Vic's on the River Ratings and Reviews
Overall good experience. I agree with other comments that the soup could be warmer and the food too. We had the pork chops, pecan flounder, scallops, fried shrimp and the youngest a hamburg. Something for everyone. Nice ambiance and walk to the restaurant. They do have valet parking if you prefer not to walk.
Very good food but poor service. You can tell that this restaurant has poor management and that they've begun to rely on reputation instead of keeping regulars coming back. All the servers we encountered were apathetic and our own couldn't answer any questions about the menu or how things were cooked. We went here while on vacation due to its high ratings and recommendations from friends, but can't say we'd recommend it to anyone else.
Great find in Savannah. Live music (piano), and wide range of cocktails.
Service was very attentive and knowledgeable. Our server paired wine with our meal, and it was delicious.
Both the soup and the salad were really good. Unfortunately my entree, seafood bouillabaisse, was incredibly salty.
Overall I would give it 4 stars.
Seated by window with beautiful view as requested so I was excited for the dining experience. However, Chad, our server, rushed us through the entire meal while other tables seated before us in his section were noticeably evenly paced. He also seemed to assume what we wanted to eat. Tried to push Blue Point oysters and Stags Leap Chardonnay on us. Treated like amateur eaters. I've had both in the past and wasn't on the mood for them.. Assumed when we didn't want to order oysters that we didn't like them which is not the case. Entrees came out while still eating appetizer. Told not to rush on the appetizer as entrees dropped on table. Suggested we buy, a bottle of wine which would have been impossible to consume after a cocktail when dinner literally lasted 30 minutes. Dropped the check and came back, snapped it off the table and ran off before we could get out that we hadn't put payment in the folio yet. We were still enjoying our glass of wine. Crab soup was good but not warm enough. Shrimp and grits was just ok. Pecan crusted flounder didn't taste like pecans or flounder, overwhelmed by "breading". Would not go back or recommend.
The crab cakes had no flavor at all. The crab must have been frozen too long or just not seasoned at all. My husband had the pecan flounder that was a beautiful presentation and after the first few bites, when he got down to the fish, it was tasteless. The amount of money we spent there was obscene compared with the food. Never have I eaten seafood that had zero flavor. We were so disappointed since we chose this place to celebrate our anniversary. The complimentary cupcake following dinner was a nice touch and appreciated, but it did not make up for the $100 plus dollars we spent on a very disappointing meal.
Did not expect to get my meal without what was offered and ordered. The menu specifically stated fried shrimp and oysters, I only got fried shrimp. I asked the waitress about it, and she said the meal was really supposed to be only with fried shrimp and would not go include oysters. I felt cheated. She knew ahead of time about this and did not tell me. Not fair. I counted the shrimp, they included only six in my meal. I wish to be reimbursed for that dish, especially since it was no t cheap.
we had our reception here when we got married 3 years ago and returned to celebrate our third anniversary. we had a wonderful experience with Vic's when we got married and were not disappointed upon our return. the ambiance is beautiful with a wonderful view, and both the food and service are excellent. they have quite an extensive wine list and a good variety on their menu.
Food was great but we were seated at at table right in front of the door to the kitchen. In an establishment like this, there should NOT be a table right in front of the door to the kitchen. It’s just cramming people into space - highly recommend it be removed.
Went for Saturday night dinner while in Savannah for a long weekend. Requested window seating and that’s exactly what we got!! I had crab cakes which were the best I have ever eaten. It was served with Risotto which was very bland. Our dinner guest had the short ribs which were fantastic! All in all we had a lovely dinner and it is a great value for a downtown restaurant!
We have always been very pleased with our meals at this lovely restaurant. It is a popular place so people should expect to encounter a lively atmosphere with energetic service. My request for a window seat is honored whenever it can be accommodated and I very much appreciate that courtesy. The seafood stew is fabulous and the shrimp and grits are our favorite of any in any restaurant in Savannah.
We came here for my wife’s birthday. She’s wanted to try it for quite some time. The lunch was phenomenal. The staff was very knowledgeable and courteous. The flavor pairings in the food were perfect and seasoned just right. We got the beef carpaccio as an app. It was arguably the best in the southeast. They made my wife’s birthday memorable and we will be back for a dinner service.
Our reservation was honored promptly but the restaurant was CRAZY-BUSY!! and so there was lots of coming-and-going...we were seated near the front door thus VERY aware of all the chaos...AND...as a result our service was POOR...very POOR! The food was good as always. I prefer this restaurant for lunch...not dinner. Thanks
Very good place for dinner, interesting wine list and menu. Obviously Fried Green Tomatoes for starters, I had the she crab soup and it was awesome. The Mahi Mahi was very fresh and tender, mi wife ordered the roasted half chicken and for dessert the basket, it is a classic , I’ll leave you in suspense, just try it.
