Vic's on the River Ratings and Reviews
Our server was great but the food was average. We went here for our anniversary and were seated in the bar area where someone was playing piano and singing. This venue is too small for piano and singing as my wife and I could barely carry on a conversation over the music and signing. Too many other good restaurants in Savannah to have to shout over piano and bad singing during our anniversary dinner.
Good food, a bit pricey, too loud (depending on table location), good service, very little area to wait to be called for table assignment. I think the prices are too high for the cattle cart feeling of seating and dinner. They are so popular that it’s very crowded and the experience is significantly reduced. Felt rushed in for a meal and rushed out.
This was our first trip to Savannah to celebrate our Anniversary. Vic’s on the River was recommended to us by the conceirge at the hotel and we could not have been more pleased with this spot. We had a wonderful table with a view of the River, the food was delicious, (especially the the short ribs) and the service was great. I would gladly return given the opportunity!
MY husband and I were in town for the weekend and had been encouraged by a friend to go to Vic's. We came a little early and were seated quickly, We ordered a number of items to share--a cocktail, soup, caesar salad, and dessert. Our entrees included mussels (asked for a substitution of citrus risotto instead of linguini) which were very good and meatloaf also very good. Every part of our meal was better than good but definitely not memorably great. However, we would consider returning, for the atmosphere and basic variety of menu choices.
My fiancé and I celebrated our engagement here, overall a nice restaurant for special occasions. We had reservations and were seated fairly quickly at a corner table overlooking the river. The only downfall was our 2 hour wait for our food. Luckily there was live music for entertainment and once our food arrived it was amazing. Overall a nice restaurant.
We are regular customers and for good reason -- always great food, great service, and great ambiance. This time we hosted two good out of town friends who were in Savannah to celebrate their 43rd anniversary. It was a wonderful dinning experience for our group, in large part because the wait staff helped to make the evening as special as it was. Our friends are now big fans of Vic's on the River.
Nice place with great atmosphere. Our appetizer came out cold but the server was happy to replace. A helper who brought out our entree, spilled the sauce all over my leg. He apologized and it was cleaned up. After that the manager comped our appetizer (which I feel should have been comped anyways bc it was originally frozen in the middle). All and all our server was great and the meal was pretty good.
This place was recommended to us and we would of had a great experience but our waitress (Jamie) lacked social skills and had no personality. The food was good and the place was very pretty and in a great location. The fried green tomatoes were very salty and had to send back. Would try again and hopefully have a better experience.
We stopped at Vic’s for Friday lunch. The weather was great for early December, so we elected to sit outside. It took awhile to get drinks and order our meal. We were really impressed with our food, both the shrimp & grits and pulled pork.
Sadly, the service was dreadful. Our server might have had too many tables, but I never saw her HUSTLE to make up for it. Our server was also unfriendly, which didn’t help. When a server passes my table and purposefully won’t make eye contact, that’s usually a telling sign.
We had to ask the manager for a check. I did something I haven’t done in 20 years, leave a 10% tip.
Same great service, ambience, et al. Wasn’t as impressed with the food this visit. Appetizer: fried chicken livers were undercooked. Entree: Shrimp and grits ... unimpressive. Shrimp were big and cooked just right. However, grits were not creamy but almost stiff. Seasoning was rather bland.
My husband and I live in Boston, and were in Savannah during his birthday. I wanted to take him for a nice lunch. Reviews of Vic’s were mixed, but I thought we’d try it. If I could have given them 10 stars all around, I would have.
When I booked the reservation, I noted that we were celebrating my husband’s birthday. The hostess who seated us wished him a “happy new year” because it’s a new year for him. Nice touch.
We shared the calamari appetizer. The flavor combo of the peppers, sauce and feta cheese were out of this world. Best calamari we’ve had anywhere. I had the grilled redfish as my entree, and my husband had the day’s special, crabmeat stuffed shrimp with pasta. Both of our meals were heaven on a plate. Our server, Andi, surprised my husband with a complimentary birthday dessert, complete with candle.
The food was spectacular, service impeccable yet friendly. The view of the river was glorious. If I lived in Savannah, I would go to Vic’s for every special occasion. Absolutely loved it.
The food is a advertised a very nice experience. I did not appreciate being hustled by the "fake" valet outside who offered to park my car in a free parking spot for $20. I spoke to the hostess as we left and let them know that someone was outside snagging their patrons as they were coming in and offering them valet parking. I realized this was a con, it the spot he offered was close, the real valet for Vic's was no where to be seen and I figured that if this young man needed $20 that bad he was at least going about it in a way that hurt no one... so I gave him the 20 bucks and he "watched" my car until I returned.
We were 10 minutes late for our reservation and they cancelled us. We waited for about 10 minutes for a table. While we were waiting my friend sat down on one of the chairs near the piano player who made a rude remark to her. We were seated near the service door where waiters and busboys were constantly going in and out. I asked for another table and waited another 5 minutes only to be lead to a table opposite the other service door! At that point we just sat down. Our server proceeded to pour ice water into our glasses and twice spilled the water on my friend's foot. I ordered linguini and mussels which was loaded with sliced onions (never had onions in this dish) and had little taste. My friend was looking forward to the shrimp and grits as they claimed to have the best. She was very disappointed with the soggy grits and tasteless sauce. My other friend had onion soup and salad which she enjoyed. I would not recommend this restaurant. I felt like I was at a chain restaurant rather than an upscale one.
We enjoyed Vic's on the River. The food was delicious and portions were filling. The only drawback was our table was close to the entrance and to far from the window overlooking the Savannah River. The main reason I selected Vic's was to dine looking at the view.
