Victor's 1959 Cafe
Visited in 2008 & again in 2018 by Food Network's Guy Fieri, Diner's Drive-ins and Dives, who cooked up "off the hook" Cuban food with owner Niki Stavrou. Check our website to watch the episode!
We're a tiny restaurant with only 10 tables inside and 10 more tables on our tropical summer patio. Enjoy our Wines, Beers, Tropical Mimosas and Champagne Mojitos!
Also popular for our unique breakfast menu, served every day! No reservations for breakfast or lunch, just come on in...
5 mins from Downtown/Uptown 15 minutes from Mpls/St Paul Int'l airport.
Let's get this out of the way up front: Victor's 1959 Cafe is a tiny, tiny place. This is not a big chain restaurant. It's a weensy speck of space crammed to the gills with people and light and color and deliciousness. And it's that deliciousness that makes it worth planning ahead, making a reservation, and coming in prepared to feast.
When I lived in the neighborhood, I ate a lot of breakfasts and lunches at Victor's. (Dia y Noche is one of the most comforting breakfast foods in the world, and if you haven't tried it, plan on heading over during breakfast hours soon to get in on it.)
Everything I tried - from the crab cakes served with cucumber-mango relish to the hearty, soul-satisfying Ropa Vieja to the sweet guava-cream cheese empanada - was perfectly prepared and exactly what I needed on a cold winter night in Minneapolis. Service was attentive and friendly without being annoying.
I'm looking forward to reacquainting myself with the rest of the menu soon. This was a real treat.
The food was absolutely fantastic -- authentic, delicious Cuban food and portions weren't too gigantic!
Though we have had breakfast at Victors for many years, this is only our second dinner there. The Cuban cuisine is excellent and they have a short affordable appropriate to the meal wine list.
Victor's had phenomenal food, dedicated staff, and a unique atmosphere. I will definitely be back
Very good and flavorful food, unique ambiance and above all some of the friendliest staff I’ve seen.
Always a great time at Victor's.
Wow! Wow! Wow!
This tiny gem of a restaurant has fabulous, incredible Cuban food! I had the best pulled pork I’ve ever eaten - super flavorful and tender. The chicken empanadas were also incredible- perfect, flaky crust and flavor/packed filling.
My favorite place. I love the ambiance, the food and the sassy servers. Highly recommend.
Awesome food and service
Great South Mpls spot. Fun restaurant atmosphere with writings on the wall and quaint booth seating. Cuban cuisine had many options for us and my son's vegetarian girlfriend. We will definitely be back.
The food was very good when mixed with the plantains. The shredded beef dish, by itself was OK, but fairly bland. Not as good as on the Drive-ins and Dives made it appear. Perhaps it is better on the weekend. We went on a Wednesday
Dessert Flan was exceptional.
Service was great and its a very cool/funky place for a night out.
It's just a fun vibe and great Cuban influence in food! The only thing to be aware of....if you are tall, it is difficult to fit your legs under the table in their booths, and the ceiling is low!!! LOL
After living in Miami for a decade, I can say that Victor's is the real thing, cuisine wise.
Excellent service. Super cozy. Great good.
Just out for a quiet evening dinner. I had the mahi mahi which was excellent. My wife had the flank steak also a good choice. We shared a piece of coconut cake. Fun place and always interesting reading the walls.
Excellent service and even better food. Tried the Mahi special and was not disappointed!
great food as always!
Absolutely amazing!! Highly recommend it. The food was outstanding.
They accepted a reservation for 8:30pm, we arrived on time and waited for a table. One of our party asked if we would have for dinner, answer was yes. Once seated we were given menus, then told the kitchen closed in 11 minutes and we needed to order. We were able to order dessert but were told coffee was over. At 9:30 they turned all the lights on. 45 minutes for a dinner where we spent 45 a person seems unreasonable.
The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. Very friendly staff and atmosphere.
Authentic cuban food. None better north of Miami.
Great food and service. Victor’s is always fabulous!
Always great food. Only warning, if you are on the larger size tables are a little tight but workable.
My favoriote restaurant in the Twin Cities. I would eat there every night.
The Cuban food was delicious. Our waitress gave great advice on what to order. She did a wonderful job! We sat outside on the patio which was a bit loud from the busy street at times. I ordered a side order of house made tortillas (3 for $1.69) to eat with my pork and it was pure heaven! The Cuban sauce was hard to quit eating, yum. We ordered and brought home a bottle of their house made hot sauce to remember them by. We will be back again!
Good ambiance, service, and menu, and the flavors in the dish were great, but the salmon was overcooked. :( Wouldn't stop me from trying it again, though.
I will definitely suggest Victors 1959 Cuban Cafe to everyone. It was fun, full if energy, quaint, the best Cuban food I've had. Loved it.
Food was great. Service seemed rushed as we were one of only two tables when we were sat and the timing of our courses was too fast (our entrees came out 5 minutes after our appetizers).
Ropa Veija was still good but was not as good in the past. We've been coming to Victor's 1959 Cafe for many years. We love the beans and rice and plantains. We still recommend Victors 1959 Cafe as they clearly have the best Cuban food in the Twin Cities.
This place is awesome! The service was great, everything looked, smelled and tasted amazing and it’s a very cute little spot.
Veggies in entree were fair- authentic- fun new spot
This is the best restaurant in the Twin Cities. I would go there every night if I didn't live across town.
Victor's has been a classic for Cuban Cuisine for many years. We go here on a regular basis.
Loved the food & patio! Only downfall was the flies were sooo bad when our food came out that we felt rushed to finish.
Slow and unfriendly service, food was expensive and much of what we ordered was dry with limited flavor. The patio is lovely though.
The food and service are generally good, but my wife's fried side dish came out still cold in the center. They gladly replaced the side with one that was properly cooked, but it still should not have happened in the first place. Besides, a dish that comes out hot on the outside and cold on the inside implies it came from the freezer, which doesn't exactly suggest that it is made fresh or "home made".
We have been coming to Victor's for years. It is consistently good!
Victor’s 1959 Cafe never disappoints! Deliciousness! Amazing authentic Cuban food and fantastic desserts and great staff!
Best Cubano Sandwich ever, hands down, period. The flan is outstanding as well. It’s a bit of a “dive” but who cares?
Family gathering. Adult kids gave up anything else because 'Victors is worth it!'
