Place was very nice and service was attentive. Food was good and the portions was good. Great place for a nice Italian dinner.
Five of us got together for a birthday celebrationon a week night. We made our reservations on Open Table for 7:00 pm but when we walked in, I got the feeling it was a bit of a surprise to the staff. We had to wait for them to put tables together and set up to accommodate us as though we were walk-ins. We waited an inordinate amount of time for our food to come to the table after we ordered (about an hour). At least bring the salads out guys to hold us over and let us think the food is somewhere in sight. We were so famished we went through 2 baskets of bread. Now, in Vicolo's defense, it was a Thursday evening which is a buy one entree, get one free. So it was quite busy. However, this generous deal has been offered Mon-Thurs for years, so I would think they'd have their timing down pat on a busy night, whether its BOGO or not. I would imagine it was as busy as a Saturday night. Anyway, despite the tortuous wait time, the food was fabulous. I ordered the Branzino special which was absolutely delicious. One of us ordered the ravioli and raved how good it was. So I"m torn - great food vs. terrible service. We had to call the server and eventually the owner, when the server was unavailable to move the dinner process along. Can we order dessert now? Can we have the delicious flavored grappa that is offered complimentary? Can we have the check? I got the impression when Benny, the owner saw our frustration, he realized I had put a note on the Open Table notes that we were celebrating a birthday, so he brought over a sample assortment of desserts with a candle. Good save, Benny! The desserts were delicious. It would have been nice if coffee was offered at that time. I will definitely give Vicolo another chance but improving the service would have made the evening perfect.
This was our first visit to this small yet wonderful restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious no matter what was chosen. AND FURTHERMORE we had a fun filled night singing along with Friday Night entertainer Neil. The wine list is extensive; and they even have their own bottled Vicolo wines which were surprisingly good. We loved the home made desserts and after dinner drinks too. I highly recommend this place to all. Like mom always said: "Always look in your own back yard". Yummy. I already made my next reservation for 6 of us. Enjoy!
Excellent food great service.i love the wild mushroom ravioli
Food was good.
Waiter never came back to see if everything was ok.
He only took our order, then disappeared.
Two other people brought our appetizers and main course. Neither came back either to check on us.
Meals were good, but felt they were overpriced.
Would not go back.
Food portion was very generous. Didn't expect much but the taste was pretty good. The clam linguine was a little salty for us but our lobster tail with lamb was excellent.
The place was ok. Service average. Didn't like the live music. Wouldn't go running back. Just average.
Always a satisfying stop. Had not been there for dinner in a while. This visit was encouraged by a Groupon coupon. Service excellent without hovering. Food excellent especially specials. Portions more than adequate. One suggestion: when taking leftovers, have the bus staff remove the plates from the table instead of unceremoniously sliding them off the plate at the table into tin foil containers.
Excellent food excellent service great entertainment I had a vel chop was amazing my wife she love her fish Dessertt I had tiramisu was one of the best I ever had
Dined here with friends for the first time. Seated us promptly. Shared a stuffed clams appetizer which was very tasty. Our entrees ranged from swordfish, chicken, steak and pasta. Everyone was pleased with their selections. The food was fresh and presented well, accompanied by a house salad. We shared a tartufo, cannoli, and tiramisu for dessert. The owner gave us complimentary after dinner drinks. A nice way to end our dinner.
Food was very bland, not as described on menu, ordered chicken w/ asparagus dish. One asparagus chopped on top of chicken ( Chicken crust or breading was mushy)Short ribs came out like stew. Others ordered shrimp over linguini both came out with mashed potatoes and plain string beans. Would not go back. Decor definitely needs updating. I have never given a review before. This was very disappointing.
My experience at Vicolo was excellent. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was really nice. The service was very attentive and the time in between courses was just right. The staff in general was really friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
We've been here twice now, and have greatly enjoyed the experience and the good.
All six of us enjoyed our meal beginning with the delicious bread with pesto, fresh salad, entree and the service was very accomodating.
