Vico Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
i was disappointed in the overall experience. the food was not as good as the last time we were there. I asked for my dish to be wrapped and never received it back. I liked our waitress very much, but my son received the wrong entree, and there were only 2 other people, so it was not busy. The overall experience needs to be improved upon.
We were greeted and seated immediately. The wait staff was excellent, anticipating our every need and ready and able to answer all questions. The ambiance was perfect; low lighting, quiet jazz piano playing in the background... But the highlight of the visit had to be the food! Excellent salads , exquisite Italian cuisine featuring their homemade pastas. And desert was to die for delicious as well. Vico's was the perfect place to dine in celebration of our 20th Wedding Anniversary.
Vico is one of our favorite restaurants in Hudson. It is refreshingly quiet, open, and intimate, thanks to a design that features multiple linked and well-decorated rooms, including a gorgeous outdoor deck that is also airy but private. And the menu remains equally understated but delicious (the pasta is homemade and fresh). Oh yes, and service to match! A great venue for our wedding anniversary.
Consisitently delicious food! Creative menu with a large variety for everyone. Everything is fresh and individually prepared to allow customization to suit your taste. The service is absolutely AMAZING - friendly, helpful, charming and efficient Lisbeth is our favorite! We have enjoyed several dinners here with a variety of appetizers, salads, meat and pasta entrees, desserts and nice wines. Not a single negative to report. Should be number 1 place to dine in Hudson...Just go there and enjoy!
My wife and I had a wonderful time at this restaurant. The food was of high quality and the service impeccable. As can happen, the appetisers were so appealing that its hard to move onto the main serve. Somehow we did and even more pleasant surprises awaited us.
The restaurant has curb appeal, with a long bar in the front and two dining rooms in the back. The lower level opens onto a patio. Both are quite pleasant. Unfortunately, the décor is the restaurant's best feature. The food is nothing special. The waitress was perfectly pleasant but, after the entrees, a woman who was either the manager or owner appeared to rush us along, even though the restaurant was half-empty. In fairness, my perception of this place may have been influenced by the fact that we went to a truly superb restaurant the previous evening and had an excellent meal at another, more expensive restaurant in Hudson two months ago. However, my advice is: Pay up, and go to Ca'Mea!
Our dinner at Vico was exceptional from beginning to end. The staff is polite and kind and attentive. The menu is full of delicious selections, from things as simple as a variation on spaghetti and meatballs, to dishes that are mainstay masterpieces, like grilled lamb. We had eggplant "chips" that were perfect - fried but not at all heavy, with the flavor of fresh eggplant shining through. The red wine risotto with duck confit and shitake mushrooms was light and flavorful, not at all gloppy as some risottos are. We ordered wine by the glass, and the glasses were lovely and well portioned...the wines were fresh and fabulous. We saved room for dessert, and had a selection of mini pastries that were all delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. I've eaten at Vico many times and am always delighted. I recommend it a lot and hope to return soon! Thank you Mark, Adam, and everyone!!
This restaurant came highly recommended from our host at our B&B to people who have traveled to Hudson city before so we were anticipating a really good meal especially since we have had a delicious one at a neighboring restaurant the night before . we got there early so we had no problem with seating ,the place was relatively empty maybe two other tables had diners. I asked for an old fashion cocktail made with rye and they told me the did stock rye which was surprising because it's a high-end restaurant with a full bar so I opted for a glass of red wine arm and it was delicious the appetizers were nothing memorable. For my main course I had ordered their salmon and my husband ordered the chicken parm, which they are noted for.
