We are in San Francisco for our 40th wedding anniversary, and so we look at Open table and watch the local tv for places to eat. Vicoletto was recommend by both. The place was full and very noisy, so noisy that my wife and I couldn't even talk. There was only one waiter trying to take care of the whole place, the service was slow...what service there was. I ordered the crab linguine, and ended up with what I think might have been pork. I went a head and ate a little, and didn't complain, because I just wanted to get out of the place.
I went with a party of 8 and for most of the evening we were the only ones in the restaurant so service was not a problem. Portions are not huge so a few of us wished that there was 2 or 3 more bites on our plates. My sister got the pan roasted sea bass and it was cooked perfectly. Other dishes worth trying are the pappardelle with super tender lamb and the creamy gnocchi with sausage. One dish that was not a big hit was the ink squid pasta. Although the prawns were good, the pasta was a little on the hard side.
We had a lovely evening spent at Vicoletto. There was a group of eight women all coming to San Francisco to celebrate a 21st birthday. The restaurant was very accommodating for such a large group and the food was spectacular. $20 corkage fee is also a great steal in San Francisco.
The waiter brought out two delicious desserts to celebrate the birthday girl as well. We are glad to have stumbled upon this gem in North Beach.
I have been here about 4 or 5 times. The homemade pasta is always a delight.
We planned a day in SF and wanted to eat in North Beach. I made a reservation for Sunday. The first reservation was canceled by the restaurant late the night before. I was able to reschedule for a similar time , but when we got to the restaurant we realized it was closed and wouldn't be open that day. Not sure why. I would have appreciated a note with the cancellation saying that they were closed for whatever reason.
At first I was concerned this would be a generic Italian spot bordering on tourist trap. But once the burrata arrived as our starter - I knew this was going to be good. And then it got better. I had the pasta with crab which was pretty good (i only wish the portion was just a bit more !). My mother had the squid ink pasta. I generally never order that myself as I always wonder what you will get. But WHOA! This was the winner dish. Perfectly cooked with a generous portion of clams and shrimps and the flavor of the sea. We also arrived just before 7pm - perfect timing as the restaurant got packed within a half hour.
Love this place! Attentive, friendly service, fantastic wine list and very good food. We continue to come back for the burrata. They import it fresh from Italy, and it is unlike any other burrata I've had in the states. It's amaaaaazing! So creamy, just the right amount of salt and pepper, and a drizzle of quality olive oil. They don't serve it with bread because it doesn't need it. Even if you get nothing else, it's worth going here just for that cheese.
Highly recommend. Pasta dish was perfect: rich, yet light.
We were underwhelmed when first arriving at Vicolo, as it was quiet with only a few tourists and an empty feeling. The warmth of the host initially won us over, but then the food came and it was excellent. We will put it on our regular places to visit in North Beach.
Table dirty. Service slow. Food was just ok. We were charged an automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 5, which seemed unusual.
The restaurant was actually closed when I showed up for my reservation.
Second time. I'll definitely be back! The buratta cheese and gluten free pasta are sensational!
Fresh food. Burratta salad, crab pasta. Pasta was real fresh and made to perfection. Portions are just right although it might feel small since most of us are used to large servings.
We were there for Father's Day lunch... and being only one of three tables of people in the entire restaurant, our service was slow and absent-minded. First off, they forgot our appetizer order. Then, they set down the meals for two of us, and then took them away, as they said they made a mistake on one of them, and then came back for the other one, and said the food was for another table, and took that one too. Strange.
We thought being one of only a few tables our service would have been overdone since there wasn't anyone else to serve. I had ordered my stuffed pork chop without the cheese. When someone orders something without cheese, it could be due to an allergy to the lactose enzymes. When I got the plate back, the pork chop was simply emptied out - it didn't even have the prosciutto or herbs in it, but there were traces of melted cheese. So they just scooped out the pork chop that had been cooked with the cheese in it - and served it back to me. They should have cooked a new one. But, since we had to catch a show, i couldn't send it back again. Also, everyone complained the food was too salty and none of said we'd probably ever go back, considering the number of other Italian restaurants in North Beach. Amongst the plethora of Italian restaurants, there was nothing stand-out about this place at all.
Starting off with positive feedback on the food. Homemade pasta was amazing. Our host/server was very nice and attentive. We were the only patrons in the restaurant which was odd. The music in this Italian restaurant was loud and not well suited. Club type blaring and the bartender chose the play list. We kindly asked if it could be changed as we were the only ones in there. Our waiter was sweet and said no problem, and did just that. We received a very cold and disturbing attitude from the bartender who also helped on serving the food. No communication from him, just an icy glare.
Very disappointed as the food was great and the restaurant was walking distance to Martunis. His attitude ruined our experience at Vicolettos.
Enjoyed the lobster ravioli and the braised lamb with papperdelli. Authentic Italian. Housemade pastas. Large open window to view street action. Cozy spot. Great for date.
