Excellent food and service
Vice Versa is the perfect place for pre-theater dining or really any time. The food is superb, the staff is cordial and attentive without hovering. The setting is lovely, especially the back garden. It is sort of an oasis in crowded midtown. It is always my first choice but not always easy to get a reservation, esp on weekend evenings. It is pricey, but no more so than other places in the area.
Vice Versa is one of most favorite restaurants. No matter the reason for dining (special occasion, date, friends gathering), I always feel welcome, the service amazing and the food incredible. Believe me, you will not be disappointed!
Over priced expensive food, which was cooked to a very poor standard I could have cooked better myself.
If you have money to through away then this maybe the place for you.
If your looking for a good pizza, forget it.
Excellent service , good menu ,good food= we always eat here pre=theater (Studio 54) etc.
This was one of the best meals we have ever had in restaurant dinning!. All choices were terrific. We sat at the bar to take advantage of their Happy Hour, but they let us take the drinks to a regular table for the rest of our dinner. Terrific service, but again THE FOOD!!! Magnificient.
We arrived at 5 pm on a Tuesday before a 7 pm theater start. We weren't sure how busy they would be or how quickly we would get through dinner. But we had an enjoyable and nicely paced, 3-course dinner. Their fresh pastas were great. I had their cacio e pepe and garganelli, and their desserts - panna cotta and almond tart - were equally delicious. Their cocktails were also excellent. We will definitely go back and eat on their outdoor patio next time.
Great place in the theater district. Quiet, excellent food and service. What a nice surprise! Highly recommend.
ViceVersa is one of my favorite NYC restaurants and has been for many years. The food is excellent , the wait staff is great and the ambience is lovely and soothing. It's by far and away the best place to dine before or after a Broadway show.
Vice Versa is always consistently excellent. From the moment you walk inside and greeted from very warm people through to dessert which are always amazing.
The food is excellent. I’ve had many of the items on the menu. Everything is so good that I sometimes have trouble choosing.
I strongly recommend going there.
Consistently great food and service. Elegant atmosphere
Whenever I travel to New York I plan dinner at ViceVersa. On this trip we had Easter Brunch which was delightful. I suggest you allow additional time for dining because the service is slow paced allowing time to savor each course as well as wine. We took advantage of the brunch unending mimosa, bellini or bloodymary for 2 hours and $14.00 per person. The antipasta: sautéed dandelion with poached crispy egg and toasted pistachios was terrific; the spinach lasagna, three meat ragu, béchamel and parmigiana reggiano was the best lasagna we have ever eaten. For Dolci try the Sicilian Cassata with Ricotta Candied Citrus and Chocolate. We had the best Easter Brunch, ever, at ViceVersa.
Amazing wine expert! Thank you Matteo!
Great food and great service. We came before theatre and our waiter was very mindful... attentive and prompt yet not rushed. Very nice, a favorite, will return!
We have been coming to Vice Versa for many years. Whenever we come to NYC( once or twice a year),we have dinner there before or after the theater. It has consistently been a wonderful dining experience.
One of the best options for pre-theater dining. Creative Ital food; nice wine list. High noise level is only drawback.
Fantastic service pre-theater and a great overall experience, but the spaghetti Bolognese and vegetables were both way too salty
Always a pleasant evening. Staff is welcoming the minute you walk through the door. Great bar and attentive wait staff. A definitive “go to” favorite. 👍🏽
I think that is a very good option for every occasion, the food is amazing and the service excellent from the hostess to the bass boy
Delicious food, attentive and friendly staff, quiet place. Had a great time!
Four of us went in to the City to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. 3 of the 4 had lived and/or worked in NYC for many years and are very familiar with outstanding restaurants. That said, my wife said this was the best meal she ever had (salmon). Our friends both had the short ribs and said it was the best short ribs they ever had. I had the pumpkin ravioli--amazing! Our waiter was phenomenal. I can't wait to go back.
Always pleasant. Great food attractively prepared.
Excellent experience, elegant ambiance the food is great
I love that this restaurant has a very inventive and generous menu, especially for Restaurant Week which can sometimes be disappointing at other restaurants. I had the Colechino (braised lentils with Italian sausage) to start---very tasty. The chef/owner's signature dish, Casoncelli, was a little disappointing as the main course. Veal, raisin and amaretto cookies wrapped in dough pockets with fried pancetta, sage, and butter was rich. Rich is not a negative for me, but the pancetta was fried to a hard crisp and the whole thing was sitting in too much oil. To be fair, my friend didn't think hers was overdone. I had Italian cheesecake for dessert which was light and enhanced by the strawberry coulis. I will give this place another try because I think they have original dishes and the staff was lovely.
food was good but not exceptional. menu lacks variety imho-not talking about number of dishes but about varieties of ingredients and featured items. friendly service but felt bit rushed by wait staffs.
