Victoria Gastro Pub Ratings and Reviews
I recently went there for a friend's birthday. The food was good, though nothing that blew me away. I would've liked to try a few of the appetizer options--they were what sounded the most exciting to me on the menu. The service was good, but again, nothing special. In fact, our server was a little awkward. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and will likely be back.
Most meals were good. The person that ordered the VGP Sandwich.(Vegetarian Sandwich) didn't care for it. They said it was mushy, & it all fell apart on their plate. They left most of it.
Steak was good. Would have liked more options for the sides. This person is on a fodmap diet, & most of the choices of sides were not Ok for them. They got 2 types of potatoes for their sides. Salman was good. Salad was good. Grilled cheese was good.
Waiter was nice, BUT chided me too much when I ordered a soda vs. an alcoholic beverage. Told him I wasn't feeling well and he still tried to.convince me to get a cocktail. I said no thanks. Well, I received an alcoholic drink, told him that it wasn't what I ordered and he told me I would love it. I should have demanded that he bring me the soda I wanted but didn't want to be the victim of him doing anything to my food. Told him I'd keep it and he said he would bring my soda later. Never got the soda and was charged $11 for th3 drink I didn't order and didn't finish. He kept trying to upsell us, acting surprised that I didn't want cheese and bacon on my burger. Felt like I had to keep defending myself. Like I said, he was nice but too pushy and made the meal unenjoyable.
Overall the food was just disappointing. My friend had the Eggs Benedict Victoria. She couldn't find any prosciutto and she said there were only four small pieces of crabmeat. She was still hungry after eating. We were told the two soups of the day, I ordered one of them, and then I was brought a different soup. When I said "this is not the soup I ordered" i was then informed that they had NEITHER of the soups we had been told. I ended up just having a small dish of poutine. Also, we were brought random sizes of coffee mugs and the poutine dish- I don't know if their dishwasher was broken or what. They just said they didn't have the right size dishes.
It was fine but for a place like Victoria Gastropub, I want better than fine. Not happening.
I would give our experience a 7 out of ten. I am detailed oriented and the restaurant let one of my guests lower the headcount before I arrived and we ended up being short one seat. They almost made everyone else move to a different part of the restaurant and we were already comfortable and seated. Fortunately, another table agreed to move so that we could stay seated. The food was not as great as I remembered but it was just OK...I would give it a 8 out of 10. The waiter (Brian) was amazing...No one from my group had any complaints but it was also missing the WOW factor I like to have when my colleagues and I go out to dinner.
This was my first visit here and it was for a very special occasion. I picked it because of it's location and proximity to the people we were meeting for dinner. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Large selection of beers and wines are available. My only issue was the menu. I wasn't sure what was what so I just ordered fish and chips (which was excellent). The dinner menu is lacking. I would recommend for lunch or for a light meal.
I did ask for a quiet spot so that we could talk during dinner which they did provide. Only issue with that was it was by a door and a foul smell came thru when it opened.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Service was very good and we enjoyed our meals. The fish&chips was delicious and not too greasy. The choice of fries was a nice option. The paprika ones were very tasty. It got a little loud later in the evening, but it was a Saturday night.
The three of us had dinner prior to a play. The atmosphere as we walked it was extremely noisy to deafening with Happy Hour in full force! If you enjoy a very vibrant bar scene, this is the place to go!
Being older and having gone through the bar scene long ago, we were fortunate to be seated in a room far from the activity. The dinner was good and the service was excellent! Our waiter was amusing, friendly and professional. I had the house classic hamburger, my wife had the crab cake with a cream corn sauce and our friend had pasta. We will all return again and recommend Victoria's Gastro Pub to our friends...with some reservation about where to sit!
We enjoyed our dinners and the selected beverages were also quite good. The pastrami sandwich was excellent with very tasty and lean pastrami. Sometimes this sandwich ends up so mushy and wet when prepared in other places, but VGP did an excellent job with this traditional sandwich. Our server was very pleasant, but he seemed a bit distracted and preoccupied with us telling his boss what a good job he was doing. Let your work define your performance! He did a very good job.
Restaurant is very nice with an extensive menu and pretty good food. It’s simply overpriced. They act as if they’re doing you a favor to let you dine there. They were happy to let us bring in a birthday cake from an outside source as long as we ponied up $20 for the privilege. There are far better values out there.
It was ok. They sat us ( a party of four) at a very small table - there wasn't enough room for all of us to open our menus at the same time and putting two appetizers on the table while everyone had drinks was like putting puzzle pieces together. There were two rows of these small tables packed pretty closely together so it was difficult for the waitstaff to walk around and in between the tables. There were several large booths open near the same room, so it is unclear why they decided to squash all of the patrons into this single dining room. Maybe next time I'll ask to sit outside where there is more room and I won't get tripped over by a passing waiter. Bottom line is that the food and drinks were good as always. The service was ok and the ambiance was not good this time.
We're repeat customers. Everything was good except that my cousin very specifically, in almost too much detail, requested that her burger come not with a bun but instead with lots of lettuce for wrapping. It came with a bun. Our waiter apologized and offered (after the check came) to provide free desserts next weekend--well, I live in another state, so my next visit is a long ways off. The food here is great, and foodie-worthy for sure. We just would have liked a little less enthusiasm (hugs all around!) and a little more professionalism.
