glasses; walked away as a member of our group was trying to chat with them casually). It wasn’t a busy night, but everyone has a bad day right? Food made up for it and we’ll be back.
Always enjoy Victors....in fact first comment from my table all of whom have been to Cuba...Victor's has the best Cuban food....anywhere including Cuba!
In our view this was a 5 star experience. It is very casual and laid back. Graffiti on the walls etc. Small intimate building. If you are looking for 5 star in terms of linens, fancy, expensive - this is not it! But if you are looking for 5 star in terms of unique flavors, friendly staff, casual ambiance, fun, festive, quality food then this is it!
Earlier in the week my wife was trying to describe her ideal day. In the middle of dinner, she told me "this is my ideal day - eating at Victor's 1959 Cafe with her best friend." The food was great, servers were cheerful and helpful. The mango cheesecake was exceptional, served with Cuban coffee.
Surprised by quality of lamb stew and cuban sandwich at very reasonable prices.
Tiny, delightful find we will certainly return to. Interesting food for each course, delicious flavors and sauces. Can’t go wrong ordering.
The food was phenomenal and everyone found something to fill their belly!
The food is amazing! I’ve had both breakfast and dinner at Victor’s, and both menus are tremendous. Highly recommended.
One of MPLS’ gems. Period.
Great food and experience!
All aspects were fabulous. Chips, rice, beans, seasonal veggies all great. No liquor license is the one draw back. Wine by the glass was a bit pricey for the pour.
The food was amazing. Authentic with great flavor. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly with great recommendations. The inside is tiny, but packs in a lot of character! We will definitely be back!
Awesome food and experience. Could eat there everyday.
Food was amazing as were the mimosas and dessert! It was about $80 for two people including appetizers, entrees, dessert, and cocktails. Loud and youthful, fun atmosphere. Will defiantly be back!
Great food as always
Delicious as always! Weekday dinner is a great time to visit, if you want to get a table right away (weekends are packed).
We just moved to Minnesota , and love dining at the mom and pops and Victors is at the top , the service was awesome and he was engaged our whole visit, food awesome our whole visit was awesome. even the parking with Mother nature here mad it an adventure. But we will be back and bring family when they come to town!!!
Very authentic Cuban experience! Apart from the negative temps outside :)
This unique joint serves authentic Cuban food in a fun and casual environment
The ice and snow on the sidewalks were TERRIBLE!!!!
Never disappointed here. Everything I’ve tried has been delicious and the service is superb.
It's just a wonderful place with wonderful food and people running it. Always please with my meal and experience when I go morning, afternoon or night.
The food was perfectly seasoned, the proportions were more than ample and everything on the plate tied in with the main entree. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience with a great atmosphere.
All around great experience. Looking forward for our next visit.
Amazing Cuban sandwich
Fun environment, memorable menu, great service. I would go there again.
Let's get this out of the way up front: Victor's 1959 Cafe is a tiny, tiny place. This is not a big chain restaurant. It's a weensy speck of space crammed to the gills with people and light and color and deliciousness. And it's that deliciousness that makes it worth planning ahead, making a reservation, and coming in prepared to feast.
When I lived in the neighborhood, I ate a lot of breakfasts and lunches at Victor's. (Dia y Noche is one of the most comforting breakfast foods in the world, and if you haven't tried it, plan on heading over during breakfast hours soon to get in on it.)
Everything I tried - from the crab cakes served with cucumber-mango relish to the hearty, soul-satisfying Ropa Vieja to the sweet guava-cream cheese empanada - was perfectly prepared and exactly what I needed on a cold winter night in Minneapolis. Service was attentive and friendly without being annoying.
I'm looking forward to reacquainting myself with the rest of the menu soon. This was a real treat.
The food was absolutely fantastic -- authentic, delicious Cuban food and portions weren't too gigantic!
Though we have had breakfast at Victors for many years, this is only our second dinner there. The Cuban cuisine is excellent and they have a short affordable appropriate to the meal wine list.
Victor's had phenomenal food, dedicated staff, and a unique atmosphere. I will definitely be back