My salmon came with bits of fried kale and beans and it was dry and flavorless and my husbands chicken Parm was inedible it was so tough that when he gave me a piece to try cause I didn't believe him I actually had to spit it out it just was really really tough unfortunately we do not mention this to the waitress when she asked how everything was. When she brought our bill my husband just felt he had to say something especially since 3/4 of his meal was left on his plate he said just to give you some feedback this chicken Parm was really very very tough she became agitated and said why didn't you tell me when I asked you ??!!! we agreed we should have but we just wanted to give her a heads up so that they could maybe not make a mistake with similar customers to her credit she took the price of the meal off of the tab and we left her a nice tip because it's really not her fault but when I mentioned this to our host at the B&B he said he was surprised because normally the place has a good reputation so perhaps it was just an off night
Went to Vico during our biennial family reunion on a Thursday evening in July. All was superb! Our party of 8 siblings from Utah, Wisconsin, Jersey, and New York state, was comfortably seated at a roomy farm-table in the lower-level dining room at the rear of the restaurant. Unpretentious pleasant décor and friendly staff made us feel at home. We asked the hostess/server if she could turn off the background music in our area, to provide a quiet atmosphere in which to easily converse. She graciously complied, then said a few words about the menu, explaining that everything is house-made of fresh, locally raised ingredients, before withdrawing to give us time to ponder our choices. Throughout the evening, the pace of service was ideal, neither rushing us nor lagging. Bravo to the well-trained young busboys who cleared away empties between courses and helped lay new place settings silently upon the wooden table, doing their job impeccably and unobtrusively. A little thing perhaps, but it is such touches that made for a memorable dining experience. Now, for the food! Folks ordered a variety of appetizers/salads (crispy eggplant chips with marinara dipping sauce; a cheese board featuring chunks of Italian sheep- and goats-milk cheeses, paired with fig jam, spiced pecans, and fresh pear slices; balsamic dressed arugula with poached pear, gorgonzola, & glazed pecans; a classic Caesar salad) each of which drew appreciative comments. Our orders for entrees ranged from a risotto dish having generous amounts of duck meat & roasted shitake mushrooms with a tasty red wine butter sauce; to salmon atop white beans with sage, tomato & cooked greens; to an 8-rib rack of lamb grilled to medium-rare perfection, astride a mound of pleasantly earthy garlic mashed potatoes. All of us were well-pleased. My own rack of lamb, nicely complemented by drizzles of deep red fruity reduction syrup circling the plate, sliced easily into tender little chops that I then picked up and ate .....
This was a vacation dinner which we were looking forward to. The restaurant is cute so we were very disappointed in the in attentive staff and poor food quality.
Our appetizers were good. We ordered scallops and fried calamari. We also ordered a bottle of red wine. It was down hill from there.
The main courses we both ordered was Pappardelle al Telefono. This dish is delicious was made right. But the chef either had no idea or didn't want to bother. I know because I make it myself. This was nothing like what it was supposed to be.
We were never asked during our meal how it was. When we were offered more bread a very small amount was given with no more olive oil. To his credit when the busboy passed by after we had finished the bread, he asked if we wanted more bread AND olive oil. Our wine glasses were never filled by a server. We had to do it ourselves.
For dessert we ordered gelato and biscotti. We were told the biscotti was made in house. The gelato was so frozen we couldn't get a spoon through it until it melted a little. The biscotti was as soft as bread. So whoever made it had no idea how.
When the check was dropped we were finally asked how we liked our meal. The prices were ridiculously high for the quality of the food.
Vico came highly recommended but it a very disappointing and frustrating experience. They were clearly having kitchen issues on Saturday because our reservation was for 7.30pm, but on arrival we were asked to wait at the bar and not seated until after 8pm, and once we had placed our orders (just entrees), they did not arrive until after 9pm. No explanation was given for the delay and they did try to make amends by giving us some crostini when we were finally seated at our table, and eventually a salad when we had been waiting 45 minutes for our food. The food was nice but not amazing and definitely not worthy of the wait.
We love this find in the lower part of Warren Street in Hudson, NY....,Very nice selection of foods, although the lamb chops are my favorite, with eight!!!!! The only drawback is the price of the drinks....I know it's an upscale little restaurant BUT it's not Manhattan!!!! Way too much for my vodka!!! I would still come back and enjoy my meal but perhaps, no liquor!!!!
This is our favorite place for Italian classics and homemade fare that is qualitatively better than a standard "red sauce" joint. It isn't pretentious or twee, and while quality ingredients are a given, there's no farm-to-table preciousness. We love the attentive waitstaff!
I had their homemade ravioli and my wife ordered a chicken dish. Both meals were well prepared. The wait staff were attentive and we found the environment comfortable, with contemporary art and soft music. Vico is situated at the North end of Warren Street which is far less congested and easier to park.
I went there as part of a group of 8 for New Years Eve. The dinner was a $ 75 Prix Fixe menu which include and appetizer, salad an entree and a dessert. I must admit that I've never had octopus before but it came as part of the appetizer so I gave it a shot. The salad was very good but the entree was superb. I don't normally order lamb chops out but I decided to give in an go for it since I love lamb. It was a large portion and delicious. The dessert was three flavors of gelato. All in all, a great experience!