I knew it would be hard to fit in our group for a going away celebration, but they made it work for us and proceeded to serve us with excellent service and customer experience. I knew I loved the food here, but to have the same quality and service with a large group was very impressive. Thank you!
This is the second time I've attempted to visit Vicoletto—the first time I made a reservation for my mom's birthday so she and my dad drove into SF to meet us for dinner. She is gluten free so I booked them specifically because they have GF offerings. We arrived and were told that they were only offering a SF Restaurant Week fixed menu and were not serving anything gluten free (though there was no indication of this at the time of booking!). The host told us we were "free to leave", so we did. Despite that poor experience I booked again, this time for my brother's birthday, and again my parents drove into SF to meet us. We arrived to find that the restaurant *wasn't open* even though their hours were listed as opening an hour before our reservation. We'll be taking our business elsewhere from now on.
A friend in North Beach recommended this restaurant, and she was spot on. GREAT food. I'm sorry I haven't been here before!, but I will definitely be back. The dining room was a little warm, but we were able to open the door and let in a bit of cool air.
Great food. Great Value. Very Enjoyable. Worth a trip. You will not be disappointed.
Have been many times and is always good and better than most.
We had tickets to the nearby speakeasy, and wanted to grab dinner beforehand. The food was delicious, the pasta was fresh, and the restaurant had a nice modern vibe. Our server was good and fairly attentive, but as the restaurant got busier (it was packed), he seemed a little overwhelmed and he struggled to get us out the door in time to make our show.
I'm not knocking the server--they seemed short staffed the night we were there. And if we didn't have a schedule to keep, we would have been happy to drag out dessert and linger at our table for longer.
Worst service we have EVER had at a restaurant and the food was mediocre to boot. Very disappointing.
Love this place!! Great menu and very tasting food. I recommend Vicoletto to all my family and friends and you will not be disappointed.
Love this neighborhood spot with great food. Only negative is it can get quite loud.
This place is normally one of my favorites, bit unfortunately today sucked. The food was good but the service was awful. First I said it was my birthday in my reservation and my best friend commented that it was birthday, but there was no recognition. Also it took over 45 min to get our food. I love this place normally. But this leak was so bad that over questioned if it's worth eating here again.
Went here for Valentine's day and it was super affordable compared to a ton of other restaurants that charged $80+ per person. Everything I ordered was spectacular - Burrata for appetizer, Capeletti for entree, and fruit tart for dessert.
Went on Valentine's Day, they decided to do a Prix Fixe Menu. Started with the burrata, it was creamy and delicious. Had the crab linguini for the main course, the crab was fresh and the pasta had a ton of flavor yet was nice and light at the same time. Dessert was cannoli and something else that was not worth writing about. Will come back again, but will probably skip their desserts.
Horrible service, ruined the vibe but good food.
Wonder food in a family style intimate atmosphere. They make all their pasta from scratch so it is always perfect.
The app allowed me to make a Sunday reservation. Alas, the restaurant is closed on sundays. It would
Be great if the hours for reservations were Accurate. I rated the restaurant highly so they don't get dinged by my complaint about the open table app
During sf restaurant week, so prices were higher but a given. Could tell the waiters were severely understaffed and swamped by a large party - spent about 3.5 hrs there for about 20 minutes of eating. Food was fantastic though
My boyfriend and I came here for dinner during restaurant week. We really enjoyed the food here. It is very authentic compared to that we had in Venice two years ago. The size of the restaurant is perfect for dating or a group of 4~5 friends. The restaurant was full and had people waiting in line. The restaurant week $40 for three courses was a steal for such amazing food. I would recommend anyone to eat here!
Great food, slow service
Food was tasty. It was just a little bit noisy and the restroom was situated in a different place.
The food and service were great. It was a bit pricey when thinking about the actual price of pasta but the food was delicious.
Really loved the food here. Just a great home made food style that easily makes this place stand out. Only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because the service is so slow (I don't mind) that it makes you truly beleive you were forgotten in Calabria!
The pasta dishes were disappointing, pasta was soggy and sticky. That was not my past experience, so not sure if the kitchen was just off that evening or the restaurant is slipping. The (women) bathroom was absolutely disgusting, they share with the restaurant next door, but still someone should have been staying on top of the baseline level of cleanliness.
I normally like this restaurant, hope this was just an off night.
Wow! This place is Awesome! We landed here by chance and it was a fortunate evening. The real authentic Italian cuisine was superb, so rare to find in the USA. The service was excellent and the atmosphere so relaxing. We ate gnocchi al pesto, carciofi, pappardelle, prosciutto and burrata.. everything was so delicious! It was like to be in Italy for real. Thank you to Satya and his mom for their hospitality. We'll definitely come back soon!
Our family and friends were very sad to hear that this restaurant had recently closed. It was always one of our favorite places to eat in North Beach. We're hopeful that the owners will be opening up another restaurant in the neighborhood soon!