3 out of 4 of us ordered fish dishes which they were all very good. The other ordered steak which was so well done he could not eat it. They were very good in offering something else to makeup for the confusion though. I would recommend this restaurant to others.
We generally like this restaurant. It's a cut above the typical NJ neighborhood eatery. We asked for some minor changes to the dishes ordered and they were very willing to oblige. Big brownie points for that. Burata to start (no prosciutto please). Fresh and creamy with balsamic vinegar reduction. Wife had seafood medley (no tilapia please) & spinach replaced request for no linguini. I had a veal chop which was prepared as requested. Shared an oreo cheesecake for dessert which was light & heavenly. Complimentary after dinner drinks was a nice touch. Thanks Vicolo for a lovely dinner. Too bad you're not close to where we live otherwise we'd be there regularly.
Love the buy-one-get-one special Monday - Thursday. Full-size regular & special menu items - you can't go wrong!
Restaurant tends to get very loud (you should be ok if you get a table upfront)
Try & go on a night they're not too busy - some staff tend to prefer it that way, too.
wonderful hidden gem.. great meal delicious food, great service. will be back again.
We found Vicolo through coupons and were pleasantly surprised !
The restaurant is a " mall" location and isn't that well deceptive but that does not lower our opinion that this is a really great find for comfort food in a well managed dining experience.
The service was excellent from the welcoming at the door to the person who takes your plates away!
The second time we went they had a singer who made the meal "fun" !
He sang many different types of music .. some ok .. but more importantly he had fun , sang well and was engaging and by the time our meal was over we were singing Neil Diamonds Sweet Caroline at the top of our lungs.
Give it a try and if your looking to " let your hair down" go on Friday night and sing along too.
Oh... they do have gluten free past and my wife REALLY enjoyed her pasta with eggplant, sausage , ricotta !!!!
Friendly, great food. No rush
Friendly atmosphere, good service, excellent food choices at fair prices. Complimentary after dinner drinks are a nice touch. Would highly recommend........
Food was very good. Everyone who works here is very friendly and the staff all seems like a family. They even treat you like family. They seem to know a lot of the patrons that come in for dinner.
They don't rush you at all.. it was not that busy tonight so the staff was kind of hanging out with themselves and the regulars and for about one half hour we kind of where " forgotten"... not complaining but we thought they line us so much they did not want us to leave ...
Went on weekday, noise level was deafening as there was a large party celebration with a singer (not cordoned off area) and almost walked out. However, seated at once at last available table. Restaurant has buy 1, get 1 free and obviously very popular. Service was very good as well as the food which included salad, bread and generous portions of entrees.
Have been there twice and food was excellent. I had the double cut pork chops with vinegar peppers and they were outstanding. Probably the best I have ever had. Will definitely go back.
I've attended this restaurant several times. Each time the service has been consistently wonderful, the food is always fresh and very reasonably priced.
Excellent service excellent food great entertainment
Priced and advertised as "fine dining." In reality, it is a mediocre Italian restaurant. Turns out my half off Groupon was not a special, they actually have buy one get one free every week during week. Note to owners, this means your price point is waaaay off base. While my ravioli was homemade, it was over cooked. The penna vodka was mushy and average for a pizza place, not for fine dining. There was some flavorless green "pesto" for bread which tasted like it had been frozen or was old, it had no real flavor so it could not have been freshly made pesto. The calamari appetizer was the best thing but had no tentacles at all. I would get the same meal for $30 at a pizza place, cost $70 here before my Groupon. Disappointing and certainly not fine dining food. Service was average also, I think the owner or manager dropped our food off and didn't even offer parm cheese or pepper two basic pasta dishes, and didn't ask if we needed anything, like drinks...will not be back.
The food is wonderful. My only objection as I've only been there on Saturday nights, the singer is very loud and in my opinion her music should be background
whereas it appears to be more foreground music. At times it was actually very intrusive
the best Italian food around! The service is amazing and def have the salad their dressing is incredible
The food and service is excellent. The price is right