I have been going here since it opened about 19 years ago, still excell in everything.
Food is top notch, especially the pasta, and seafood....Pastery chef also surprises.
Franco is super, and always greets me with a smile and hug....
What a home....
Do no miss this place, near the theaters if that is your occasion. But just good anytime.
I was disappointed this time. The waiter was annoying - constantly interrupting us to "up-sell". That certainly wasn't the experience last time. Then the food (main course pasta) was buried in way-too-much sauce. I hope the next visit will be better.
We went there during the NYC restaurant week and ordered from the dinner menu. I cannot put in words how disappointed we were. In my review I will focus on the food, but clearly a nicer overall service should be the standard for a restaurant like this (no questions about how the food was or if we needed salt/olive oil/vinegar).
The soup had absolutely no seasoning and tasted like straight out of a can...pasta in soup was nowhere near aldente. Then I had the salmon as main course and it got worse. It was a freshly defrosted salmon, as watery as it tasted. Again no seasoning and the whole thing just consisted of a lot of water. Mashed potatoes were also not made with milk, water again and no clue if the kitchen had run out of salt that day. The spinach with garlic would have been good, if the garlic would not have been burnt. Dessert was OK but no italian speciality, more like a smooth applepie with chunks and raisins.
The offered amount of wines is pretty decent and my Barbarescu was good like expected.
In conclusion, it was a very disappointing evening at a restaurant which scores so many good ratings on a lot of webpages. I even would not describe myself as picky, or I don‘t know if it was just the because of the restaurant week menu and dinner, but it was not worth the price nor the excitement. I still would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to eat authentically italian. Go to LittleItaly and you will find bettet ambiente/service and foremost better food for clearly better value.
Our first visit. Lovely decor, very comfortable and roomy seating, great service and outstanding food. To quote Arnold, "I'll be back".
We loved this place! A great selection of modern Italian dishes and good service. We'll definitely go back.
Did not get the explanation asked for on pricing. desert did not meet expectation
We chose Vice Versa when it popped up as a "Restaurant Week" special, pre matinee luncheon. We were not disappointed.
The service was impeccable, as were our appetizer, entree and dessert choices for $29 pp. Everything that was brought to the table was a full portion and beautifully prepared. Our waitstaff was professional, knowledgeable and pleased to offer assistance. We also chose the 1/2 carafe wines specials, one red and one white, and each of us was pleased with two full goblets, more than we expected. With wine, tax and gratuity, our luncheon tab did escalate closer to $60 pp. a bit high for lunch, but the quality, quantity and service were impeccable and we were so full, neither of us ate dinner! Would definitely recommend!
We had a great dinner. The food had great flavor. Full bar with excellent service.
This restaurant is amazing, excellent food and service!
Excellent. The staff and owners are personable, attentive individuals. This is one of our favorite places to go.
A wonderful place to enjoy friends. The food is delicious and the warm welcome is very special.
Vice Versa is a find. Somehow places that offer food prepared with skill, quality ingredients and care can fly below the NYC hype and fail to get the recognition they deserve. This is a very nice choice for a meal where you want to have a leisurely conversation (and hear each other with ease), and savor your meal. The duck pasta was especially good.
We chose this restaurant based on great reviews on yelp and we thought it didn’t quite live up to the high praise. Not bad but not great. The pasta dishes were good but salad was meh and service was mixed. Waiter was very sweet but helping staff had to be asked multiple times for fresh ground pepper and fresh grated cheese (and olive oil, which was not brought to the table with bread). Decorating out on the patio (view from our table) had obnoxious flashing Christmas decorations and music was loud jazz version of Beatles tunes and “lets get physical”. Ugh.
This is one of the best restaurants in the theater district. The food and the service are consistently very good and you never feel rushed if you are attending a show following dinner.
We have eaten here many times and will continue to recommend this special restaurant.
It can be challenging to find a good restaurant in the theater district. We had a very good dining experience at ViceVersa. Food was very good. We had an assortment of salads, pasta, fish. Thought the wines served by the glass were excellent where generally I find them disappointing. Also, notable were the desserts!!! Yum. We also liked the service, ambiance and convenient location.
