Victoria Gastro Pub Ratings and Reviews
Overall the food was just disappointing. My friend had the Eggs Benedict Victoria. She couldn't find any prosciutto and she said there were only four small pieces of crabmeat. She was still hungry after eating. We were told the two soups of the day, I ordered one of them, and then I was brought a different soup. When I said "this is not the soup I ordered" i was then informed that they had NEITHER of the soups we had been told. I ended up just having a small dish of poutine. Also, we were brought random sizes of coffee mugs and the poutine dish- I don't know if their dishwasher was broken or what. They just said they didn't have the right size dishes.
It was fine but for a place like Victoria Gastropub, I want better than fine. Not happening.
I would give our experience a 7 out of ten. I am detailed oriented and the restaurant let one of my guests lower the headcount before I arrived and we ended up being short one seat. They almost made everyone else move to a different part of the restaurant and we were already comfortable and seated. Fortunately, another table agreed to move so that we could stay seated. The food was not as great as I remembered but it was just OK...I would give it a 8 out of 10. The waiter (Brian) was amazing...No one from my group had any complaints but it was also missing the WOW factor I like to have when my colleagues and I go out to dinner.
This was my first visit here and it was for a very special occasion. I picked it because of it's location and proximity to the people we were meeting for dinner. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Large selection of beers and wines are available. My only issue was the menu. I wasn't sure what was what so I just ordered fish and chips (which was excellent). The dinner menu is lacking. I would recommend for lunch or for a light meal.
I did ask for a quiet spot so that we could talk during dinner which they did provide. Only issue with that was it was by a door and a foul smell came thru when it opened.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Service was very good and we enjoyed our meals. The fish&chips was delicious and not too greasy. The choice of fries was a nice option. The paprika ones were very tasty. It got a little loud later in the evening, but it was a Saturday night.
The three of us had dinner prior to a play. The atmosphere as we walked it was extremely noisy to deafening with Happy Hour in full force! If you enjoy a very vibrant bar scene, this is the place to go!
Being older and having gone through the bar scene long ago, we were fortunate to be seated in a room far from the activity. The dinner was good and the service was excellent! Our waiter was amusing, friendly and professional. I had the house classic hamburger, my wife had the crab cake with a cream corn sauce and our friend had pasta. We will all return again and recommend Victoria's Gastro Pub to our friends...with some reservation about where to sit!
We enjoyed our dinners and the selected beverages were also quite good. The pastrami sandwich was excellent with very tasty and lean pastrami. Sometimes this sandwich ends up so mushy and wet when prepared in other places, but VGP did an excellent job with this traditional sandwich. Our server was very pleasant, but he seemed a bit distracted and preoccupied with us telling his boss what a good job he was doing. Let your work define your performance! He did a very good job.
Restaurant is very nice with an extensive menu and pretty good food. It’s simply overpriced. They act as if they’re doing you a favor to let you dine there. They were happy to let us bring in a birthday cake from an outside source as long as we ponied up $20 for the privilege. There are far better values out there.
It was ok. They sat us ( a party of four) at a very small table - there wasn't enough room for all of us to open our menus at the same time and putting two appetizers on the table while everyone had drinks was like putting puzzle pieces together. There were two rows of these small tables packed pretty closely together so it was difficult for the waitstaff to walk around and in between the tables. There were several large booths open near the same room, so it is unclear why they decided to squash all of the patrons into this single dining room. Maybe next time I'll ask to sit outside where there is more room and I won't get tripped over by a passing waiter. Bottom line is that the food and drinks were good as always. The service was ok and the ambiance was not good this time.
We're repeat customers. Everything was good except that my cousin very specifically, in almost too much detail, requested that her burger come not with a bun but instead with lots of lettuce for wrapping. It came with a bun. Our waiter apologized and offered (after the check came) to provide free desserts next weekend--well, I live in another state, so my next visit is a long ways off. The food here is great, and foodie-worthy for sure. We just would have liked a little less enthusiasm (hugs all around!) and a little more professionalism.
I love Victoria's Gastropub. I have never had a bad experience there. We had an excellent waiter who worked with the special food needs of two of the members of our party of 7. Even though they don't reserve space on the terrace, we had requested it if available, and our table was set up outside for us. It is really not the place for vegetarians.
We decided to sit outside after being seated inside and the hostess was kind and accommodating. Two people in our party had the crab cakes and they were delicious. I had the steak salad and that was equally as good. The portion sizes were generous. For dessert we shared the Cookies and Cream Bread Pudding and that did not disappoint.
Met 6 friends for a Saturday brunch. Made reservations on open table which I love the convenience. Had a nice table for us. Service was really great. Brunch menu offered a nice variety. Coffee was plentiful but a spec on the mild side. Got a spec noisy when the room behind us began to fill up. Overall a nice experience
The menu has interesting choices, and there was something for everyone. The staff was very friendly. I wasn't happy with the service. It wasn't awful, but my water glass was empty for most of the meal and I only got one refill when I asked. The server reached in front of us a few times, took our silverware after appetizers and we had to ask another server for replacements. No napkin or coaster for half of our water glasses, so I was wiping the table down pretty often. I had a delicious and beautifully presented cocktail. The restaurant was very busy, so maybe that's why the server was distracted. I would still go again.
I went here for brunch and had to order two entrees because I couldn't decide. I have been here for brunch, lunch, dinner, and drinks, and all were amazing. Pretty good vegetarian options and as far as omnivores, they seem to love it. Great for a date or happy hour or hanging out with friends.
Outstanding food and ambiance! We used to dine here monthly when it first opened and still come in 4-5 times per year. Ms.Mariner's vision remains true with imaginative recipes paired with wonderful drink selections. Service appears to be the one inconsistent factor.
The food was good, but the waiter was impatient with us because we had our toddler, and was curt when he saw my husband had stepped out because he wanted us to order immediately. He was relieved to find that we were prepared to order, but the rest of the time we were there service was minimal. My coworkers really like the food here, and the food is better than most, but I won't be coming back
Made reservation for anniversary dinner. Stated as such within reservation. Asked for something quiet. Hostess took us to outdoor seating (noise, children). Asked about this, noting that I had made request for something appropriate in reservation. Hostess noted they did not read the reservation, and that they spread everyone around in the restaurant to give all the wait staff equal coverage. She did offer that I could go back to the front to get different seating, but I was already disappointed that my original request was not considered. Dinner turned out fine, but will not consider Victoria for a special occasion in the future. Drink and food menu is diverse and interesting. Quality is very good. The wait staff were attentive. Sad that it wasn't a better experience.
